Agree. Such height on elements. Her chest is always up on landings not barley making the flips as others often seem to do . I do like Komova as well but it’s a copycat of this and years later

Definitely one of my all time favorite beam routines. The only real deductions I saw were poor positioning in the sheep jump and she seemed to have a little trouble on her full turn.

While she's not very artistic, I have never seen another gymnast in the entire history of the sport who had that same floaty quality she has on beam

There were many gymnasts back in the "golden era" who were floatier. The Romanians seemed in particular to foster that quality. The first names to came to mind were Silivas, Comaneci, and Dobre.

@@fernlin-healy2174 I've seen basically every bit of publicly available gymnastics footage from 1928 to present. I'm referring to a very specific quality that Carly has, where she lands VERY lightly. Floaty probably isn't the right word. It's a special lightness. Sillivas, Comaneci, and Dobre were all amazing beam workers but did not have that cat-like "light" landing quality.

The dismount and standing arabian are amazing. I don't like her slow connections though (for example the front walkover to backflips). Also her split jump doesn't hit 180.

I love the RO to BHS to Patterson...great and unique combo dismount. I like it a little better than the Komova BHS BHS Patterson combo.

@@SG-mw1ey oh, definitely easier but I do just prefer the round off entry then the forward motion of the patterson. I do think the bhs bhs is more difficult but the round off has more risk of getting out of line.

in gymnastics, "cowboy" is when you separate your legs in order to complete the rotation of a salto - it's a leg separation deduction.

They had really amazing gymnasts back in 2004. What happened since then. None of the gymnasts today are even close to their consistent and difficulty. It doesn't make sense.

i agree with your words, however lots of them i don't think the judges were looking for at the time for example complete splits in the split leaps, cowboying tucks, and clean legs whilst twisting were ignored for a long time (which you probably already know)

squat on the standing arabian squat on the front tuck lack of rhythm with the connection of the front arial into the flic+layout pause on the front tuck connection to the sheep jump poor hip position in the sheep jump, not even creditable in my book everything else was great. she's fantastic but far from a 9.9

That started with the soviets and Romanians and their judges flat out cheating, that made the sport look more into the code and scoring elements higher so biased judging would not take precedence because “artistry” is subjective and varies from each judge’s taste but the codes and elements will always be the same and scored appropriately.
