This is the craziest drag race we have done. A windowless McLaren Elva (just 149 units globally!) takes on a KTM X-Bow with NOS and a Golf R engine. The winner then takes on the affordable supercar - the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N to see which is fastest!

Today's Hyundai and KIA feel like Japanese car companies from the 80s. At the time, Japanese brands had a cheap image, but they had created legendary supercars such as GT-R, Supra, and NSX by the 90s. So they were able to have fanbase comparable to European brands. I hope that these Korean brands will make supercars like the Japanese brands (with the N Vision 74 design) and change their brand image by the 2030s and have enthusiastic fanbase.

Hyundais have been market leads for at least 6-7 years now. They’re amazing. Same with KIA. They make the likes of Toyotas, Fords, Nissans etc feel like they’re a decade behind

Not really. Numbers have corrupted our judgment. I'll still take a 500hp GT3 over an EV because 500hp is still mad fast and the sound experience and power delivery is characterful. EVs are all the same and though good for city darting and all that, it does get boring.

Lights out no. Not in racing. Just because a battery powered real life ev car is quick and reliable doesn’t mean they beat everything. You can’t mod them you’re stuck waiting for a software update to over clock the motors or a tune and that’s if you even can. An ice vehicle you can modify to 2000 plus whp if desired and beyond from store bought cars today and they remain lighter. All they did was make regular traffic faster. Bet it doesn’t even run 9 second quarter mile.

So….if you ran the Ioniq 5 up against a real streetcar with a real 1800hp….something like the drag challenge 7 second 1/4 winner…GMPWR Torana. The Ioniq 5 would be beaten by almost half the track. And ….anyone that is truly into cars , knows that it’s about the sound of the engine aswell. And…you are definitely not a car guy if you just wrote off ICE’s.

If the Ioniq 5n reachs at 50% achievement rate of the modern n-series project, I think the 6n will reach 75%, and the N74 that will be sold for a limited time from 2026 will reach 100%

Paul, next time test these supercars vs superbike. Just like what Matt Watson (CARWOW) did when he drag raced Rimac vs Motogp. World SBK bike like the Ducati of Alvaro Bautista vs McLaren, Ferrari etc. Yeah you complained about not being able to breathe, Imagine Brad Binder hit 366 km/h on his KTM motogp bike before having to brake.😀

This Yank is here because the algorithm knows I'm having an affair with the N at the moment but that Elva has my attention. With air drag increasing from the square of velocity there's a major advantage in that tiny hole in the atmosphere vs the large brick of an '80's retro Hyundai Hot Hatch. (Also thanks for adding to my Aussie drag-racing vocabulary with bee anatomy references to make prudish Americans blush.)
