She got rhythm, she got music, who could ask for anything more? What a breath of fresh air. I didn't know Karen could sing and dance. My first time to see this clip. What an endearing performance and great orchestration by Richard!

Karen is Dee BOMB on the drums. She sings, she dances, she performs like a whirlwind... I miss her dearly.

I think these are great showcase songs to show what a talented singer and drummer she was. After all, they were one of a kind powerhouse in the music industry. They created a whole new kind of music.

Neroli8676, much thanks for uploading this gem of a video of Karen Carpenter. What a doll! What an Angel! Rich and famous, yet she was always quiet and unassuming in person. Never "stuck up", always just "the girl next door". It takes a special kind of person to not let fame and fortune go to their head. Band members said that Karen was the kind of person who would stop and talk to the janitor of the facility they were performing in. Love Karen and miss her.

She would make a great actress. Wish she'd star in a musical film like grease. The camera just loves her. 😍

Lynn, that was one of her big ambitions -- to star in a musical film. Unfortunately, Karen passed away on February 4th, 1983, of complications from anorexia nervosa -- before she could fulfill that dream of hers.

By 1981 her illness was at it's worst and in 1982 she went into therapy in New York. Went home in November '82 . We know what happened in 1983

You sure do have rhythm Karen! Singing,dancing,playing drums, bass guitar and making us laugh so much on your t.v. appearances and your specials.Miss you so much.Thank You for all of the memories!We are still watching you and listening to you and Richard over 50 years later! Thank You Richard for the music.Richard, You might not of liked the funny stuff in the t.v. specials but I think you were very funny! Thank You for the memories!Love the both of you Forever!

Has anyone anywhere seen or heard more astute proficiency in their performance as professional musical artists that they’re not only are they giving you their very best....making it look effortless, and look and appear focused, studied, concentrating on the moment.....and having a blast of fun at the same time. They’re giving us grand entertainment, enjoying themselves....they’re having fun, we’re having fun watching and experiencing them go hog wild..... I’m mean... it really doesn’t get any better than that. They don’t make music or entrainment like this anymore folks. I’m trying not to cry. We all miss our girl Karen, God rest her lovely soul. Bless you whoever you are out there in KZfaqLand!!

Very well said! Karen always looked like she was concentrating on the moment.It was like she was living it or reminiscing about it right in front of our eyes and ears.Yes she was very focused.That's what I loved about her so much that she cared so much to be so focused always! I can't imagine how draining it must have been for her to stay in every moment.I love her speaking and singing voice along with her drumming, bass guitar, great dancing and comedy but her warm and friendly personality along with her expression of emotion will always make me have an admiration for her that is off the charts!

Agreed, but I say go girl! I don't know why, but good drummers don't seem ever to be great dancers even though they control the beat. Great arrangement.

i do not like this at all. this is totally not typical of what Karen Carpenter was all about. had this been typical of her, i would not even be a fan of hers

i'm like on the fence with this comment...i agree, this totally wasn't Karen at all, it's waaayyy too old school for her (especially if you listen to her solo album and unreleased material, i.e. 'Love Makin' Love to You') but her singing (and dancing in this video!) is absolutely amazing. i wish i could've met her, she seemed like she would have been a fun person to be around

+mosesMaimon1 Not typical? So what, why does she have to be stereotyped? She was branching out, trying new things, she took dance lessons and became very good at it like everything else she did, she wouldn't settle for anything less, she was very versatile, and an extremely talented musician.

She really wanted to branch out and do other things, and grow as an artist. By this time (1980) she was ten years into her career, and had gained a lot of confidence, and wanted to show it off. From what she said in later interviews, she really wanted to get into musicals, and this was probably crafted to let producers of that genre to see what she was capable of. I think it's a great number!

I think it's GREAT! I love those 1930's and 1940's songs by Richard Rodgers and other similar composers. Karen does a fantastic job on it. But, no offense to you -- to each, his own. I'm probably a lot older than you.
