Carbon fiber spar flaring props for Limited Pennyplane

3 ай бұрынHere I experiment with LPP props with carbon fiber spars, introduced years back by Bill Gowen, in order to get some sorely needed flare for low-ceiling flying. I end up concluding that a single .020" spar works very well for low ceiling flying!
NOTE: around 8 minutes on I say that I soaked the spars with CA (ouch!) to remove them, but what I meant to say is that I soaked the spars with acetone, sorry about that, don't use CA!

A very interesting video. For those model classes where carbon is not allowed I wonder what is the cross section of a bass wood spar with the same torsional stiffness as a 0.020" carbon rod? Would you be kind enough to share the radial dimensions (ie length) of the carbon rod - radius to end of balsa hub, radius of the inner end of prop blade, radius of outer end of carbon rod? And if I read the rules correctly then F1L props would need an equivalent balsa spar.... but if a required stiffness can be established by test at home then it should save some valuable flight test time.

Can you share some ideas on how to carve a prop block with a specific P/D ratio and how you mount the blades at a specific angle to the spar?

For such a long motor, .4 is a very low torque. I use .085" rubber with a 16.5" loop in cat 1 and I can get over 8 min
