The Road by Cormac McCarthy Book Review -
Here's another excellent book to read guys. The Road is an extremely powerful book that I have loads of respect for. Cormac McCarthy is one of my favorite authors and I think more people should check out his stuff. In this review I also touch on the movie starring Viggo Mortenson which I think is an astounding adaptation.

"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery." Fucking incredible writing, such an excellent book.

I loved The Road. It was the first of McCarthy's novels I'd ever read. I plan on reading Blood Meridian next. I agree about the movie. The movie was so disturbing that I was afraid to read the book, but when I read the book, I really enjoyed it as a whole so much more. And I thought the movie adaptation was one of the best I'd ever seen. Great review.

I loved The Road, and I just finished The Passenger and Stella Maris which are excellent but very cerebral. Blood Meridian remains my favorite of his though The Border Trilogy sticks with me more tenaciously. So maybe deep down those are my favorite of his. Note, for The Border Trilogy I always recommend downloading the Spanish translations for the bits in that language scattered throughout those novels. I haven't read No Country for Old Men but I heard you have to have your expectations geared down because you'll be reading a screenplay instead of a novel.

Love your comment about the walking dead becoming a gore fest. That is what is happening to Rick and Morty right now. It started off being an intelligent show, and now it's just fart and dick jokes based around other movie ideas. Haven't heard Rick say anything thought-provoking in a long time. That IS why books are good. Anyway, The Road is fantastic. Interesting that you said it's not for the faint of heart. I can see why some people would be shocked or depressed about it. But, I would just say they haven't seen enough reality. Life is pretty dark.

Agreed. But it might desensitize ... and it could be cathartic

It should be noted that McCarthy does not use incorrect punctuation, nor does he favor run-on sentences. And his grammar, when it does diverge, it's done for creative purposes. A better description would be that he's _unconventional_. Though for whatever reason he doesn't (doesnt) like 't. :)

Great book made into a great film. I'm not sure of the super volcano theory. In my opinion its more likely that a comet or meteorite has collided with earth causing a nuclear winter. Yes, its a very dark and somewhat disturbing story. You won't walk away feeling good when your done put it that way.

Pretty much any theory is equally viable. I have not seen the film but when reading it I too theorized q super volcano or serious of volcanic eruption is what caused the sky to darken and ash to rain as similar things have happened to the Earth in the past

If I had to take a guess on the setting, I would say that the story took place in the Pacific Northwest or somewhere in the west coast of the United States

Stop trying to be funny... Please... Somewhere in this presentation I think I sensed you had something to say... I wish you'd stop diluting yourself with the 'Bart Simpson' schtick because I'd like hear it... But your comment about the book and the film adaptation, Not for the faint of heart? Not to be viewed alone by those with depressive issues... Yup you got that right...
