Cartier Santos. 1 year on my wife's wrist.

It has officially been 1 year since my wife and I walked into a Cartier authorized dealer, and walked out with a few beautiful watches. My wife has worn this Cartier Santos Medium daily. She has not held back one bit in wearing this beauty. This Santos has been put to the test, it is covered in wear and tear, but it remains beautiful. Cartier has quickly become one of my all time favorite watch brands. Often overlooked, the brand offers some spectacular timepieces with provenance and timeless designs. The only downside to the wearability of this watch is that I rarely get a chance to steal it from her! If you’re on the fence about this watch, hopefully this video helps.

Depends on the wrist man, I love the medium but my wrist is 7.75-8 inches and there's just no way a medium santos will look proportional on me it will look like a women's watch.

From a brands perspective, you know that you've really "hit on a design" as timeless as this one, when a casual observer, can witness extended periods of the item in question, being worn interchangeably between both husband and wife, of obviously different size and shape, and yet still after 20 odd-minutes, be unsure of whom the item suited more. I cannot in all honesty, say definitively, whom I feel the watch looked better on. I would say that much of this, is attributable to your sense of style, and eye for the attractive, while producing, and editing this piece. Almost as much so, as that of Cartier, when creating this design, so many years ago. Even down to your choice of music. A very classy production, IMHO, and a very forward thinking design, on the part of Cartier. Well done, and bravo👏

Thank you Tara! Cartier is one of my favorite brands in generally. Me and my wife love the designs of their jewelry and I of course love their watchmaking even more. As to who this piece looks better on, no question it’s my wife, she is class all around. This watch suits her and her daily endeavors. That being said I will always steal it from time to time because I am a little jealous 😅

Yes and it looks great on her wrist! I have the mid size two tone and I love it - presently I prefer the navy blue alligator deployant strap which is very comfortable, slightly lighter and very classy. I too am envious that your partner can wear a new watch without a whisker of concern. I still baby mine which is ridiculous ... I will never look cool if am self conscious about a watch!

Great video on the Santos. Wore mine for this past weekend in Las Vegas and it really seemed to fit in with some of the vibes there. Especially enjoyed it while at a cocktail bar in the Cosmopolitan.

I've been thinking about this watch. I have Cartier jewelry pieces and the Santos has always been my favorite in their watch line. Spinel is a natural gem but can be expensive as a natural stone. I, too, wish Cartier would have used a natural stone or kept to the natural sapphire used on their higher end models. I've been leaning toward the medium and it was good to see it on both of your wrists. Great video!

Thank you! I was really unsure about the spinal stone. It does retain the beauty of the blue sapphires they originally use, so it is a little bit picky given the price point this watch comes in at. Punches way higher, it’s a great watch. The bracelet alone makes it a winner. Thank you for watching!

Than you for your review. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the rotor? I own this watch for 3 months now and I love all aspects. The only pet peeve might be the noise the rotor makes for me. Curious on your opinion after wearing it for a year.

@@ChristopherNegroni Hey I got it and love it alot however I noticed a MAJOR problem. My quickswitch bracelet will not snap into place securely at neither the 12 or 6 oclock positions. Yours is fine?? I will visit a boutique this weekend to get it examined. Too scared to wear it as it literally willl fall off my wrist at any moment with normal use.

Thank you 🙏🏻 I appreciate your kind words. That’s tough, it’s a fair comparison . I always opt for the Rolex. But the santos is overall a better watch than the OP. Depends, is this a one watch? Do you want that integrated sports watch feel? I would say Cartier’s brand cache is just as great as Rolex, so it’s a close one.

Thanks so much for the insight, Chris! Yeah I agree I’m having a hard time deciding it’s going to be a one only for me. I love the sporty yet classy feel dress up dress down on both of them so I definitely also think they’re very comparable like you said, and there’s definitely more features with the Santos with the bracelet and the easy link system so that’s super hard to beat and I agree with you. I feel like the Cartier name for watches is up there with Rolex. I’m not gonna say it’s better but it’s definitely in the same topic of conversation wouldn’t you say? So are you saying you would probably clean a little bit more towards the Cartier?

Spinel is a type of gemstone that can be found naturally, but in this case the spinel is grown in a lab. Having said that, the spinel used is molecularly identical to a natural one minus the inclusions and cracks that may be found in natural specimens.

I believe you, I’m sure it CAN be found naturally. But Cartier specifically says this is a “synthetic spinel”. Which from your explanation is a lab grown or made spinel that is molecularly identical. So thank you for the explanation.

