Anyone complaining about the 4Runner should just get the mommy mobile Highlander and stop whining. The 4Runner is not for you. Now for those of us who remember what a true SUV use to be and can actually live with out gimmicks that will just jack the price up, then this is the vehicle you want.

The so called old school vibe that the 4 Runner has is actually what's keeping them on the map. Don't know about your area but I see tons of them on the road in mine. Once this thing gets its next redesign, watch out! Hope you guys have a great Father's Day weekend!

One of the best vehicles ever made. sure it lacks some modern technology. but a redesign is coming in late 2021. this is one of the last of the body on frame trucks and its bulletproof. when a lot offers peers sold today will have be bitten the dust in 15 years this will be still rolling.

It's ashame that all suvs and crossovers have stopped hiding a rear wiper under a rear spoiler. Hiding it under a rear spoiler gives an SUV a clean natural look without a wiper sticking out like a sore thumb!!!!! I'm glad the 4runner has hid a rear wiper

@ryanfrisby73894 жыл бұрын
Howdy, great review as always guys! If they would offer tri zone climate, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and maybe a power folding third row to the Limited option list, this would be an awesome luxury car! I feel like putting a CVT or 8 Speed Auto would be a good idea as well to help with economy! That being said, for what it is, the 4Runner is still a great car. My great aunt and uncle have owned like 7 now and recently downsized to a 2020 RAV4 Plantinum to go along with the 2018 Camry XLE that they downsized there other 4Runner to back in 2017!😸😻😸

Thanks for a great video. Being a former 99 4Runner LTD 4WD , current 10 RAV4 LTD V6 with JBL system, I definitely miss driving the 4Runner. Overall, I like the current model. although , the exterior lighting , needs a total LED updating, low-high beams, fog, all turn signals and rear backup. The outside mirrors need an electric - foldable option . The tailgate operation needs an electronic open close feature. A real dual exhaust with be awesome I wish they would change some of their wheel options..personally don't like the Limited 19 in wheel look. I like more deep off road wheels ,but wished they came in a polished look too, not just blacked out. I dont like the inside door panels with ergonomically incorrect location of the electric window controls .. too high and should be lowered more into to same level as the arm rest . Maybe just the above items tweaks would by this current model 1 or 2 more years before a major refresh. One item I consider important when driving at highway speeds ie 60 mph Is highlighting the RPMs.similar to how you make note of the decibels Toyota is very good at tuning the engine RPMS low even with these older technology 5 speed transmissions..under 2000 rpms..at 60mph Which keeps engine noise down and fuel economy up. Unlike some competing models. Thanks again for great video representation

What are your thoughts on the Pedal commander and other similar Gas pedal sensitivity adjustments from 3rd parties? Does it affect it long term? Is it something that has no bearing on the warranty? Would you do it ?
@brittanyhigashi37752 жыл бұрын
The 3rd row is surprisingly large, given that it’s a large vehicle. It is NOT worse than the highlander! Even with the second row pushed all the way forward I couldn’t even fit to reach into the third row/trunk from the rear doors. My 13 year old could barely squeeze in the third row of the highlander, we couldn’t even put the second row back into position, he didn’t fit. He’s very tall for 13, but the third row in the highlander was a joke. He actually fit nicely in the 4Runners 3rd row and we could put the second row back in place.

Great review of sorely needed updates, but seems like it still falls short on features a vehicle at this price point should have. Perhaps it does not make a difference for their faithful buyers who want/need an old school SUV, but that is a shrinking market.

If adding Android Auto & Apple Carplay is the biggest change, then Toyota once again is relying on its reputation to sell cars & not on innovation. I'm not bashing Toyota (I own a Lexus & would buy another). But GM, Ford, Hyndia & Kia have drastically improved and continue to innovate. How much longer people will be satisfied with a large, old 4 ltr 6 banger and 5 gears in a ten year old package,...

The 4Runner is getting old though love the style it's a reliable SUV if anything engine will last 600,000 miles think 4Runners, Tacomas and Tundras last an lifetime. I like Toyota products interiors are boring but reliable under the hood if ever bought a 4Runner wouldn't worry about breakdowns this car would last 300,000 miles a rugged sport utility.

I'll never understand how Toyota has conned online reviewers (and apparently some passionate commenters) into thinking that being out of date is somehow charming. They'll always say things like "people who buy these don't care about that", but that's a self-fulfilling prophecy because anyone who cares will buy something else. I am currently shopping in this segment, and I do care about these things. And before you throw the obligatory "then go buy a minivan, they sold 300k of these last year and don't need you!" reply at me, consider that it's not just a little out of date, this 4runner generation started in 2009, 12 model years ago. Some features are definitely arguable, but Toyota has better engines, transmissions and feature sets available. And they know it, they bolted on whatever features they could to hold them over until their redesign is done because with bronco coming back and jeeps getting recent and future redesigns, they're falling behind and they know it. I don't expect to sway anyone because this is the Internet and I think name-calling is probably more likely, but one last thought. If you are the person they are talking about, who wants the reliability and doesn't care about features, then don't buy a new 2020 4runner, buy a used one even as old as 2009 because it's the same vehicle... make its old age work for you and save some money.
@RobS1232 жыл бұрын
You make some good points. The 4Runner we just bought COULD have been updated incrementally a lot more over the course of this generation. Auto climate control across all models, power fold mirrors, heated steering wheel, better sound system, a higher resolution backup camera and faster responding infotainment system, better mileage/more responsive engine. But it still offroads better than anything but a Jeep or new Bronco, but find it to be a comfortable Daily Driver as well. That dated engine and transmission are solid very reliable, and the 4Runner has a very high resale value, despite being outdated, compared to the competition. And, the rear window rolls down :-). There is also the styling factor that keeps folks who will NEVER take it off the pavement buy a 4Runner over a Highlander, or MDX, or other more luxurious SUV, which are really better cars than true SUVs.
