Knowing how Scientologists roll, I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole thing is also a Scientology run operation. Even Braille skateboarding notably is employing several scientologists, it’s a community employment kind of deal. Wouldn’t be surprised if the whole thing with Cariuma, bryte, skategoat, berrics etc. aside from being a weird self congratulating ecosystem designed to create hype from nothing, if it’s also benefitting a network of Scientology folks behind the scenes as well. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if skate goat himself was a Scientologist. They’re like corporate religion.
@KQKQ233 жыл бұрын
To a similar point as well, Braille and revive (Braille more specifically) know exactly what they are, and they don’t try to hide it. Revive is marketed towards the KZfaq skate viewer/crowd who does not identify with core skate brands and core skate culture, and Braille specifically targets complete beginners who get into skating specifically from their videos/content. They are targeting untapped markets and they are transparent about that, and clearly it has worked. The problem I have with the berrics stuff is that they are creating an industry hype narrative from nothing and passing it off as sneakily as possible. They aren’t transparent about any of it, they probably don’t want you to even put together the fact that berrics bryte and cariuma are one ecosystem that acts in tandem.
@luisbarvalopez3 жыл бұрын
@@KQKQ23 Agree. But that how business works, thats how you sell things. If the "core" audience isn't the target and the "core" people know what to buy and not, they have other audiences to explore and profit.

I think the skateboarding industry, the traditional ecosystem, is equally to blame. Skateboarding has not been extremely conducive to young kids. Kids that want to learn to skate value brands that help them, like braille, and thats why the marketing works. You can't blame people that find new creative ways to do what they love for a living. I agree with the quality arguments. The art does suck. Also, this isn't the skateboarding that we grew up on, but traditional ecosystems create the gaps that new players can fill.

I feel like there’s something to be said that this is one of the first brands to heavily target younger demographics. The use of influencers and youtubers is something that every other skate brand has mainly stayed away from to keep their core reputations, but a newcomer like Cariuma doesn’t have to give a fuck. The Berrics started doing content online super super early and mainly aimed at an older, corer, more traditional skater audience. Despite their quick starts though, groups like Braille and revive have shot up past them. This is mainly through their use of more personality driven and kid friendly content. Both the berrics and Cariuma are trying to capture that audience, so it’s a perfect match up.

Flame boy? Wet willy? Not heavily targeted toward younger demographic

Doctor Worm gets it. It is not a new thing for skateboards to be marketed to kids AT ALL. The only difference here is the medium.

This is all super valid. Your investigative skills are unreal. I'm surprised you didn't mention the sustainable sourcing of cariuma's materials and their lack of sweatshop labour. I would super appreciate a video (or a link) for the skate shoe companies with transparent/ethical supply chains. Thanks

I thought I was just old and jaded thinking this. This guy, his sponsors and the Berrics are so gross. Do they see it?

I don’t think too deep about my shoe purchases. If they look good and skate good, that’s what matters to me. That being said, I never understood the hype around Cariuma. Not my style and overpriced IMO. Thanks for bringing this to light!
