We loved the Skoda Octavia RS, but if you need something a little more sedate and easy going, the entry-level 2022 Skoda Octavia could be the best option. Paul Maric gets behind the wheel to see if it's any good.

I have the 2014 Octavia RS wagon DSG petrol. It's 7 years old now with about 120k on the clock. It's been completely reliable and can't really fault anything on it. Love the DSG, contrary to a lot of aussie reviewers. As nice as the new Octavia is, it's a not big enough leap ahead to make me trade up. Unless there was an electric one.

I have had my Octavia RS for 6 years and it's been pretty reliable as well. Only a few small niggles fixed under warranty. Biggest complaint would be dealers fixing these warranty issues, in some cases they were incompetent and I've had to return to get it fixed properly a second time, but this isn't brand specific. I had the same issue with other brands and how they fixed things.

No DSG issues but the Dual Mass Flywheel went on my 2016 Occy Scout. Probably using this as a market vehicle loaded up every week maybe put extra strain on it.

Thank you for your reviews. I have a 2013 Octavia RS Liftback which I bought at 8 months old and 7,000km. Now approaching 160,000km. Had some aircon fan issues at one stage, but overall a great 2.2ltr turbo diesel car with good acceleration, wonderful handling and fuel economy around 5.3 litres/100km. I also love the sedan shape in a liftback, so no chopped off tail that's so typical of most hatchbacks.

I recently sold my Skoda Octavia 2007 diesel wagon with the DSG 6 speed. I had it for 10 years and it provided me pretty much faultless motoring, with the only significant expense being a new aircon compressor for $1,000. It was still trucking along with over 256,000 kms on it and still averaging over 900 kms per tank (roughly 5.5 - 6 litres per 100km). I would certainly recommend a Skoda sedan or wagon; excellent value as everyone wants an SUV these days.

We have an oold Octavia TDI 1.9l - 2009 - automatic - 250000 km - not a ton of issues - needed to replace the ac compressor and the fuel tank. The argument for keeping it maybe for another year is really that it's swift & it's simply powerful. I had friends who bought 10y old octavias and what I witnessed is that they last well over 200k kilometers. It's simply a non-douchy practical work-horse.

A relative bought an Octavia about a decade ago. Looks almost identical (however with conventional boot). His model has 201hp (in the old imperial). Rode in it tonight and this vehicle was exceptionally quiet. This car also had impressive acceleration. His Octavia is still as tight as a drum and could have been bought last week. Hard to realise that Skoda is part of the VW Group. I normally steer clear of VW given their scandals and hold to Hyundai Kia. However. This is one sedan that I would actually seriously consider buying. [a very impressed consumer] and thanks Paul. Really enjoy your thorough and comprehensive, sensible reviews including Skoda's latest Octavia.

I've been driving 2017 octavia combi. Still had an analogue speedometer, they key didn't work half the time, software was clunky, wasn't the most responsive car. Felt like a budget car. Got my 2022 model last week, same low end options but it fixed all those issues. Software is great, drives responsive, ambient LEDs interior and snake blinkers are a nice touch. A very decent upgrade. It does feel a little more narrow though

I bought a 2026 Ambition. Loved it, until late last year 2022, 80,000 km). Started mistiming and engine light came on. Dealer reset it after some checking. Was great again until Jan this year 2023. This time they replaced a sensor and recalibrated the fuel injectors. Decided it was time to sell. After comparing with the Mazda 6 and CX5, I put a deposit down for another Octavia. The 2022/2023 tested here drove so much better and was way cheaper to own including finance. I also loved the tech. The 7 year warrant gave me comfort around any issues down track.

It comes with 1.0 tsi 110hp manual or dual clutch on its basic version and 1.5 tsi 150 hp as a more powerful option . 1.4 tsi which is located under the bonnet of this car is an old engine which by the way it is still mated with at new gen phev model.. in Europe..

That “Look, Safe to move?” Is the worst message on a reversing camera ever. I’ve said it before. Many won’t realise it’s a question and will assume (incorrectly) that the system is telling them it’s safe. When it might not be. Should never ask a question on the camera. A warning should be shown such as “please check surroundings” or similar.

It's interesting to see the different things that are available. My Skoda (in the UK) is a SEL First Edition and so of higher spec but it doesn't have a rear parking camera but does have blind spot warning light. Sat Nav is built in but not wireless mobile charger. I have electric adjustable driver seat, which I love. I couldn't quite see, but are there buttons above the centre air vents? The water bottle you used can't be std 500 ml size. We can fit ours in the middle holders easily and it is designed with bottle grips so that you can unscrew the lid with just one hand. The door bin is handy but we don't have that over here. Pity.

On my second Skoda Octavia Scout 2008 and now 2016 I’ve found them reliable although not that durable. I don’t think you’ll see too many 20 year old Skodas on the road in years to come. Aside from the tech becoming out dated, the major components will more than likely breakdown requiring expensive repairs. Something that will eventually condemn them to the scrap heap.

It's a bit smaller than the Camry, 6 and Sonata, though, isn't it? I would think that the Superb is a closer competitor to those three. I guess the Octavia occupies a segment where medium cars used to be, but now medium cars seem to have grown substantially. Two criticisms from me: I realise it's a base model, but having owned a car with power adjustable seats and steering wheel, going back to manual isn't something I could live with, I don't think. Also, the face level vents are placed too low and isn't even angled towards the driver. I like having air conditioning blowing directly into my face, and would much rather have the face level vents mounted where the screen is, and move the screen lower.

I thought the Superb not Octavia was supposed to be competing with the Toyota Camry... Or is this new one that much bigger than before?
@rickb314
@rickb314 2 жыл бұрын
Skoda cars seem to be that inbetween size, so while this Octavia is certainly a little bit bigger than the last gen it's not quite as big as a Camry, and yet the Superb is definitely larger still (especially rear seat legroom and boot space)

If Skoda offered the wagon with higher suspension and a bit of cladding for not much more money they would sell out.

It’s a shame they gave you a boring solid (not even pearlescent) white car to review. This base model looks anything but - except the basic paintwork doesn’t do it justice. In the other colours, especially Lava Blue, it really highlights the design elements even at base trim.

Yeah,this is the car for who hates Crossovers..coz really, this has the same amount of room and cargo room as a sub compact/compact SUV...I would not have a SUV unless I need a third row...but wait!I could get an EClass wagon, which comes with a third row! I would only get an SUV if I need a serious off roader..

The Octavia doesn't compete with the Camry, Mazda 6 nor the sonata it competes with the Corrola, Mazda 3 and the Elantra. It does not compete with mid-size cars, it competes with compact-cars . The Mazda 6 , Camry and the Sonata all of those cars compete with the Superb in terms of size.
