The Hyundai Staria people mover doesn't look or feel like many of its rivals. With its eye-catching design and interesting interior fitout, the Staria could be seen as a bit over-the-top for some family buyers.
Nedahl Stelio tested the eight-seater Staria base model diesel AWD variant, which at just over fifty thousand dollars is a very well priced passenger van. But having driven the Kia Carnival, Mercedes Valente, VW Multivan and the Staria's in-house SUV rival, the Palisade, does this imposing newcomer offer something worth considering for families?
If you need lots of cabin space and thoughtful storage, plus a massive boot, the answer is yet. There's a lot of safety tech and thoughtful inclusions for the money as well. But with not as many child seat anchor points as you'd think, and a couple of other family unfriendly considerations on the entry-level model, there's something to seemingly be said of spending up on the mid- or high-grade version if you're in the market for a Staria.

Nedahl, love your reviews. To the point as reviews should be. I like the look of the vehicle and the interior space is stunning. That big door without power is a bit of a problem though. It should be a delete option on the base model.

It actually looks ok in a dark colour. Hideous in white though 😅 Great review as always!

Just went around Tasmania in this one (Diesel). Fit for purpose - plenty of space. The sliding doors are a real problem. My wife had real difficulty closing the sliding doors. Huge boot. We had 4 large suitcases and assorted luggage - very good space. Drives OK but lacks power when passing at speed. We travelled on a lot of winding roads - OK as long as you realise it is essentially a van.

The front view reminds me the Toyota's Previa of early 90', even it's name Staria.

Malaysia's hefty import duties. Might be more affordable to buy a Proton X90.

The vehicle you buy with your brain if you have a large family. Trying to get everyone into a 7 seater SUV comfortably is a stretch when you have teenage children, then you also have the small boots to contend with. The looks will put some people off.

Just had a 2 weeks road trip with it. Awesome. shine well and wide. can be tweak up and down via button. Most of the points she mentioned is right on dot. Most disturbing to me about this car is its huge A pillar that block near view traffic and to some extend compromise driver safety unless you keep leaning forward backward.

Nedahl does an amazing job with the review, as always……but, and it’s a big one - Hyundai have missed the mark by a wide margin with the aesthetics here. This thing is butt ugly…..

Damn straight it does. It looks good because its good engineering, good packaging and its fit for purpose. Its not styled to appeal to idiot SUV drivers with their insecurities. Its not designed to be "aggressive" and its not designed to be a major hazard to other road users. SUVs are bought by morons... People who actually need to move people in comfort buy these. @@Ofthe7thSon
