Growing up in a Baptist Church I’ve heard this song sung more times than I can count, but I’ve NEVER heard it done like that. What she’s doing here is beyond extraordinary, and I don’t think the majority of the audience understands that. This is a simple song that she’s turning into a masterpiece by pure force of talent.

I had a friend who was a non believer and 1 sermon at a friends funeral service changed her. She is now baptized, goes to church every Sunday and has given her life to God.

Kathy here - just found your channel and so glad this is the one I got to watch. I am almost 69 years old, and it brings back memories of my mother singing in church, until I was old enough to be up there with her. She and I would take turn on the lead. I had it played at her memorial service. I played with a band for 15 years, lead singer, and every now and then at events, not at the club we played at, lol, but we would be asked if we knew this song. I was so grateful my bandmates actually knew it the first time we were asked to play it. And Carrie is just a phenom. And Vince Gill is one of the most requested guest artists to collaborate with in country music. And he can make that guitar sing!!! And a standing O before she even finishes the song! Amazing! This never was my most favorite religious song. But after hearing Carrie’s version. I started liking it a lot better. There’s always other songs I preferred to hear and sing during church masses. But I have grown to like it a lot more after hearing this performance.

You can tell that this song means something to her. It was more than just her belting out a song. She felt that and it showed. If you can bring Naomi Judd to tears just from singing, you've done something. Interesting trivia bit about Vince Gill. He was asked to be the guitarist for Dire Strait and he turned it down because he wanted to be a singer

Growing up in a Wesleyan Church, this song was a regular one. My middle sister and I did this when she was an alto and I a baritone. The comparison between the Holy Spirit taking over her voice the last part and any other version I have heard among the thousands has no real comparison. I'd have been on my feet and clapping my hands raw after she sang.

Thank you for not stopping to comment on this performance. I happened to have been working on this and during the first time in rehearsal Carrie and Vince barely got all the way though it. I wept and it hard for me to believe you didn't. Listen to her sing "Jesus Take the Wheel" but listen to the words and DO NOT STOP TO COMMENT UNTIL IT'S OVER.

No, Carrie wasn't sick that day. Carrie was so nervous that day. Carrie did that performance in front of all her peers. Carrie is just not used to getting all the praise. Carrie said in an interview few months later. Carrie was surprised by all of the veteran country singers saying how good she is. Carrie doesn't think she is that good to this day.
