Here's some footage of a sign i made for my shop! ToolsToday provided me with some awesome Spektra CNC bits for this project that worked wonderfully! I used the 1/4" compression bit (46170-K) as a clearing tool and then the 60° V-Groove bit (RC-1148) to finish off the carving. I then used the compression bit again to run a profile cut with tabs and finished it of by chamfering the outer edges with the v bit! The Sign turned out great and needed no post processing other then removing the tabs! stay tuned for some more cool CNC projects!

Cool. I always prism cut the profile with v bit first then use profile cutout . Saves a tool change .

I'd love to see this as an addition to the channel! The only thing is the CNC is that the CNC is pretty loud and uncomfortable when wearing headphones.

I think the general rule for step over is half the diameter of the bit or less, I used the 1/4” compression bit for the clearance tool.

Who teaches a person to program these machines? You get a pile of programs but we’re does one gain knowledge for the programming, to be wickedly creative.

i guess that's all up to the creator. i've made a lot of simple signs so when i get to make my own custom pieces i tend to try new things and push the limits of my machine!

about 2.5 hours if i remember correctly! i didn't spend much time optimizing my toolpathing as this was just a one off sign! thanks for watching ;)

Do you use vectric? Im using autodesk featurecam to program our cnc router and its really frustrating since its meant for metal cnc mills and lathes.

Kevin Coates yeah this was done with vcarve, I also use fusion 360 for some toolpathing but I prefer the simplicity of the vectrics programs!

When I program lettering on my autocad and run it through the routercim I get circles that dont show up on the drawing but the DO show up on the MCU or at the machine. What causes this?

i've had this happen with stray nodes, you could check your file for that or try using the simplify path command in illustrator to weed out unnecessary nodes. hope that helps

5/8" baltic birch plywood! love this stuff for projects, gives alot of visual interest and is super strong for CNC furniture and stuff!

Beautiful job! But, considering the type of graphic you have dealed with, wouldn't have been easier just cutting the contours of the logo, the contours of the base, and then glueing them together? You'd have saved much more time, energy and wood!