Cartier look so Cool on a woman and don’t think can be beaten. Ive had a tank and santos but in the end had to concede the dressier style isn’t really my style . fluted date works just fine for me .

@@jmbaug1229 I’ll be honest I do like some of Hermes designs with their watches. I’m not too familiar with this watch but 18kt gold, day date and Moonphase complication, unique design. It’s very different from the Cartier so it depends on what you’re looking for. What do you like about this watch? Do you know who makes the movement in the Hermes?

@@ChristopherNegroni Hermes owns Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier (VMF) (prominent movement producer in 🇨🇭). I love the classic but fun aesthetics of the design. I ❤️ the configuration of the dial and the typography. The piece is also beautiful with blue dial too. From a price point perspective you get a grand complication without breaking your bank account 🤑🙃

@@jmbaug1229 I absolutely see the value. And agree the typography is sexy. The lugs throw me off a bit with its asymmetry. But if you love the watch, get it. All those other points are valid. In a sea of watches that look the same nowadays, this would stand out.

However, I just got the Panthere de Cartier (two-tone) a couple of months ago; not sure if the 2 designs are too similar. What do you think? By the way, I also own a Tank Must since about 35 years ago. I LOVE the brand!

Hello Corrine! Thank you for subbing and watching. I really appreciate it. I’m actually a huge fan of the panthere, excellent choice as the design is actually closer to the original santos that Mr dumont first wore. I think adding a steel santos will give you a sportier option, something you can have more confidence in with day to day activities and getting it wet. I like the three piece Cartier collection with the santos, your modern sporty steel piece, the panthers in two tone a little bit of bling and finesse, and your tank, pure elegance 👌🏼

Hi Christopher, I loved the watch, i had the watch for 2 weeks, in in the end I personally disliked the movement which resulted in a refund. I would wear it daily and hope that my natural movement would wind it till the next day, but it never did. Every morning i needed to sit and wind it to get it going and reset it to the daily time. How's your wife's experience?

Hello! That sucks! Sounds like you unfortunately got one with a faulty movement. Which happens, these are still mechanical movements. I understand it can be frustrating, as these aren’t cheap watches, I would expect it to run flawless. But as far as my wife’s watch, it’s been perfect for almost 3 years now. She wears it all the time. Did the boutique offer a new one at a discount maybe? I would reach out and tell them you’d like to try the watch again but are still frustrated by the experience, they may help you out.

Cartier is no longer your mother’s Cartier. With big investments in their new movement house, I dare say their movements have now surpassed Rolex. Their Skelton models of the Santos are truly amazing. The Crash is simply sick. They have climbed number #2 ahead of Omega. They are just one or two models away from catching Rolex. Cartier is certainly on the move and I am rooting for them.

This will be my first luxury watch purchase one day. Just curious does your wife ever wear gold jewelry and is she able to match it well with this watch? I usually gravitate towards gold but for some reason prefer the steel version of the Santos.

Yes she will wear this watch with her wedding bands which are primarily yellow gold. And also a bracelet on her other hand that is gold as well. No problem mismatching metals. However if you wanted to try on another option, this medium santos comes in two tone yellow gold and steel. Try that out. Little more expensive.

I’m a little disappointed in the synthetic spinel, too, because it’s essentially worthless (high-quality natural is $$$). But it’s like lab vs. natural diamonds - both forms have the same properties. Spinel has a good hardness of 8 (sapphire is 9, diamond is 10) and it’s more sparkly than sapphire so it’s a decent alternative. I do wonder how much more a sapphire would have really added to the cost, though…🤔

Right, that was my gripe. Are they really saving that much more money? We all know the labor and materials to make these watches are well under the retail price. So when I see a corner cut like that from a brand I adore like Cartier it’s a little disappointing. But again, it’s being picky. It’s a great watch

Cartier, pls update this medium size to 38 x 45.4 mm (ML model, perhaps?) that would feel like the goldilocks 38.5 - 40 mm round watch equivalent. That 39.8 x 47.5 looks n feels like a 41 - 42mm round watch. Thanks for the vid, man.

it'd be easier, and pretty cool, to just get a strap for you when you want to wear for it. Then changing it out takes like two seconds.

Just do it! 😆 no but seriously I sense the message may have come across wrong with what I said in the video. Allow me to add a bit of context. Was the purchase spur the moment? Yes I’m the sense that we weren’t planning the purchase that day, but no I’m the sense that the money was set aside for frivolous things beforehand. And that was done with a bit of saving. So hopefully that gives a better picture of the purchase.
