I'm a carpenter in UK been at it for 13 years, but can honestly say no way could I do that whole walking 6x or 4x plates. I'd probably get up there and be like bambi on ice and think fuck this. Hats off to you guys.

Cool POV cam. Framed our home single handedly last summer. You make it look so damn easy. Didn't stand up on the 2nd floor until the OSB was installed. Much respect!

The Go Pro just showed me how precarious it is working on the upper wall framing. I can see how one mis-step can send you to ground level very quickly.

Well strictly speaking he wouldn't got the ground as they are wearing fall arrest protection gear but it would still hurt. One lapse in concentration and your falling, it is very precarious but you do get used to it. 👍😃

Just use more braces. Its not difficult. You should have a top plate too. Very rarely can't fit with height. Yea, rubber grip hammer is trash.

Matt. If you drop that saw. Trust me. It will still work. Dropped my saw from 2 story's and it still cuts like butter. Also left my impact drill on a roof when it snowed. Knocked it down bumping under the roof with a stud n made it drop 2 story's down. Still works fine. DeWalt is just as good as the rest n maybe better

Hi Matt, all I kept thinking about while watching your video is that my boss is correct. I am in my 50's and he is got about 15+ years on me. Never and I mean NEVER used nail guns. We have had carpenters walk off when they find out that it's all hand nailing. He swears that dragging around the hoses, and the hassle of getting hung up is much worse on the body than hand nailing. Also, remember my last comment we still cut in 1x for bracing!

Cordless Nailers work just fine, but I have friends that still handnail everything and they build just fine. What's funny to me is a carpenter that can't hand drive.. There's tons of them out there!

@@MattBangsWood Ohhhhhhhhh yes, more than we'd like to think about. How about the carpenters who need a miter saw to cut straight? I've seen plenty of them. Or framers who use a speed square to mark complete lines and still can't cut it straight?

Hi. I have a theory about hand driving nails. It seems to me that the harder you grip the handle the less force tranfers to the head. A bit like a pool break off shot. Barely grip the cue and you'll destroy the rack. Any thoughts?

@@kierandoherty1600 Well, that's kind of what I do. I hold the hammer real lose as I am raising my arm, then when I start my downward descend and I am starting to pivot my wrist I tighten my grip while at the same time letting the wight of the hammer do the hard work. I have never hurt my elbows, shoulder or wrist with this swing. Moving wet lumber always gets me though.

1,2 1,2 1,2 set it and drive it. First day test - 10 penny finish nail set in 3 or less whacks with a hammer. The old guys would do it in 1 whack. Hold the nail with the thumb and forefinger and drive it home and not a scrtch and set level with the surface. No Hammer marks!

Hey Matt you showed how you adjusted layout for plumbing toilet. On recap mention also how everything stacks. Studs to Joists for hvac returns and runs. Also top plate nails over studs for clear path for electrical. All subs can THANK A FRAMER. Or thank a good framer anyways. 👊

Reminds me of when I was young. I could handle wall walking only to about 30ft. Then I would get nervous. The body cam is great.

I’m sure you’ve answered this before, but, have you ever considered going to cordless framing nailers? Maybe at least when you’re working up high to not have to deal with getting your hose caught constantly. Great footage! I enjoy your explanations of code and building design.

Is there a reason not to add a piece of osb/plywood on top of joists & top-plates where you're needing to walk frequently? Like where you're lifting the joists up, rather than balancing on just the 2x4s, you could have a few sheets of your flooring materials to give you a platform?

Easier to snap a quick line on top of wall set joists then rimboard on last and if your accurate at all u can throw layout on rimboard as well before u throw it up

It can be done, and I know they bear on the walls.. but I prefer everything way too tight.

Lucky you got 5 1/2 in plates. Ours are 2 3/4. We're not allowed to walk on plates anymore. Too many accidents

Hi Matt, I’m 32 years old and with 2 year old daughter I’m currently working in a factory but desperately want to move from the cold winter months and re-locate somewhere warm. You must have your material usage down to a science especially doing your own takeoffs and recording the Job start to finish. What do you think of lumber market at the moment?

I finished off the rim on the front with LSL scraps, I had some joist cut-off but nothing else leftover. Take-off was nearly perfect on this one.

Think about this, I would level all the outside walls1st then work in. I would level extra walls with long span level at where walls tie in together as we know as the T then run a line just like you burning 1 1/2 straight all the time the beams always run flush on the inside the outside you’ll lose when you put plywood then just measure 5 3/4 from beam to line. But I would just run the string on the inside

Ever hear of staging. You could plywood the walls and use wall brackets. You could use pipe staging. When one of your workers falls and you had them walking walls workmans comp will not cover you at all.

Materials are terrible now, trying to plumb a wall up is a nightmare, my bottom plate was 5 7/16 and top plate was 5 5/8 trying to use a dot level by yourself is almost impossible
