I'm a big fan of the Audi mmi system and have been using it for 3 years but after using the I drive on the new bmws I have to say, they are better than other systems, not by far but for usability and access I think they beat all the rest

BMW started using IDrive a long time ago and kept improving it all the time and now they got the best system of any car on the market. Even their head up display (HUD) is the best on the market.

the sound system you tested was the harman/kardon one which is obviously going to sound good. Should have tried the base sound system as that is what almost everyone is going to get on their cars

Carbuyer, you forgot to text the lexus. Lexus claims to have the largest in-car screen on the market, would be nice to see if it is any good

I have an iDrive system in my 2016 1 series and can confirm that the Sat-Nav is beyond useless!!! Although it supposedly has traffic updates, it just doesn't understand them. If you run it side by side with Google maps they end up going completely different routes (usually with the BMW system directing you straight for the nearest traffic jam). If you're after a good sat-nav, forget iDrive and stick with Google Maps

Please add media section. You can test if the system is showing correct music tag with cover image when connected to iPod or Bluetooth device. Also, whether buttons on steering wheel to navigate songs works under the same scenario. Last but not least, some infotainment system only supports English characters in music tag, some Asian languages cannot be shown as song name, and etc.

This comparison is not fair since you are comparing different levels of cars, Mercedes offers the writting letters feature but you did not test that system.

I do understand that the BMW system is really good, and I don't want to complain about it. But why did you give it 4/5 for the price/value ratio? The price/value ratio is being calculated at the end already, so 4 stars is way too much if it's just about the cost!

Really like iDrive! Really advanced and lots of options. Downside to that is that it seems crowded and has quite a lot of submenu's. That is really a shame because other than that I think visually it's really good and it's got a lot of potential. I however prefer audi's mmi because it's more simplistic (the 3g version being the best imo). Either way these 2 are by far the best leaving command and touch screen in the dust imo.

BMW has start putting this new touchscreen feature on their iDrive so to make it more easier to use and this debuted on the latest 7-Series.

SEVEN series? How many people have the means to buy a 7Series? Mazda provides both touch screen AND wheel on ALL models

BMW called its luxury car the 7-Series because it's the high-end executive car in the range.

The single console controller with central mounted screen (which practically every car maker uses nowadays) was definitely pioneered by BMW on the E65.

From 3.57 of the video, the presenter says that the iDrive system has got Speed Camera Alerts. Is this only in the newer models (The one that is been reviewed is a 2015)? Can it be installed on a 2013 3 Series?

i have got a brand new 2017 bmw x1 and doesn't come with a speed camera alert so i dunno what the presenter is on about

You can purchase the FSC Code for about $28 on ebay and have maps for life

Kinda have to disagree with some of the others and reviewers... I own a BMW with the exact system... It's still the best out of the 3 german giants, but not "that great" connectivity is probably the one I least agree with... It's umm useless and slow. I pay for the package only for live traffic lol But at the end of the day, I think looking back in 5-10 years time, this system is still very simple to use and won't be dated as quickly as the merc system (dated already when new) or the audi system.

I am happy with my iPhone 6s Plus at least every company don't charge ...i have another phone which is android ,Samsung galaxy s6 edge plus ..which will allow me to use only 1 system in all all car which is android auto and google map is the best and no head ache to learn like command et
