Carly Simon had so many great hits in the 70's such as "Anticipation", "Haven't Got Time For The Pain", "Attitude Dancing", "You Belong To Me", "Coming Around Again", "You're So Vain", "Mockingbird" (a duet with James Taylor), "Nobody Does It Better" (from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me), "Jesse", "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be", "Legend In Your Own Time", "The Right Thing To Do", "(We Have) No Secrets" etc.

Ya Carly's a great singer with a lot of hits. But this is 1 of my Favorites by her,her vocals on this track...she put a lot of soul...man! Classic. 👍🏽

Co-written with Michael McDonald (ex Steely Dan and at the time was with The Doobie Brothers) in 1977 and featuring on the Doobie's 'Living on the Fault Line', this arrangement is more seductive with David Sanborn on Sax, Steve Gadd on Drums and Cornell Dupree on Guitar. Of course, James Taylor (Simon's husband at the time) provides backing vocals and the string section complements the song. Thank you for covering it Chod.

Both Carly and the Doobie Bros released their own versions of this at the same time. The song was co written by Carly and Michael McDonald of the Doobies.

One of my favorites! Her backing band is incredible! Steve Gadd on drums, Eric Gale on guitar, Richard Tee on keyboards, and David Sanborn on sax? Smokin'! This album is golden! The backing vocals are Carly and her ex-husband, James Taylor.

Her ‘Anticipation’ lp was so consistently surprising, varied and just plain good that I was hooked. And for this high school boy, the album sleeve photos were a knockout❤.

This isn't the first time you have reacted to her. You reacted to "You're So Vain" on Patreon, but you have her name as Cindy Simon. One of the songs she sings is for the James Bond movie *The Spy Who Loved Me* the song "Nobody Does it Better". There are many artists that you have reacted to that have songs in James Bond movie, such as, Adel, Nancy Sinatra, Chris Cornell, Paul McCartney. It is interesting to listen to the songs and see who was popular then and the different sound of music through the years.

Oh how I love this song! I love both her singing it and also the one where Michael McDonald sings it. Carly Simon is probably best known for her song "Your so Vain", but other than this song, my second fave is "Coming around again/Itsy bitsy spider"

The band on this recording is basically Stuff (and most of Paul Simon’s backing band in the 70s), a fabulous outfit.

One of the best and most prominent from the golden age of singer-songwriters. I agree with everyone else--"That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be." o incredibly mature and poignant that it's hard to believe it was a pop hit. (And from the BOYS IN THE TREES album, my favorite Carly song, "In a Small Moment"--a three-act play in three minutes.)

Carly is the daughter of the publishing magnate, Richard L. Simon, co-owner of the publishing company, Simon & Schuster. She was once married to James Taylor and had 2 children with him, a son and a daughter.

Lots of others have recommended That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be, and I totally agree. I'd like to add these: Mockingbird (the live version performed with her husband James Taylor), Haven't Got Time For The Pain, Attitude Dancing, In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning (she has recorded quite a few of the "standards), The Right Thing To Do, Legend In Your Own Time.

Carly, to me at the time this came out, was a lady. There were hard rocking women at the time; this was a lady. You say it’s adult music, not meant for immature teens. I think not, for as a young teen when she came out elevated her listeners, she was that good, strong, graceful. We appreciated her. Couldn’t get enough, even after listening to hard rock.

Her dad was half of Simon and Schuster one of the largest publishing companies! She was married to James Taylor. She hung out with Judy Belushi on Martha’s Vineyard while John Belushi and James Taylor were doing heroin. She is awesome!

Always loved this live performance with her husband JAMES TAYLOR. This such a happy song with them harmonizing, dancing and just having a great time. Hope there are no issues with copyrights. Hey Chod. Loved watching you groove to Carly. For years, I only owned Carly Simon's Greatest Hits album - which is awesome. But I decided to buy Boys In the Trees album, and wasn't disappointed. You Belong to Me - awesome. Boys In the Trees - great title track. De Bat (Fly in my face) is a funny tune. In a Small Moment - is a woman's tale of life. As far as other Carly Songs - you've probably heard Anticipation, You're So Vain or That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be. Her next album (after Boys) was Spy. Another album with loads of good tracks. Keep up the great work Chod. We love ya, Bro. Ken

I always wanted to sing like Carly & Linda Ronstadt especially when I was a teen. You should do yourself a favor and check out Lenny Welch, who she mentioned, singing this song. It’s more R&B & haunting. And I agree, That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be, should be next! Or, Anticipation…. You’ll make it to 100K!
