Today’s coral spotlight video is about Clove Polyps of the Genus Clavularia. Clove polyps can be a versatile addition to a number of different tanks. They could work in smaller aquariums looking for a coral to provide motion that is not particularly aggressive to neighbors nor will outgrow the tank in a month. On the other end of the spectrum, you could use the blue clove variety of this coral that runs rampant to create a beautiful blue background for your other corals. I could see this coral working for either beginners or experts in the hobby depending on what they are looking to accomplish. Can you come up with other ways that clove polyps can be used in a reef tank? Post your thoughts below.

Blue clove polyps are related to Xenias and they are scientifically Sansibia, not clavularia (the larger ones in the video). Clavularia clove polyps take a lot of time to grow, and you can create a garden with them and zoanthids in the bottom of the tank. I have them for some years, they are lovelly and does not cause issues. Clavularia: With too much flow, they dont look as pretty as they do in low flow areas (like flowers), also dont mix them with SPS, they are not aggressive, but they grow tall. Let us hope more varieties of clavularia reach the hobby. the reverse is true for Sansibia, it shouldnt be mixed with Zoanthids, as Sansibia are very fast growers.

I like to use Blue clove and Briareum to cover the back pane of the aqaurium. If you let both or more start to spread you get some pretty interesting patterns all over the back of the tank.

A lot of KSP music is actually royalty free music, the song in this video is called "Groove Grove" and wasn't made for KSP specifically. Some KSP songs must happen to show up in search results because I've heard a lot of the songs all over KZfaq

I have had great success growing this polyp with clean water. Good amount of flow. High light in a tank and regular feeding every 2 to 3 days with phytoplankton. Drifting the food right into the polyp. It'll grow faster than green star polyp. It grows like ivy. And can quickly get out of control in the right conditions.

Blue cloves 're one off my favorite they take over yes but easily moved back by any other coral they take up empty space but are none aggressive so zoa's, greenstars, a acropora or anything can stop them and push them back or they will create natural borders on their on beautiful coral takes up dead space gives movement, not picky about lighting or flow.

I have some clove polyps that have developed a good amount of hair algae over which in turn has caused them to be closed for a couple weeks. I’ve tried to get my cuc to help the situation but they’re just interested in the algae in between the polyps not the polyps themselves. Is this coral a goner already or is it salvageable?

My Clove's seem to like low flow and medium light. In higher flow they don't open up as much in my system and just don't look as beautiful. They also grow faster than most other coral in my tank besides GSP. Also, they have survived some nutrient and salinity swings I've had where my many of my other coral such as Torches and SPS corals did not.

I believe it is a Melanurus wrasse...I just lost mine to starvation. I have a very aggressive lime wrasse that would chase the Melanurus every time he came out to eat. Make sure you research what wrasses may not get along. Good luck!

It funny that you state these don’t propagate much. I went to my LFS last week and they had some frogs of these. Not for sale. A week later in the same tank there were about 6 NEW individual clusters growing all over the egg crate. So they are going to drag some so I can have them. I’ve had the green before but the rainbow variety is absolutely stunning
