Kai would've gotten a heal trigger, thus healing one damage and giving his VG power, thus less cards he would need to guard. Koutei did a gamble and it had paid off.

If you look closely there were actually 3 crits stacked up. 2 were used by overlord as an offensive and the 3rd one as a defensive. Koutei would have been dead before he can even pull his combo for you to see for yourself the deck was stacked up this way: heal>overlord>crit>crit>crit>nehalem>crit use heal trigger as a damage check draw overlord attack with overlord (2crits) restand overlord, attack again and get extra crit Kai really just got lucky

@@LuniNightwindthat 20k shield woulda been a nehalem in his hand and he wouldnt had been able to guard daidragons attack. He did made a mistake by not giving the critical to hes vanguard. U always want to push for damage so give the crit if the attack lands.

That wouldn't have changed much. Kai still had a 5k intercept he could have used. With the trigger bonus, the heal, the intercept, and the opponent checking no triggers, Kai would have survived. Barely, but still survived. Edit: actually if Cosmo beak attacked first kai would have lost, but only if he attacked first.

@@albe0788 overlord has 33k power. Koutei guarded with 25k shield, bumping daiyusha to 38k. Intercepting with only one is pointless, it will still take only one trigger to pass. Intercept with 2 and he won't have enough to fend off the other attacks

what? he uses kagero, in season 1 then narukami in season 2/3 then LJ and kagero in season 3, plays royals and kagero in season 4. this is a reboot which follows the manga more closely, so yes kai uses kagero and not LJ

No it wasn't because if Koutei gave the critical to Daiyusha then Kai would have damage check would be Genjo and the Nehalem would have been in his hand

Luck is part of the skill, that’s the very basic of every card game. Although the heal trigger does play a very vital role in ensuring Kai not getting hit by Great Daiyusha attack, without it, all Kai has is his single pg and two crit trigger to guard.

@@p2pselfpuppet796 skill is something you yourself have. It is something you can improve an is directly controlled by you. Pulling triggers during this era was completely not under his control. It was literally the only thing that could've saved him here. Being lucky is not a skill cuz you can say little timmy in the park is the best player because of his constant crit sacking

@@WARUEL yes he can get him to 5 however, he is considering the damage triggers (like shown that Kai's supposed to be next damage will be heal) . If koutei commits to 5 damage with the information that there are still more damage triggers kai will have easier time to guard the last attack - meaning less cards that Kai will use for guarding On the other hand giving the crit to daidragon means Kai may guard it with a perfect guard since the next attack will hit for 2 damage and will cause him to lose. But since Kai didn't have a pg he is forced to guard with a 25k shield which is 2 less cards. Tldr: he puts the crit to daidragon to bait a perfect guard (if there is any) and reducing the chance of a damage trigger also reducing counterblast just like what Kai said

If koutei goes for 5 damage kai Kai may damage a heal trigger which also means 4 damage. Koutei considers that situation

V Reboot. Luard killed the orihinal continuity and this was made to be closer to manga (with addition of the imaginary gift mechanic just like Overdress added actual mechanics for persona ride).

Merc Black cardfight vanguard has a totally different story and strategy than yugioh and the story is all original.
