Carnival Drops Another Loyalty Program Perk

Cruise news today: Carnival Cruise Line has removed the $100 charitable donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for its new Diamond level loyalty program guests. Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has confirmed orders for two new Viking Ocean ships to be delivered in 2028 and 2029. The Villa Vie Odyssey, the around-the-world cruise ship that costs up to half a million for a room, is still sitting at a shipyard in Belfast.

I call BS. They can’t keep track of a handful of donations for Diamond Members, but if ANYONE takes something from the minibar, it’s guaranteed to be on your bill.

Thank you for reporting Doug and happy Tuesday… Our granddaughter was diagnosed with leukemia at 29 months old… She is now almost 12 and a beautiful cancer survivor we are blessed and we thank Carnival for every single dollar that they have donated to Saint Jude🎗️

These loyalty programs all have the same fatal flaw: as more and more passengers reach higher levels, they become more expensive for the lines to sustain.

As more and more people reach the higher levels, Carnival obviously makes more and more money. Hire someone to manage this.

It is to expensive to give to the people that spend their money in your casino but you can give it away yes it goes to a great cause but you want the people to still spend their money

Cruise prices are off the chain and the perks of cruising are going down the drain it’s almost not worth it anymore.land based vacations are looking mighty good in my book …

How can it be hard to keep up with the donation? A person turns diamond once and the system could easily be set to automatically make the donation when that happens, just like they automatically give you your specialty dining certificate and other one time diamond gifts. Sounds like an excuse to me. That said, at least they are still giving in other ways

They can keep up with your money if something critical happens before your cruise and you forget to take out that little insurance policy. They keep All the money you paid. Don't even try to give you a dime or incentive for another cruise 😢. They just keep your money. They don't have any problem keeping up with that. They're becoming real petty

Morning Doug, Great update. Sounds like Carnival is going to pass the bucket around the ship to cover donations that the company was making. That’s up there with taking away chocolates in cabin to pay for Guys Burgers. Yeah okay. Embarrassing.

Apparently you have never been to the Groove for St Jude party. Carnival has been holding this fundraiser for as long as I can remember.

Carnival can keep track of how many alcoholic beverages you consume in a 24-hr period so I doubt it was "hard to keep track of it all". But status inflation is a real problem: by now, too many cruisers are Platinum.

If you want to donate to St Jude do it individually on your own. These big companies get your money and turn it in like they donated the money and getting the tax write-off for it.

I don’t see how it’s hard to keep track. I go on RC mostly and at every welcome back party they have a list of every gold , platinum etc….they even at times say how people are from Canada and other countries are on the ship. It’s a lame excuse. It sounds like now they can any amount they want without someone doing a double check.

Mornin' Doug! Another delay on the world-wide cruise. Shocking.... Rudder post AND refurbishments. AND now they're paying for their own accommodations and don't have a guess at a new sail date. That deal looks to be getting worse every week!

In the meantime, that world cruise being on hold, the company is able to invest all that money and make a killing in the stock market with the free money they have collected thus far.

Thanks Doug! This makes me wonder, perhaps loyalty members complained about St Jude's. 20 years ago, I donated $20 each to St. Jude's and two local foot-up charities. Although I've asked, to this day, two still send promotional paper mail, cards, address labels, etc. I stopped giving to pushy charities and now donate to cat rescues and Mercy ships 😁😁😻😻
