Hi Everyone!
I wanted to share with all of you that grandma recently passed. She and my late grandfather were the inspiration for this channel and I am so grateful that I got to video them throughout the last 5-10 years of their lives. They are both such an inspiration and have woven our family bonds together so tightly throughout the years.
Please enjoy a little bit of our candid and fun Christmas Eve dinner as well as a tribute to grandma that I actually put together for her funeral service. I know many of you felt that you knew her as well, so I thought it would be appropriate to share. (Also, if you're reading this... I'm assuming you're a fan of my grandparents. haha)
Anyway, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your family...happy 2024! Let's all make this the best year yet.

Makizushi Recipe:

Sushi Rice:
5 C. rice amzn.to/3RLb4kD
1/3 C. Japanese vinegar amzn.to/48lBfVR
5 T. sugar
*1 1/2 t. salt
Tamagoyaki:
4 eggs
1/2 t. sugar
2 T. milk
*1/4 t. salt
Tuna:
2 T. shoyu amzn.to/48zYVWc
2 T. sugar
a little water
2-3 cans of tuna (color of the tuna needs to be dark)
Kanpyo: amzn.to/41J9GUa
Put into a pot/pan with 1 to 1 ratios of water, shoyu, and sugar
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shoyu
cook until the kanpyo becomes translucent
Uncle Warren's Spare Rib Recipe:
Juice of 1 lemon
1 bottle chili sauce amzn.to/47CkJ2V
1 c. brown sugar
Score ribs and peel off fat off of the back of the ribs.
Baste in sauce on one side.
Put into the oven for 45 minutes. Turn over and baste the other side of ribs. Put back into the oven for 45 min. Oven should be at 335 degrees.

Reminiscing about the days when Grandparents were cooking together and daily life and their trips to Las Vegas and watching them planting and harvesting their garden and sharing their stories together you have captured thru the lens that you have created and shared with us all! This is the most precious video I ever seen. Gramma had so much love of life to the end. I teared up watching this memorable video. Grammar came a long way as well as grammar. Both of which did a very very great job in raising a beautiful family bond. Traditional love is the best thing in life the bond is still there when they past. Don't know if I expressed our deepest condolences to the Tamamoto family on Grandma's passing. I really enjoyed her cutting my hair once a month for my weekend duty in the Hawaii Army National Guard. I’m sure my hekka wasn’t as tasty as your grandpa’s but it was good! Deepest condolences to your family on the passing of your grandmother. Thank you for sharing your family's story with all of us. Stumbled on your channel looking for a pork tofu recipe and I have enjoyed watching many of your videos, especially the ones with your grandparents. Especially enjoy all of the local Hawaiian-Japanese style recipes. Tip that my own Nisei grandmother taught me about making kampyo: First rinse the kampyo well and then sprinkle it generously with salt, massaging the salt into it. Let stand for a few minutes and "momu" (squeeze) the kampyo and rinse well. This is an important step that allows it to soften when cooked. The first time I made kampyo myself it was not softening even after boiling as shown in your video.

So sad to hear of you Grandmother's passing. I'm Uchinanchu from Waipahu, but now live in Utah. It's so nice to see your recipes and especially I enjoy watching your family interactions. It reminds me of Hawaii and my family everytime I see you guys! I remember my Mother used to make Maki rolls like you guys did in this video, but she would make just the tuna for me (my favorite). So very sorry for your loss. Your grandmother cut my dad's hair for a long time and my brother's for awhile when she had her barbershop in Papaaloa. I remember going in there waiting for them to get done. Deepest condolences.
