The Volkswagen Passat has always been a favourite among long distance drivers - its fantastic ability to eat up long motorway journeys is almost unrivalled- the new version is no different. The suspension is soft enough to soak up rough road surfaces while the cabin gets lots of sound-deadening insulation. This means engine and road noise are almost unnoticable at cruising speed - something that helps the miles fly by!

The adjustment in the driving position is superb - and the main reason I drive a Passat (I'm 6'6").

@MatWatsonCarbuyer Thanks man, it helped a lot. I thought that was the top version. It's just that sometimes I see the brands sell different cars with same names, in different countries. I saw the one shown at the Detroit motor show, which was just like the one you presented, and assumed VW as selling a different car as the Passat (an upscale version of the Jetta) in the American market, since Americans like different cars from the Europeans. So I got a little confused when I saw that in the UK.

Bought this car 2 months ago an loving it. Great car everything works well and easy to use. great fuel economy and plenty of poke from the 2.0 tdi

my dad wants to buy a 2013 Passat with the 1.8 tsi and wood trim interior (only version available here in Peru). We test drove it a couple of days ago and it is a lovely car, amazing quality interior and the accelerator has an amazing response. Other options are the new Subaru Legacy 2.5 and a 2012 Toyota Camry V6.

Knowing Volkswagen, I'm sure the system is only active when the car isn't in traffic - for instance only when the ignition is off. :) They don't just "tack" features on their cars, they actually make sure they work properly - that's the great thing about a Volkswagen versus other cars that might have more equipment at a lower cost, but often I find it doesn't work as well. :)

The MK.1 (1973-1980) Passat came as a hatchback! So there was a hatchback in the Passat 'life.'

The boot opens automatically ok but following this logic everyone can open the boot should the car be opened by the key if you want to open the bood automatically?

Interesting... He says it's a boring car. In the US, however, it won a contest of mid-size sedans for being the most fun! I REALLY don't want to know more about Passats competitors in the US, then... if I well recall, they were Ford Fusion, GM Malibu, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

@britishcarfan No! Firstly it will auto-lock after 30secs or so if you forget to. Secondly, it has a smart key which must be detected to open to trunk. So you'd gotta be already standing right there with the key in your pocket when your cat passes for it to open.

Why is it different from the one shown at VW website? I've saw a few first releases and the car looked different, with LED on the front and back lights, for example. the interior seems a little different too. This one looks more like the jetta.

its Volvic and its a french water named after a place in france called Volvic, just like Evian for example and i dont know what is your nationality but im pretty sure there is some evian or volvic sold there considering they are the most imported worldwide

That automatic boot release.. what if you're in traffic and someone or something happens to trigger that boot release.. you're going to have to get out and close it.. I can imagine that system being a pain

@britishcarfan Is there a possibility that the passat engineers dont think this situation? If a car feels that driver is fall asleep while driving. That car also can feel there is a cat under the bumper, not a humanbeing

boot release to the ignition? so if the ignition is off, then it will open?? What if the car is parked then and something trips the boot open.. All honesty now.. im sure it only opens the boot if it senses the smart-key fob in the user's pocket..

Keep in mind people, the European Passat isn't the same as the Americanize version. Sure looks wise but like he said its really the last version but just "updated." The American Passat from my understanding is a new platform and of course cheapen' out. :(

vauxhall insignia may look good on the inside but fit isn't good down wards ans plastics are also hard. Overall it is a bit better than the passat though and doesn't bore you...

I own a 2007 model Passat. It's a diesel 170, goes like the proverbial brown stuff off (not off of) a shovel. I bought it because it was a reliable VW and it looked good. The new one no longer looks good and it's made in America. The new model now fails on both criteria.
