when it comes to plugin Hybrid, Byd is a no brainer. Batter and safer battery tech, way better interior finish and material, better technology and performance. Japanese cars are old school and dated in comparison. I am currently driving a Merc, but my next car will 95% certain be a Chinese, be that Byd, Zeekr or Polstar.

Toyota as usual are taking the piss. The old under powered engine in this new model is a joke. Add in a massive price rise - for basically nothing and they have completed their utter disregard for Australian consumers.

im in Zimbabwe, and i agree with you about the old under-powered engine. Overtaking is a struggle in that car, it lags so bad. At least they should have offered the V6 in the cruiser as an option, but i guess that would eat into the LC300 sales

@@daweigo6851 Same here in Saudi Arabia people will just buy it. Toyota will always disregard their customers in Saudi or Australia because they know people will line up to buy their cars. Unlike the US where Toyota will have to be more competitive and offer Americans more options.

When the initial fomo wears off for the new Prado, Toyota will have to drop their prices to get any volume out the door. This is already happening with the GR Corolla, where they are knocking 6k off RRP to move them because their competitors offer cheaper prices and better value. Don't be an early adopter. If we don't pay their prices they have to drop them to reasonable level.

Looks great BUT......Toyota Australia is doing to us what toyota US is doing to their customers. Their build costs are decreasing (I believe these are now being built in thailand) while they treat their potential customers with disdain by jacking up already high prices. Great example of profit before customers.

My current vehicle is lexus rx450 which is smooth to drive. when I make comparison with Byd sea lion the only higher review of my RX is the purchase price. And sealion wins all the rest of factors.

Despite marketing a tow capability and listing the weights in the driver's handbook, BYD says towing for the SL6 is not officially approved by the company for Australia yet. As a result, any attempt at this stage to have an aftermarket towbar fitted will void the warranty, despite BYD currently sending customers to aftermarket suppliers for Seal towbars. This seems ridiculous. Are BYD simply stalling so they can bring their own tow pack to market?

If there is no spare tyre on the rear door it must be going underneith, is that correct? I presume that means no extra sub tank with reduced range. The people I know that tow vans like the Prado because of the range with dual tanks. To them until they know the fuel QTY the new model holds no interest. One tank is not enough for outback Australia touring with a big van.

I think the Outlander PHEV's roomier interior, 7 seats and 10 year warranty does demand a justified price premium. (Can't ignore the made in Japan vs China debate either). However you cut it, it's just good to finally have some competition in this space for consumers and increased choice at different price points...

The current gen outlander just gives me "Japanese car tech from 2015" vibes. They havent kept up with modern interiors and from what I heard from owners, the MMAL dealership network is mediocre for customer support. I'd rather save $15k and take a chance on the new kid.

@@MetalPhreakAU yeah I can see that and i think they need to update the infotainment screen for sure on the outlander but other than that I still prefer the buttons to the ipad approach. the rest is pretty modern for both imo. I think BYD have missed a trick with their 6 year 150km warranty vs 10 year 200k on the outlander though. They should back their product in vs the comp as the newcomer.
