Randy shares the story of the most recent arrival at The Lab...is it the most incredible one yet? Probably not...but enjoy the ride anyway. Every car has a story!

The Jack Telnack jelly bean. Kind of a revolutionary design as it started the transition from the "folded paper school" of the '80s to the soft organic shapes. I drove one for 10 months that was a vehicle that was leased for me to use in Michigan by an EV start up. It was a 4 cylinder car and I beat it like a rented mule- because it was. But it got me through a snowy winter and never gave me trouble.

Randy, your description of the Taurus is pretty accurate. I’ve had 7 of them including the Sable sister. Mine ranged from a 1987 MT5 (manual transmission 5 speed) to an 04 loaded Duratech. They were reliable, comfortable, and adequately appointed and powered, especially if you had the 24V Duratech. I’m 6’ and that car fit me extremely well. Everything was in the right place. It was ergonomically satisfying. The MT5 was a very rare offering with a 2.5 4 banger and a manual. It was kind of fun. The original Taurus was a groundbreaking design compared to other offerings in 1985. That platform ended in 2005. The next one was a rebadged Ford 500, which was on a shared platform with Volvo, I believe. To me, it wasn’t a Taurus. Thanks for the trip back in time!

When I saw the silhouette at the beginning I was thinking it might be a 67 Shelby😢!

It’s the anti-Shelby really… 😂

I owned the same exact car, same color, same interior. It was my wife's car, but took it over when she bought a new one, A '99 Taurus. I drove it as a second car/winter rat to save my new truck. Was a great car! Super comfortable, reliable, good on gas. I would consider your if it wasn't 3000 miles away! Every Taurus made in the northeast has rusted away....

You know, I am a gearhead for nearly sixty years now. And I love my collection of classic vehicles. But for many years I drive the most boring dinged up and scratched vehicles as daily drivers. I use maily stations though. Nearly every penny I spend on cars go to my old classics. As daily beaters I bought mainly the stuff that no one wanted. But lately it is not possible anymore to find something solid, inspected and drivable for less than a thousand $ anymore. Since the COVID hysteria all car prices seem to have doubled or tripled. We have extremely strict government inspections on cars in Switzerland, so I have to dump my daily beaters within one to three years. So this Taurus is quite the kind of junk I drive as a daily.

I can't believe you let the dogs ride in this car, it's such a valuable classic! Are you going to clean it up, fix the headliner and send it down the road? btw, the Packard looks great next to the '32!

On a UK road that would be cool, especially intact and unmodified. It epitomises 1980/90s US autos found on any US highway in-period. Social history.

If you think that's boring, try an '80s Lumina.

Oh definitely some GM mundane machinery out there. My father’s Chevy Citation company car was one I spent a little time in. 🥱

An 18 minute video on a Ford Taurus? Must be a pretty darn good friend Randy. 😉

Conan O’Brien has a 92 or 93 SHO model still that he bought new

That doesn’t surprise me somehow… the car suits him.

I dig your enthusiasm for that car, tho' it seems like something you'd find behind the wrong door on Let's Make a Deal. 😀

Randy I was in my 20s in the 90s and believe it or not a lot of younger guys wanted a SHO you and I know in reality they only wanted it because they couldn’t afford the 5.0 in the LX body or GT not necessary afford it pay insurance on it
@michaeladamo62793 ай бұрын
I remember driving them as loaners and stuff they were half decent cars. At a reasonable price and like I said the SHO five speed really wasn’t that much of a joke. It was a pretty fast car for 90s vantage. they tore up 305 iRock and Z 28s. just a little different insight I show you I’m not a fan of the car either

Well, I think 1,5 million units built does not sound so amazing for me. I own a 1963 Chevrolet Belair and a 63 Impala. At that time Chevrolet was the number one manufacterer of automobiles world wide. In 1963 alone Chevrolet produced more than 1.5 million cars on the fullsize chassis: Biscaynes, Belairs and Impalas in different body styles. When I travelled the USA eight years ago in my super reliable 4d Impala I did not see another 63 fullsize Chevy in 7 States and driving close to ten thousand miles through the Western half of the USA. And the car caused quite some attention. One thing is certain: The 63 Chevies were very stylish cars. They say one of the chief designers at Chevrolet used to work for Cadillac before that. The 63 Chevies really show a similarity to Caddies. And they are very visible and far from boring.

If you had an SHO then this video would be worth it . Sorry man ..

Oh I agree…the car is nothing special. Even the SHO to me would be “blah”, but I thought I would have some fun with it anyway.
