When the two World Champions clash against each other it is always a sight to behold. Especially Magnus Carlsen and Vishy Anand. The two of them have played two World Championship matches against each other and are fierce rivals. This game was played at the Lindores Abbey tournament in Scotland. Magnus Carlsen with the white pieces opens with 1.d4 and Vishy Anand plays the Nimzo-Indian. Who do you think will come out on top? Check it out!

For those who don’t know, Anand resigned. When he gave up his rook for the bishop, it was because he knew F4 was coming. Removing the only protection for his rook. His rook was trapped with nowhere to go. He figured he might as well get something for his rook before he lost it. Then he saw Magnus quadrupled up on the C5 pawn while also having his Queen in line with his king. Which means Anand would’ve most likely had to exchange queens when the dust settled after Magnus captured the C5 pawn. Down too much material. A master knows when to give up. Board is too open for Magnus to blunder back.

Sagar bhai can u please make a video on for the ones who will play chess tournament on board for the first time after the lockdown ends, many people who are begginers may not know the rules like one touch rule, how to offer draw, what if you make an invalid move, you have to press the clock with same hand you made the move etc.. Plz it will be really helpful so that they do not face any confusion during the tournament and just focus on there game

Well there was a little save for Anand if he places his queen at E6 then Magnus has to exchange queens and Anand will place the knight on the checkmate step then even though they exchange their pieces equal loss will be inquired But eventually Magnus will win because Anand will only have 1 bishop and I rook left while Magnus will still have 2 rooks major advantage

The 2D board view was a nice thoughtful addition... I thought Anand was leading given MC's timeclock was lesser than Anand's (That was my measure of who is going to win or lose :) LOL ) ... Surprised that Anand resigned... MC is truly awesome !!!

Usually not good to have the two rooks not connected to each other. Vishys one rook got trapped there when he played Ne5 & later C5 pawn fully weakened with quadruple attack forcing him to resign.

Carlsen was an exchange up (rook for a bishop) and Anand's pawns were extremely weak. Hence the resignation, I believe.

@@jc3858 There is no such thing as fight to the end when players of this calibre play.When there is a slight advantage(Carlsen has a rook for a knight) and Anand's pawn structure is weak and ready to collapse the advantage becomes huge for a player like Carlsen-Anand knew it was only a matter of time to face defeat and he didnt want to experience it so he chose to resign.His resignition was correct for grandmasters' level although it may look quite premature for weaker players !

@@jc3858 Anand could only come back if Magnus made a blunder. But, professional players only blunder when under extreme time pressure. The polite thing to do is to resign once the game is lost.

For those wondering why Anand resigned at 5:21, it's because he's already down the exchange (2 points) plus immediately about to lose either the a- or c- pawn (another point), then won't have enough pieces to defend the other one and the d pawn (two more points). White can simply exchange down the pieces then push the a- and b- pawns. An IM would easily win from that position let alone the world's top player. Hopeless.

At 4:23 Anand could have placed RB3, which will be supported by other Rook, even though Carlsen's queen threatens it. So, in next move, Anand can save his rook playing B5 or B7. Can anyone explain why he sacrificed rook rather than moving it to B3?
