Remember my Hi8 very well in fact i still have it keep it for sentimental reasons with its VHS cassette converter them were the days. great video pal i realy enjoy these type of video's and of coarse its a truck whats not to like.

Did my Class 1 training & test in a DAF wagon & drag back in 2008 around Staffordshire & Derbyshire, haven't had the opportunity to drive one again since which is a shame as I enjoyed it.

we have an 45ft artic trailer for a valtra t173 and we get 36 on and it pull like a dream. the tractor is only 180hp so yea quiet small for it

From what I understand conventional tractors with a maximum speed of 50kph are not permitted to use motorways only dual carrageways. I'm not totally sure but in think it states in the highway code any vehicles that can travel at the minimum speed for motorways which is 40mph and is sprung on all axles may use the motorway so basically that only allows merc unimogs and the digger fastracs.

Nice vid, thanks. I'm surprised they fuel power stations like this, that it's worth burning straw, and that it's economic to truck it in like this. I thought their feedstock would be planted specifically for the purpose, and delivered regularly. Sounds like they buy anything flammable, as and when they feel like it. Cheers again.

A few tricky corners on the A1 once you get into Northumberland and Scotland George. Same with roundabouts. The main issue though is parts of the A1 in Northumberland are single carriageway which means everyone fights to get ahead which means a huge accident and death rate. Are you able to show us footage of the power station delivery or is it a restricted site?

Did you say you were going Ely way? If so I'm surprised I haven't seen a JWB lorry yet, I work on a farm on the edge of Ely. I'm also surprised that they haven't got powershift in lorrys yet either

It's a while since I did my hgv theory but I'm sure there something about vehicles over 4.5m wide being limited to 30 so I guess as long as you're lit up and visible it's ok for tractors....though a bit worrying when everything's flying past haha

I suppose you're running at full height with that load so you're it's going to be a bit of a hand full on the bends. I do a lot of double deck work and they're the same. Good luck on the A14. I try to avoid that stretch between the A1 and Cambridge as most lorries seem to drive like nutters.

George, you say that 95% of your bales go to the power plant .. are the bales you make a "secondary " crop to what you grow or are you growing to make hay? Thanks and cheers from Pennsylvania in the USA..

You should be a lorry driving instructor George. Yesterday at the TL I almost got out and told the young woman behind to get off effin FB. Talking on a phone is one thing, at least you are looking where you're going. No harm on a road with almost no traffic. Nowadays don't use mine in the car at all.....and it's not a smartphone.

Burt Welkerns if it's anything like brigg the unloading cranes are proper slow and abit boring to watch, admittedly when I was there they where still in the testing phase. I was supposed to be going back to fit another load of doors and grills that we made for the place, but it got handed over as operational so I'd have had to do another 3 hr induction course.

Burt Welkerns I'm not an insider as such, I'm a baling contractor same as George's boss John. I was only at brigg as I help a mate out though the winter who's a welder fabricator.

the problem with that type of gearbox is you can forget what gear you are in if you are not concentrating. New drivers find it very difficult to drive with that type of box. Also it is a night mare in traffic.

Do you know of a straw merchant in Suffolk called d.e Keeble I done a couple of seasons with them on chasers and know that they send most of their bales to Ely.

Taken for granted that in normal driving you would go back down through the gears in a similar fashion, but what happens if you have to brake unexpectedly due to some eejit infront of you/dog running out/or whatever and you have to stop immediately - can you just flick back into your usual pull away gear as you would in a car, or would you have to switch splitters somehow? Thanks if you have time to answer.

Eezee Listen depending on weight of load and how much speed u loose ye might have tae drop tae low box or split a gear ma man.

Eezee Listen you can just drop her back down into any gear. On the lorrys we drive 1 split has 1-4 gears and the second split has 5-8 and each has a half gear. So you can change into any gear at any time.

StewysGameplay it's all recorded on your digital tacho card which should be downloaded ever 28 days the only time I would do a manual entry is if I lost my card or was over driving hours for whatever reason the digi tacho basically does all the working out of working hours and that mate

Highway Code Rule 253 Prohibited vehicles. Motorways MUST NOT be used by pedestrians, holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences, riders of motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists, horse riders, certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission), agricultural vehicles, and powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters Pretty sure tractors count as agricultural vehicles, so no, they are not allowed on the motorway

The motorway signs tell you the following must not enter a motorway if; People who do not hold a full driving licence for the category of vehicle they drive, Vehicles incapable of a speed of at least 50km/h, Vehicles with an engine capacity of 50 cc. or less, Invalid-carriages or motorised wheelchairs, Vehicles that do not use inflated tyres; and Cyclists, pedestrians, and animals. So its 50kph or 31mph that you would need a tractor to do to be able to drive on the motorway. Personally i think it would be to dangerous lol.

Same thing as an 18 just take out 4th gear and you get the 12 speed. But this Volvo has 2 crawler gears making it a 14 speed.

I guess you mean if you drive on the right, because the vast majority of people are right handed - I had to laugh (in a nice way) as you sort of imply that all peeps in UK are left handed :) You would have no problem at all driving gears with your left hand or right hand, it would just be a "normal" action. I have driven tour coaches in UK and Europe and had to drive Swiss companies own left hand drive coaches over there, and it is no problem, no difference really, maybe takes 10 minutes to get used to and then you are doing great.
