Made the same mistake in my mis-spent youth. Trying to fit in with the wrong crowd....bla....bla...... Learned my lesson before it was too late. Life got better, after establishing my second group of "friends." It got even better than that, when I moved on to my current group. They're mostly my wife's friends. Only two of them are mine. I'd say all of the above, death in my family, cancer, love, heartbreak, lots of failed relationships, I just felt drifting through the wind and felt really lost in this world. At some point last year, I touched the bottom of the barrel and I started a journey to better myself. About one month ago, after another failed relationship, I just said "you know what, fk it, I'm gonna do me" and started lifting weights, cardio (I was kind of a skinny fat guy), reading to become financially literate, reading philosophy for the mind (what's a good healthy body if your mind isn't well itself eh?). I did an introspection and began to focus on my goals, stopped chasing women and trying to please them just because I wanted to feel loved, some people are justt meant to be alone until they reach their goals (and I think I'm one of them). Who's gonna love me if I don't even love myself? That's about it, in 2023, I'm doing me, I finally feel like I'm renewing with myself but I'm not done on my journey, it's only the beginning, I feel good mentally, I wake up grateful to be alive, I'm happy again, sure I'm not where I want to be but at the end of the day, I still got plenty in my life to be grateful about. But the most important thing I'm grateful about is that switch of mindset, after listening to all these stoics and reading a few self improvement books, I realized how important the mind is and I'm trying to have a different approach with life in general.

I think I was born a philosopher, always wondering how and why about everything.

If you connect the dots and think long term, majority of the world won't understand you, even the closest people to you, and while most of the time you will be right about a lot of things, it doesn't necessarely bring you any satisfaction because you end up alone. It is a very dark and lonely path.

I can only tell you from my experience, example; when I eat unhealthy I have depressive thoughts but when I eat healthy I have happy thoughts. If you ask yourself just in case I will tell you why do I eat unhealthy sometimes is because it is addictive and also many unhealthy foods taste great but later your body does not feel good. I eat healthy most of the time and I feel happy most of the time. In a healthy body there is a healthy mind and a healthy soul.

Indeed, life changing. I cannot recommend any book so much as Existential Kink. It goes deep into this and how basically every pattern or "stuck point" you have in your life stems from it, and how you can break the cycles you dislike.

I like the positivity way of thinking, but sometimes life just throws a few wrenches in your gears. Having said this, There’s a lot we can learn from suffering. In any case, hope you’re doing well.

A life not realized is not a life wasted. Speaking of "potential" assumes it is clear what that is and, by definition, one cannot know a potential until it is realized. So, whatever is realized in a life is that potential.

This one I think is another one not worded correctly. Success/potential to yourself, is completely different then worldly success/potential.

I'm baffled about this positivity thing. Positive and negative are two sides of the same coin IMHO, just can't see how you have one without the other. The best I ever want is solitude.

In fact, if you need positivity, it may mean you are a negativistic person. And if that is so, then this positivity thing merges with hope creating delusion, meaning it is not grounded in reality and will lead to further dissapointment that in turn breeds negativity and will create a vicious cycle.
