Finding career options as an archaeology student can be challenging and in this video, I will share some ideas for where you can start! Archaeology majors are incredibly intelligent and passionate individuals who deserve more help and resources finding jobs than are currently available. During this video, I will list some archaeology job ideas as well as share a live job hunt for what kinds of archaeology careers are currently available in Los Angeles. Best of luck to you all and leave your requests down below!
Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am currently an undergraduate Anthropology student at UCLA on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

Research positions are few and far between. By far, the job market is dominated by CRM. Conservation is a different discipline than archaeology with its own training and career path.

@DestructeurDe It depends on the area and the company you work for. Places like California may pay more, but the cost of living may also be higher as well. Since I have more experience with the American Southwest, this is the region I'll be talking about. The cost of living is lower, and generally the pay as well. I've seen or heard the pay rate is between about $15 an hour to $22 an hour. I've heard that one company (which I'm not going to name) pays it's crew lead (the equivalent of a shift lead) with a year or two of experience about $18 an hour. I've only had one interview where they offered me a little over $18 an hour. The rest were $20 to $22 an hour starting off. On top of that and the typical benefits like health, PTO, stock options, we also generally get per diem. Which, depending on the project and if we're camping, can net you up to an additional $1800 a month. Remember, this is just the starting pay at the start of your career. About 5 to 10 years in (sometimes a tad bit sooner), you can become a project director if you have at least a master's degree. This job's salary is between $60,000 and $90,000 a year. I know these numbers are lower than some of the trades and STEM careers, but it's certainly doable and livable. I rent a nice apartment in the nice side of the city where I live. All of my bills are paid, I have a working vehicle in good condition and in the talks of buying another vehicle, I support two dogs and a cat, and I save up to $1000 a month.

There is way more options for Archaeologists. And old/historical buildings are not very much connected to archaeology, it differs if building needs further excavation, the people who do research and take care of old buildings are more Art Historians and etc…

Hi guys I have a question about dirt! When they unearth archaeological sites in the world it seems like it’s buried deep and they have to dig it out. Does that mean over long periods, the earth accumulates more dirt:earth/organic matter?? Could I assume over a long period my house would be underground? Hope I’m making sense
@somethingsomethingusername802
@somethingsomethingusername802 Жыл бұрын
In a way, yes. Wind, water (rain, floods), erosion, or dirt, dust, sand, etc. Some stuff was buried by natural disaster, others by demolition, expansion, and essentially building on top of what once was (see: Italy, France, England, much of the Americas, etc.). Some stuff was buried intentionally, others discarded and naturally buried with time. For example, open ditches. A perfect place to throw your rubbish. When the people moved, or the landscape changed due to say invasion, conquest, or simply an increase in population, the ditches either filled naturally or intentionally. Could you assume over a long period your house would be underground? With modern building practice I'd say it is fairly unlikely. Though in the case of an extinction level event, or societal collapse, sure, perhaps in a couple thousand years the debris and remnants of your past life may just be dug up.
