Third season of the Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the Early Muslim Expansion starts with the aftermath of the battles against the Sassanid and Eastern Roman empires at Yarmouk and al-Qadisiyyah ( • Early Muslim Expansion... ) and battles of Ctesiphon, Alexandria, Nikiou, Jerusalem, Sufetula, Heliopolis, and Nahavand ( • Early Muslim Expansion... ). We are going to cover the aftermath of the beginning of the First Fitna (Civil War) in the Rashidun Caliphate ( • First Muslim Civil War... ) and the battle of Siffin of 657, which led to the rise of the Umayyad Caliphate ( • Battle of Siffin 657 -... ), external expansion continued with the siege of Constantinople in 674-678, but this didn't stop the Second Fitna from happening, leading to the battles of Karbala (680) and Marj Rahit (684) ( • Constantinople 674-678... ). We also previously talked about the conclusion of the Second Fitna and the rise and fall of the Zubayrid Caliphate ( • Second Civil War in th... ). In this episode the armies of the Caliphate return to the frontiers, clashing with the crumbling Byzantine Empire in Armenia and North Africa. In the latter, they would not find opposition not just in the Roman remnant, as the rise of a new warrior queen among the Berbers posed a serious challenge to Hassan ibn al-Nu’man’s conquering army in the Maghreb. And even as the Umayyads won victories on the battlefield and expanded ever further, the cohesion and unity of their empire continued to deteriorate on their Eastern frontiers, planting the seeds of their eventual collapse. And we will also discuss how Carthage was razed once again.

@@Vasilefs_Terranorum They may not have to worry about coups, but rebellions? The rebels want manpower, materiel and finance to overthrow the state. The state wants manpower, materiel and finance to quell the rebels. They both want them as fast and as much as possible. All those will always be extracted from ordinary people, aka the populace. The longer a rebellion goes on, the worse it will be for the populace. And sometime when combatants are allowed to get their spoil of war via head count, what a nice head you have on your shoulders!

It's kind of disappointing that Kings & Generals is advertising Established Titles. They don't actually give you a titleship; the best you get is the title of "Laird," which is not a legal title. To be an actual, legal Lord, you need to be nominated by Parliament and confirmed by the reigning monarch, owning a tiny piece of land doesn't actually make you a Lord. It's a vanity piece. You could just type up your own certificate and print it out and it would have the same legitimacy. I would have hoped K&G, being such a historical and fact based channel, would have checked this. They don't even have a presence in Scotland! I do urge K&G to reconsider accepting sponsorships from ET. Whilst not illegal per say, it IS a misleading company. Hell, there's an official court that oversees lordship in Scotland, and they pretty conclusively said that this isn't a real thing. You're basically paying 50 bucks (plus 30 extra if you want the printed certificate) for a non-legal tite for a piece of land you can't visit and don't really own, to be able to call yourself "Lord" which you could have done anyway since nobody is gonna challenge you if you just start signing things with "Lord" or "Lady." I just hope people will realise that this is a hell of a grift and stop spreading the misinformation that this is actually a legal loophole. It isn't. You're not a legal lord. You're paying 80 bucks for a piece of paper, and K&G, please stop encouraging people to waste their money on it.

I am starting to believe that live in Carthage was like live in a big target with the inscription "Raze me". Edit: I just learned that Belgrade is the most unluck/resilient city in Europe. The city has been completely destroyed and rebuilt 44 times and has seen 115 different wars. But I'm sure there won't be a forty-fifth time, right guys?

You should make a series on the dervish state and it's campaign against the British and Italian empires push into Africa. They outlasted the scramble for Africa and got recognition from the Ottoman and German empires and remained the only independent African Muslim power during World War 1, before finally being overrun by the early use of aerial bombardment and reconnaissance.

The dervish movement was a very interesting one, it started many years before ww1 and ended years after ww1. It was highly successful and if it wasn't for the combined efforts of the worlds largest nation (british empire) as well as the kingdom of italy and ethiopian empire, they would have likely won and united the somalis. Their only big mistake was centralizing themselves in forts, but its not their fault they didn't know of aerial bombardment's existence. Too many people think africans were weak and colonialism was easy, but many great african nations took european and native african coalitions to take down.

Just saying but I can’t wait to see the battles of Guadalete, Covadonga, Toulouse, Garonne, Tours and the siege of Narbonne and I can’t wait to see the battle of Covadonga because before the battle took place it looked like the Umayyad’s were unstoppable in their conquest of Hispania but at Covadonga king Pelagius of Asturias defeated the Umayyads but I also can’t wait to see the battle of Covadonga because it was the beginning of a conflict known as the Reconquista which would begin in the 8th century and end in the 15th century and this conflict would see the end of the Muslim rule over the modern day nation’s of Spain and Portugal and it would also see the rise of famous people on both sides of this conflict and great examples on the Christian side are El Cid and Sir James Douglas lord of Douglas Scottish knight and patriot who fought for Scottish independence in the first war of Scottish independence and Douglas was fighting in Spain because when Robert the Bruce king of Scotland was dying he asked Douglas to carry his heart to the holy land and present it at the church of the holy sepulcher as a mark of penance and he would be slain at the battle of teba and besides these two there were many others. After Tariq Ibn Ziyad's conquests, any army sent beyond to the fringes of the empire are nothing more than small raids, which explain why the sizes of the armies were so small, including Covadonga and Tours (there was another army sent to Toulouse too). Heck, even Tariq's army was tiny compared to the ones sent in other areas. The Umayyads concentrated so much on the Byzantine, Turkic, and Caucasian fronts.

The battle of Covadonga is really only important as foundational national myth, but in most contemporary Muslim sources appears as mostly as small skirmish, which makes sense, since most of the Muslim forces were busy in other places. You view of the Reconquista is also ahistorical. The Reconquista is more of a historiographical term for a long period of time than an actual conflict. There was not a single unified prolonged conflict between the Christian and Islamic kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula, there were plenty of smaller punctual conflicts between some Islamic and Christian states, as well as Christian kingdoms fighting other Christian kingdoms and Islamic states fighting other Islamic states (and in those cases, Muslims used Christiane as allies and viceversa all the time), one example of these complex relationship is the Nasrid kingdom, which was a tributary vassal of Castile, who often offered military assistance, but also sometimes also an opponent of Castile, other times it helped Muslims to come to Península to fight Christians, other times it stopped the same and even tried to conquer Ceuta from the Marinids, who reconquered it with the help of the Aragonese (a little later the Marinids also attacked the Aragonese). The same problema comes from the perception of Almoravids and Almohads trying to reconquer the Península again, while on both dinasties is impossible to deny that religious zeal drove a large part of their actions, their goals were more on the creation of unified North African/Southern Spanish states that could compete in equal standing with the Christian kings. The Arabs razed Carthage because they couldn’t hold onto the walled city due to their naval weakness, the Byzantines kept retaking the city with their navy. The 2nd and final destruction of the famed metropolis is a loss for Tunisia and North Africa.

"Naval weakness" ? The Arabs crushed the Byzantine fleet at the Battle of the masts. Note: it was the Arabs' first naval battle as well.
