Nixon decided to use force to end the Vietnam War, and refused to explain the 12-day "Christmas Bombing" to the American people. "He thought it was diplomatically vital that he make this look as cold an operation as possible," says speechwriter Ray Price.

Carpet Bombing:When a B-52 drops shag carpeting from high altitude with occasional shards of brown wood paneling all bundled in a custom van with a dragon and a wizard airbrush on the sides. Essentially, it's a 1970s nightmare falling from the sky.

Just my opinion; however, I think Linebacker II helped do two things: 1) to reaffirm Nixon's side-pledges in writing to a reluctant Le Duc Tue that although there would be some Vietcong troups in S. Vietnam, near the border, that if they decided to break the peace accord agreements, we would have the resolve to start bombing the hell out of the North again; 2) To let the North know the same. If you'll notice, after January of 1973 it took a little over two full years for the North to get the courage to invade the South, and to topple Saigon.

And even then, only because the US abandoned South Vietnam economically in 1974-1975.

If you study history; warfare, you've seen a million clips of carpet bombing, bombardments, strikes and barrages. I was lit af one night watching a documentary where the concept of carpet bombing was discussed in thorough detail, taking first hand accounts of veterans from both sides. That night, the reality of just how devastating an action like that would be really sunk in. They have records of Viet Cong/NVA discussing their experiences of surviving B-52 strikes in tunnel networks, absolutely heinous.

@user-fu7qg8mq5v‧- No you're just an empty channel as usual, sending manipulative comments as usual from U.K., Russian, Israeli, Australian bases to 'flood the internet' with war propaganda without any legitimate origin, just " via deception we wage war " or " via underhanded low quality we subversively enact power instead of high quality respect, high quality code of conduct, high quality emotions, high quality empathy Etc. " no... just 'underhanded tactics are pratical' such as your flodding the internet with fake accounts & war propaganda. Also surveillance centers using blacklisted and illegal spyware such as Candiru! Can I persuade you people? Look at the movie above, a carpet bombing for 12 days... What's this? How about the Slobodan Milosevic trial and Saddam Hussein court sessions, isn't capturing the leaders and forcing them to appear in televized court sessions, a higher quality code of conduct? Ok, so there's different types of persuasion, many people are ego-trippers which need to advance into a more intellectual, altruistic, global or futuristic mindset, not just " me me me where's my next egotrip ", so the 'levelling up' of those people is very possible. Next, many people on earth are religious with different beliefs about their punishments vs rewards in the afterlife... Well, I can persuade that there are no punishments nor rewards in the afterlife, so all religions which indoctrinate the 'punishment or reward' system, including Islam, Asatro / Viking religions, Judeo-Christianity, Catholic churches and so on should all be discarded (and then their buildings (i.e. churches) renovated). For example... Do you really think that human-like creatures on far away planets would talk about Jeanne D'Arc or Moses or Himiko or various scammers on earth claiming to be a 'god'? No? And would they talk about Muslim scriptures or Niflheim / Valkyries Etc.? No? So, people such as myself abandon the " Arabic Muslims versus Judaic religions vs Judeo-Christians / Catholics versus Nordic religion fighters versus Iranian Muslims " religious war, engulfing much of the planet! People such as myself are outside of it. I'm not 'indoctrinated and fearsome of afterlife punishment, and/or looking forward to afterlife rewards' with the religious war many of you subversive tactics lone wolves and military staff seem to be stuck in. War should NOT be religious, and religions should NOT be fake.

We should have done that from day one. WWII carpet bombing with B52s until all NVA troops were removed from South Vietnam. According to US POWs in Hanoi, those B52 bombings really shook the NV up. The guards were visibly shaken. They started treating them much better thereafter.

To late for that. LBJ yucked up including the two political parties that passed that damned Gulf of Tonkin Resolution based on a damnable lie that cost over 58,000 American lives. Some of those Americans were Foreign born including a Finnish immigrant that fought in 3 different armies. Recently, they brought his human remains back to the States to receive a proper military burial with honors that his surviving family members finally get relief from all the burden they carried with them all these decades. My Condolences.

But 12 days conventional bombing DID stop them, temporarily. The communists were very brave when it was SOUTH Vietnamese civilians dying for their dreams of power. When their own powerbase was threatened, they ran to the negotiating table and signed a cease-fire. They lacked the endurance of e.g. the Japanese Imperialists in WWII.
