This LSO arrangement is my favorite version of CB by far and this segment especially captures the hurricane of passions you suffer when your life's happiness is ripped away unexpectedly.

I had the pleasure of singing this back in 2014 with the Missouri Southern Symphonic Chorus & Orchestra, conducted by Dr. David Sharlow. He didn't have the orchestra speed up the tempo like the orchestra is doing here, but it was still fun to sing. I walked away that day feeling that it was the greatest thing I ever did in my life...until we topped that in 2018 with Beethoven's 9th Symphony, and again this year in 2022, with Handel's Messiah.

The CB does not tell a story like this. It is a collection of medievil poetry and songs (in mostly latin and some middle high german). Carl Orff has set 24 pieces from this collection to music. This cantata generally describes the ups and downs of life, but does not tell a story per se.

In Classical Latin, the g is pronounced as in the French 'garçon'. The Latin that's usually used in music however is Church Latin, a Latin that has a simpler construction but also has different pronounciations. (More Italian sounds so to speak.) The g is then pronounced as in Giovanni. The harsher sounds in Classical Latin makes most people use Church Latin (Church Latin is easier to pronounce for those who speak English for example) and the Classic Latin tends to be forgotten which is a shame.

So is this and the first movement connected, besides talking about fate? I mean I kinda imagine a great kingdom falling to invaders in the first part and in this part I imagine the king of the fallen kingdom lamenting his situation in the underworld cursing the guy who lead the invasion.

Including the lyrics is a nice touch, but the words have to be displayed slightly in advance of the actual singing, otherwise you can't sing along (unless you know the words, in which case having the lyrics would be pointless anyway).
