when i was 14 i was already listening to electronic music, this was back in 1979. It was unbelievable that Numan`s AFE found its way into the music charts in that year. I have followed Numan ever since through all his musical genres. At the age of 16 I joined his fan club which was run by his mum Beryl here in the U.K, in those days you could write into the club which i did often. i wrote a letter in which i told gary he was a God. i was surprised to hear in a later interview that he mentioned a fan writing in calling him God. this shows that Numan is actually a real person who does and always has had a close connection with his fan base to the point of remembering such a detail. when i was about to turn 18 i wrote asking if he would attend my birthday party. to my surprise i received a beautiful handwritten letter from Beryl apologising that he could not attend as gary was in rehearsal. this kind of personal touch is heartwarming and beautiful in its sincerity. Numan deserves all the success in the world. not only is he a genius but he is a world class superstar. NUUMAAAN.

Love Gary Numan. Brilliant musician and just a down to earth guy. Id love it if Gary & Alice did a tour together. Garys darker material(and even some of his retro classics) i think would mesh with alice's audience. Being a fan of both, Maybe its just me

brilliant interview. Gary has always been such a shy humble man and a true (sometimes unnoticed) diamond in the music industry. I really enjoyed this. 1st gig i ever went to was Gary Numan, 1980 at the Glasgow Apollo . telekon tour, I was 9 years old, my dad took me and my brother. still one of my fondest memories. it was mind blowing for a nine year old and no gig since has ever topped it for me and probably never will :) so glad his last few albums have done well and he's still pushing strong.

imo, his first 2 albums were his best -- tubeway army, and replicas -- give em a listen, and you'll hear what he was like when he started -- very fresh and raw, with a punk feel. 'replicas' has some synths, but the synths weren't foremost as they were in 'pleasure principle'

I hope the general public will finally see the genius of Gary Numan, and stop saying "Oh, I know him. He's the guy who did 'Cars.'" I have a young friend who is 25 who knows a lot about Gary Numan, though, so there is some hope. iTunes has a great documentary on his life, up to And including him being a father, called "Android in La La Land." I recommend it.

I dont know why "Cars" seems to be his only radio hit here in USA. I think " This Wreckage ", " I'm an agent" , and " I dream of wires" could have been singles also. I was 14 in 1979 as well. Never got tired of "Cars".

It’s funny that I stumbled across this KZfaq video of Gary Numan much like the way I stumbled across a cassette of Gary Numan and the tubeway army some 35 years. It was tucked into to a cassette player that was somewhat buried in some bushes at my cousins house, like someone just stashed it there and ran off. I listened to that tape maybe 100 times lol. And so my taste for obscure punk music began...

The only Numan lp I have is REPLICAS(actual vinyl) and I've come to reappreciate it again over the last 15 years or so. I bought the lp in the early 80s and also owned TELEKON on cassette. Found it in a bargain bin and I never got into it. It literally fell apart anyway. Underappreciated talent.

Going to see Gary tonight in Phoenix! At one time I had four Numan albums. All before 1996. Those LP's were with my "general collection" about 450 LP's and singles. All Stolen a few tears ago. I had No idea that Gary's latest is his 22nd! Damn I need to catch up! Oh, my complete Cooper collection was separate from the "general collection" those were not stolen so, I still have my original pressings of "Pretties" and Easy Action,

Gary Numan did it right. The drums & bass were real which let him use all the synths for color. Bands that used the synths as the rhythm section just had no punch back then.

As has already been said, this is a nice change, to see him so relaxed, clearly being open and honest, and not all wound up and nervy. Love the album, and am slowly working back through all the ones I missed since that dreadful "Metal Rhythm"...back in the day.... Still would like to see him revisit those 1978/Plan songs, as they still stand up as masterpieces......

I've often wondered about that as well. Flush The Fashion was a real anomaly in Alice's body of work. But Gary and Alice had very similar aesthetic at the time, but I think by the time Gary was a household name, Alice was already well into Special Forces, which is basically Flush pt. 2, but with a more agressive tone. But I digress. Bottom line is I've never seen any documentation where Gary cited Alice. You could always check the original SickThings searchable archives, it's a wealth of information.
