Crazy, because I just watched a vid about Bob Ross before I watched this video - and I had them opened in different tabs to watch in order. I was thinking that this guy has a way of dealing with things and of talking about them that is just engaging enough without being like "the other guys". Thank you, Car Wizard.

it's typically not the mechanic it's the shop he works for. Electrical problems don't pay well so it's a fix the fucking issue and get it out the door. There's typically very little money in parts so we're forced to kick them out the door as soon as we kind of figure out the issue. Not all of us do high-end work that can subsidize days lost tracing an electrical issue.

Had a first gen neon that would intermittently pop the fuel pump fuse. Checked the pump, checked the wiring, checked the O2 sensor that shared the circuit with the pump, nothing. Finally it hard faulted, once it did that I could see a short to ground on the circuit, started unplugging things until all I had left was wiring and finally was able to find it. The car had been in one of the many Houston floods and at some point the rear seat was removed (presumably to remove the carpets and jute) and during reinstall the harness that runs under the seat was displaced and was chaffing on the bottom of the seat. After I found it, we realized the common factor to when the fuse would pop, was somebody in the back seat. Give me a hard fault any day over an intermittent one!

I really like those switched test relays. It's a common problem for the fan motors to start drawing to many amps. I've changed a few on that generation and earlier Fords. I'VE had them just completely fail and stop turning also. I remember someone in the used car business telling that tip about turning the heater on when your car overheats years ago it's a good tip.

My 09 Crown Victoria recently overheated so I had a different guess, but my experience with Fords and the symptoms you described told me that it WASN'T the leaking or bad heater core that I had. In my case, I did not have a coolant "geyser", I just had a "check engine" light, "water temp" light, and the coolant temperature gauge was nearly at "H".

Electrical issues can be so aggravating, because you can't easily see the problem like with mechanical issues or leaking fluids. Whether I'm working on my house or figuring out a vehicle issue, electrical problems require more logic and thinking. That's a handy little relay switch tool there. I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

Recently I've had two instances where my 2012 GT500 on a warm day (86 degrees) where I was either sitting and idling, or moving in low speed traffic, and.I noticed the temp gauge got to H. I got out and got the car up to speed and after a short time the temp was back in the normal range. Gotta see what's going on and causing this intermittent issue. Great video.

Had overheating issue on a 2006 Mustang GT I bought new. I changed the thermostat and removed the radiator and had it cleaned. No luck. Changed radiator cap. No luck. Bought new fan assembly. No luck. Changed fan relays and no luck. I could start the car and idle it all day in driveway and the fan would kick in and work perfect. However, when I drove it and then stopped and idled it, the fan would not work then. It would not come on then even with the AC turned on and it’s supposed to come on whenever the AC is turned on. I was baffled and so were other people. No codes, nothing! I was about to buy a new computer when I decided to take apart the engine fuse box. There are 3-4 bolts you loosen and then you can lift up the relay holding section. Once I did that I saw that the wire that runs into the high speed fan relay was burned and the plastic connector was burned!! I had to get a new fuse box. I came across other Mustangs 05-09 with the exact same problem. I don’t know what caused that to happen but it was very frustrating. I was researching this issue for hours and hours. Each time it overheated while trying to solve this I would always shut it down right away. It don’t seem like I damaged anything as the car runs and sounds perfect. And these cars actually are designed so that if it was to run completely out of coolant it would go into limp mode. Nonetheless I don’t like the fact that it did get hot a few times. One of the most frustrating car issues I ever encountered! My dad in his mid 60s said he had a lot of vehicles and never had one where he had to change the engine fuse box. Electrical problems can be a nightmare.

@@newfie-dean5803 how did you fix the problem?
@newfie-dean5803
@newfie-dean5803 Жыл бұрын
@@robertswift6101 got a salvage wire harness with the connectors on it that connect into the engine bay fuse box. Got the salvage fuse box too. Cut the connector I needed off this salvage harness and unpinned each wire in it. Then with my burned connector still attached to the car I removed each individual wire from it and re-pinned it to the new connector. I did it wire by wire to keep track of where each wire went. At the end I had all wires removed from the old one and re-pinned into the salvage connector. Doing it this way kept the wiring all original except the one wire to the fan relay that had burned (causing the issue) and had to be spliced in with the same wire cut from the salvage harness. I then installed the salvage box connecting all of the wire harness connectors into the bottom of it. There are 3-4 connectors but I only had one of them burn so that’s the only one that had to be re-pinned with a new connector. The only thing changed on the wiring was that one burned wire spliced in. All other wiring stayed the same and the plastic connector was changed by re-pinning wires to the salvage one as some of the old connector had melted.

Srs,abs seatbelt warning extra etc. navigation turns off if on.but if I start the car with the driver side door closed np problem with the fan runs at normal speed no warnings at all. What I do now is to made sure the driver side door is closed before I start the engine. I don’t know if the passenger side door does the same. I checked google and various Benz forums some drivers describe the same problem but no causes have been found. It’s something with the driver side door being open while starting the engine.

When you said coolant everywhere, i was thinking the intake manifold was leaking coolant which was a common problem. You diagnosed a bad fan, but where did the coolant come from? Did it get so hot, that the hose on the overflow sprayed out coolant to release pressure?

I had a same problem with a car I had , a 2003 Lincoln Towncar before I sold it to a junkyard, fan stopped working they said get a new fan , ok got it then what? They said the new fan didn’t work probably from ECU, ok bought one now what, the ECU got Fried probably from the wire harness I got sick of it it sold it to a junkyard and then got a new car, A 2015 Chevy Impala LTZ and I love it , later on I heard from a friend that knows the junkyard owner that The Lincoln Has been fixed in his shop and sold it immediately and now it’s in the roads again!

The guy said coolant was coming out. Where was it coming from? Overflow bottle? And on my car, the heater valves fail all the time, so I have a modified coolant hose in the car that just jams the engine heater output straight back into the input.

one time my car was overheating while sitting idle in traffic but once it started moving the temp would fall back to normal again. It was at night and I was far away from any mechanic. It got to a point where it would overheat within minutes of driving. Upon opening the hood the problem was clear: There was a tiny hole on the radiator spewing coolant very slowly. Ran to a nearby store got a couple of eggs, used the egg white method, topped it up with water and it never overheated again until I got the car to a mechanic.

I had similar problem with coolant fan and with heater fan. Coolant fan destroyed relay for 1st speed. Heater fan dint had fuse so wires started to melt. In both cases it was the problem with the motor started to seize up. Solution to both problems was greasing the fans. They somehow went dry over the years.
