Ⓘ This video is intended for GENERAL AUDIENCES and can be enjoyed by adults.
Happy Halloween everyone! I'm so excited to be showing this off to you, I've worked really hard on this for the last month or so. The idea came to me randomly as I was driving home from work and I immediately messaged Mike and we brainstormed what we could do with Diesel, Arry and Bert for a while until we settled on something we both liked! This wouldn't have been possible without the help of the Video Workshop. They always help with my videos, but on this one, everyone had feedback to give and it all made such a better product in the end I think. I really cannot wait for you all to see this.
MASSIVE Thanks to Kool_Aid203 for letting us use their awesome smelters building once again! Last year, we only had a small section in Trainz, but this time we have the WHOLE THING! IT'S HUGE! As usual, Jake and Xavier really came through with modelling our scrap engine this year! I won't say too much about it as I don't want to spoil the story.
Also, I'd like to formally welcome ‪@dcg12b‬ to the Video Workshop. Jake Harbour has been very busy these past few months and hasn't really had time to narrate. So! I've brought on David to help in the meantime.
I really hope you all enjoy this year's special, it's truly been a treat to work on and always, thanks for watching.

Well are you really surprised? What has Thomas always been about? Engines, especially steam engines are as alive as anything man made can get, in my honest opinion they have souls from the fact they combinde the two elements of the greatest power naturally made. Not periodic Elements, the physical elements, fire, water, earth, air, ice, stone, light, shadow. Fire and water produced the second most powerful explosive force we know, steam! Those engines with rusting chalked faces and requests, nay pleas to live is not much different from what you might call out if your life was in danger! Forgive me but, like many I get emotional for steam engines. People don't know just what they are and how much we needed them to build our world. They were seen by many as replacements for their work, but they were here to help and we turned our backs on them. To get a better feel for this read "Hearts of Steel" a Transformers comic set in a world when the track laying man fought and beat a machine to prove humans are just as capable, only for him to fall from the strain. John Henry the Steel driving man.

Unlike other episodes where either the drivers exist and the trains lacked total autonomy, or there were no drivers and the trains had freedom of movement, this one featured both, resulting in a slight inconsistency in that Diesel's pranks and interactions with the ghost train don't make sense if his driver were onboard. I have always had my own pet theory that drivers were only required if the trains were traveling from one location to another, with the trains having autonomy if left within the yard/sheds, but that's just my attempt to explain the Thomas universe. Nevertheless, it's a great short movie, and I especially loved how the face "grew" out of the defunct engine, as if forcing itself awake from a long slumber. Brilliant. I also got jump-scared when Diesel crashed into the engine even though I was expecting one.

Engines, in canon, very little control over themselves. They can jolt forward or backward, or do little things, but can't feasibly drive themselves. Thomas Comes to Breakfast is a great example of this, and of course Old Iron. Perhaps Diesel's driver was in on the prank, an engine can only be so mischievous on their own after all, makes sense for their driver to play a part in it.

The cinematography is fantastic. The shot when the face lights up is super creepy. And as always the best ghost stories are those where you don't know if the ghost was really there or not. Too many Thomas horror stories outright confirm the ghost being real which never feels appropriate for Sodor's relatively realistic setting. Also "no eyes always watching" on the tender, nice nod to Slenderman.

Wow. After seeing this, I realize that Bert really got off lightly in his ghostly encounter. Sure, his was creepy, but it was really just a stern talking to; definitely not as scary or threatening as Diesel's. Then again, Diesel was bloody using an engine's *corpse* to pull a prank, which is all kinds of messed up.

I like how the events of A Dark Night for Bert plays a small role in this story. This was really well done, Carson and Mike. I've watched this video a couple of times even in the dark, really added a major dramatic effect. That cinematography was (Chef's kiss) I loved that scene of the demonic engines giving Diesel a fright. Music score was on point, enjoyed the instrumental track on the Sound of Clouds. It was nice having David narrate this story, his voice and narration style makes this story really effective and spooky. Can't wait for what you may have in store for next year.

I had, adimitedly, not been as trusting of this story when I heard you were adapting it, I feel a redemption for Diesel is mostly undeserved, this took what the story should of been, and made it better in every way, Diesel was in his element, cocky, troublesome, and above all, dismissive, the scene with the scrap engines were so authenticly chilling, coupled with the music, it made this whole story worth it! Bert's bits were amazing too, I love the link between the two tales. Outstanding work, some of your best work, I can't wait to see more like this.
@Plokman040
@Plokman040 2 жыл бұрын
No, you're wrong. Some can't change that is true, we certainly see it alot recently and no mistake. But everyone deserves a chance of redemption, Diesel I feel should of been allowed one, he was the first of his kind a new more straight forward machine. He was praised by those who to be honest were lazy, to some degree and just wanted money for nothing. His pride was not born it was as many fall into, given to him by those around him. He had his fall, he was taught a lesson and deserves all the chance to learn. He is always a villain because it is so easy for people to judge by covers and first chapters in life, tell me do those who have only ever committed a single crime and truly repent for it, but because of the mark on their record can't get a new chance deserve that of murderers and petty theives who have no intention of changing? Flawed he may be, but he is not so different from Thomas, he played tricks too and every time he learned. Teasing Gordon, not being patient, not treating others with respect and not doing what he was warned not to do. But does he deserve to be scrapped, tortured by that which he learned sense from, punished further for apologies that were sincere? We all have done things in our lives we aren't proud of, what matters is to keep trying and trying to put it away. My father is my hero for more than just being someone who never give up on me, but because he saw sense after two bouts with cancer from chewing tobacco. Why did he get in the habit in the first place you may ask, he lost someone so dear to him that he couldn't handle the depression without nicotine. His mom, my grandmother who I never met died of cancer when he was 12. Me I don't judge those who smoke, vape or otherwise, no I only ask them if they know just what they're getting into trying to help. If they know the risk, but still wish to use the stuff I leave them alone on the subject. But if they need help, I will always give a hand to save them. Life is too short to always wish ill on those who have chances. Those that have give in, and fully plan to never and I mean never change they deserve scorn! But not those who can have a chance, you know that often the most evil villain in a movie is played by the person who would give you a chance and the shirt off their back. But the movies they star in time after time portray them as monsters, that is called type casting. If you ask me it is as bad as racism, but see what you wanna see. I can't force my opinion or view on you I can only give you my advice and I mean no offence for lecturing. But if we each say hello to someone and say "have a good day" they would be very likely to say it to someone, and then that person says it to another. Dominos for good. Wisdom is not knowledge and putting it to use, wisdom is creating something from nothing and learning it to push forward for others. Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over expecting a different result. I have slid into that siding, but twice is all it took me to know my mistake. May you have a safe life, and I hope I haven't hurt you with my words. Just trying to make the world better one small leap at a time.
