Hey Elly, My name is Jocelyn and I'm trying to get some insight on how I could better help with your business. And I was wondering if you could take a second to answer 2 quick questions: 1. How is your brand's online presence to your market? 2.Are you able to track results from your social media marketing? I know you'll find this a bit surprising but I really appreciate your time and want to say again that I love your products. Talk soon, Jocelyn Grefalde

Thank you so much for this video, it was so fun to watch. The soap came out beautifully. I'm new to soap making and am working on recipes formulation. Could you tell me how you calculate the amount of additives you add to your recipe? For example coffee grounds, turmeric, the carrots or other vegetables.
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking3 жыл бұрын
Hi Teresa, thank you. Powders, coffee, turmeric etc I don't calculate, they can just be added as you please. Liquid ingredients are most often calculated as a portion of the liquid amount for the soap recipe. As long as you have a minimum 1:1 water to lye ratio for the lye solution, you can add other liquids/purees on top of that in the recipe, which increases the total liquid amount. There's more detail of this recipe in the description box :)

Hi Elly.....I just wanted to say I'm so grateful for your videos and Thank you!. I'm in Blayney NSW (tiny country town) and I'm a huge crafter and maker. Like so many I lost my job during covid and stumbled onto youtube tutorials while looking for a new focus/project to keep myself sane. I've always been into homecrafting....basically making, baking, sewing, candles, oils, jamming etc. You name it. I've done it. I've steered clear of soaps because of the precise nature of making them and the scary sounding chemicals. I put it in the too hard basket. I found so many videos showing me the amazing options for making soap and decided to give it a go. YOUR videos are the thing that tipped me over. I've used your videos to teach myself the basics and it's you that has demystified the process for me. Without you I might not have jumped in. I have a notebook jam packed full of info thanks to you. I used your guides for the hard stuff and I'm so grateful to you. I calculated my batch size and it WORKS...lol. Everything from mould lining, Lye calculating, curing, PH testing...I have your recipes and tips written down and I refer to them non stop. Even after finding a new great job I'm still obsessed with soap making. I just wanted to say I really appreciate you sharing your videos. Everything you make and explain is fantastic, not just in soaps. When we go on our next coastal trip (whenever things settle) I'm going to make your soleseife soap, and I'm so excited to try it. Sorry to blather on but from one maker to another, thank you!

As long as I know hot process soaps can be used right away .....
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking3 жыл бұрын
Some people say that, but they really do benefit from a 6 week cure like any other soap. CP soap is also fully saponified within a couple of days but we still cure it for 6 weeks. It's not just about the saponification :)
@mreinstein483 жыл бұрын
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking so what is the benefit of hot process soaps then? I thought that the principal"s was to be able to use it right away.. I am into cold process for years but I wonder if I could not try the hot process method sometimes....
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking3 жыл бұрын
HP soaps do saponify faster, it's forced, but they still greatly benefit from the good cure time. I think that view of using them straight away is getting less popular! It's just a matter of process and which one you prefer :)
@khione80443 жыл бұрын
@@mreinstein48 Elly is correct. While HP soaps are "safe to use" right away, this does not mean it's "cured". Many KZfaqrs have confused newbies by saying HP soaps don't need to cure as long because it's fully saponified, but this is false. It is also due to this belief, is why many soapers feel that HP soaps are "not as good" as CP soaps, because they didn't fully cure it under the belief that it didn't need to cure. CP soaps are 100% fully saponified and "safe to use" after a max of 72 hours (3 days max). A 3 day difference in Saponification time is not gonna magically cure HP soap faster. Hot Process uses heat to accelerate the Saponification Process, but that is all it does. It still needs to cure just as long as CP soaps need to. The reason for this is due to water evaporation and crystallization. CP soaps can be made with extremely steep water discounts, which if you tried to make with HP will end up being extremely dry. HP soaps need a lot more water content, which can actually increase the curing time. As soaps evaporate, they begin to form a crystalline structure. The speed of this crystalline structure 100% entirely depends upon the recipe used to make it. Hard oils/fats/butters (saturated fats) crystallize very quickly (usually within the 4-6 week recommended time period), whereas soft/liquid oils (unsaturated fats) can take months to fully crystallize. Example: a high olive oil soap feeling "slimy" without a 6-12 month cure. This is due to the olive oil in the soap not having fully crystallized yet, and therefore doesn't feel as nice on the skin yet. It's due to the crystallization process, is why Hot Process doesn't really cure faster, despite what many try to claim. There are many benefits to HP, just as there are many benefits to CP. In the end, it depends on which process the soapmaker prefers. I apologize for such a long comment!

@@mreinstein48 I've used my hp straight away but I don't sell it before a 4 wk cure and some actually longer. What I find is how long the bar lasts at 2wk cure, 4 wk cure and 6 wk. I have amazing bars of hp a yr old. They are great sellers and I think the customers like the nice hard bars

Hi Elly! Been making Hot Process soaps now for 4 years, and I can honestly say that I did not find a single inaccurate thing in your video! This is very rare as so many people on KZfaq like to make false claims about Hot Process. Everything you mentioned was 100% accurate! You did a great job! I also prefer to add my purees into the cooking phase, because just like you, I'd prefer the food purees go through the saponification reaction, rather than it being added in at the end of the cook. There are only a few things I will trust to add at the end of the cook, but food purees are not 1 of them for me (just my own personal preference, I know many others don't share this same belief). I also love how you mentioned that HP soaps still need to cure the same 4-6 weeks! The myth that HP soaps don't need to cure has been going around for far too long now.

Thank you so much Khione, that feedback means a lot to me! I am not very experienced with HP soap, but I do like to be very thorough and research my subjects well before I make videos for them. That's so good to hear, thank you again :)

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking You're welcome! I know you do CP more often, and you mentioned in the video how you don't do HP much, which is why I commented that I didn't find any inaccuracies in anything you said! I love how you explained everything, and the soap came out so beautiful and lovely!

Bravo!! Excellent video!!! And the rain water!!!! Last year I cooked coconut soap and I used half water and half coconut milk and I had the coconut milk iced in ice cube form and used it with the water to bring sown the temperature of the lye solution.
