Never expected Touareg could handle such difficult muddy and bumpy off-road course. It is a decent off-road car!!

I have mudded for 50 years, if it's moving DONT STOP, also most knew to keep tire speed up to clear tires and few knew to turn front tires back and forth. These vehicles made the drivers look good regardless that most didn't have a clue. My next vehicle will be a Diesel Tourareg!

i have a 2010 tdi touareg and its incredible what these can do even stock. a small lift and some tires make these things extremely capable on the trail. 4motion with low range and locking diff is a brilliant awd system.

I don't think this was meant as a true head-to-head comparison as it was to simply showcase the abilities of two similar vehicles. Although the Touareg has a true 4x4 system, the Audi did very well on the terrain it was on, and most Q7 owners won't go near that type of stuff. Props to all who take their vehicles off the beaten path as they were intended!

It WAS a head to head, and this terrain will never be visited by most owners of either vehicle.

Ronald Reed I agree with the assessment of most owners not taking these vehicles off road in situations like this (mostly in America though as people in other countries push all of their 4wd or AWD vehicles to the limit far more than we do), but what I meant by “true” head-to-head is that even though the Audi may have the all-around best AWD system, you can’t compare it to a true 4wd system. If you are showing the differences, then the comparison is okay, but not trying to prove which is better for off-roaming since their respective systems serve different functions.

J Barns The Touareg comes with three locking diffs, so its 4wd system is overall better than Audi’s for true off-roading.

Both are equally good, tested in different terrains by different drivers, so difficult to compare. Yet both are very good luxury SUV

@YASH Choudhary You DO realize that they are the same platform, one just has a true 4wd system, and the other has an AWD system..? Obviously there are other differences, but for all intents and purposes, they are the same basic vehicle...

BTW… I currently own a 2013 AUDI Q7 V6 3.0L TDI. 70K miles, Espresso Brown, Tan leather, OZ Wheels with Nokian (WR G4 SUV) 275/45R/20 tires. This car is a BEAST in the SNOW! (I live in the NW of the US).

The Touareg's advantage is mainly its approaching and departure angles and smaller wheelbase in relation to the Q7. I'm not familiar with Audi's implementation of 4WD with the Q7 and whether they have low range and locking differentials like the Touareg to comment any further.

Im sorry to tell you but i sold my touareg, instead i bought an Opel, i want to buy again an Touareg. I had 2.5 R5 wich was not so reliable, i wish for 3.0 v6 Touareg or an Audi A4 1.9 TDI

The engine is the same if we are talking about diesel v6. This engine is used in touareg, audi and Porsche.

Did the cars have standard tyres for the mud test? Our 2014 Touareg is rubbish off road in the wet. 3 litre diesel that can't pull an empty horse trailer off a wet field. It even has difficulty on its own! Our previous car, a 2007 Hyundai Terracan had no trouble on wet grass or in mud. Twice the car for half the money! Unfortunately, they don't make them anymore.

Maybe, but they were the tyres that it was supplied with from new. I bought new tyres a couple of months ago, but the ground has been rock hard as it hasn't rained properly since May.

Туарег кончился после прекращения выпуска модели GP. NF уже не той породы. Q7 даже и не пытаются совать туда где Туарег запросто проезжает.
