13:20 about the heat pump. In a fridge, the heat pump pulls heat energy from inside the fridge and dumps it outside (which is why the back of a fridge is always warm). So it’s just a question of which side of the system you want. If you’re using it for heating your car, you take heat energy from outside (or waste heat from the battery and motors) and move it inside the cabin. Heat pumps can pull energy from outside air as cold -10°C. Below that, the resistive heater will have to come on.

So here’s my experience, my father and I are car enthusiast we’ve both owned and driven many very nice/high-performance vehicles. My father has been considering buying a Tesla for quite some time yesterday my father and I decided to test drive the model Y long range/and performance by the end of the test drive, we were both completely blown away and we were both under the impression we just drove the best vehicle available today last night after the test drive he bought one /ordered it. It’s truly unbelievable

Hello, how was the performance difftence of the long range and the performance?
@larryfishkind5387
@larryfishkind5387 Жыл бұрын
@@mehmetaltunkaya1827 There was a noticeable difference between the two with that being said, the long range is incredibly fast and a whole lot faster than 90% of the vehicles on the road. The performance definitely gives you a bit more, but to be honest the performance from the long range was more than enough, and this is coming from somebody who’s owned motorcycles and plenty of fast vehicles in my opinion. Long range is the way to go. My suggestion is for you go to Tesla, they offer test drives in any vehicle you’re interested in with no pressure go test them out and decide for yourself.

@@larryfishkind5387I had the exact same experience with my wife. Had a badass ‘21 Camaro LT1 and we were looking at getting something more family friendly for our future. We looked at the model Y in October after the massive price cuts and went to test drive one. Coming from the Camaro I wanted the performance. Of course, but my wife was hesitant. So we settled with the long range for the first test drive, and planned on coming back and trying the performance after. Got on the freeway, and hit it. Holy shit we were completely blown away with how fast that thing was. And it drove amazing, everything about it. Feels like you’re driving a car from the future. Went back and the Tesla rep was like, alright you ready for the performance? I’m like NOPE. Lmfao Honestly believe it’s the best car money can buy right now. For the price range of course, not comparing anything to a G-wagon 😂

For those who are interested, a refrigeration/heat pump system is based on a thermodynamic concept known as Carnot Cycle. This is the concept that work can be extracted from a process of heat transfer from a hot source and a cold source. For a refrigeration system, this is a reverse Carnot cycle system which consists of 4 components and a working fluid. The working fluid in both refrigeration and heat pump cycles is known as a refrigerant (e.g. r-134a, r-1234yf, etc). These fluids are used due to their low boiling point. Components: 1. Compressor 2. Condensor 3. Throttle Expansion Valve 4. Evaporator Refrigeration Cycle (See link): 1-2: The working fluid (refrigerant) is compressed from a vapour into the superheated vapour region, increasing the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant far beyond the surrounding temperature. Work is input into the system through the pump. 2-3: The superheated vapour then travels through a condenser which rejects heat into the environment, condensing the superheated vapour into a liquid state. In a refrigerator, this is the element which is located behind the fridge. 3-4: The liquid then enters the throttle valve which causes a large drop in pressure, rapidly decreasing the temperature of the working fluid and also causes the working fluid to become a saturated liquid-vapour mixture. 4-1: The cooled refrigerant can now flow through an evaporator which absorbs the heat from the refrigerated space, returning the working fluid to a vapour phase. This is located inside the fridge system and is what reduces the temperature inside the fridge. Heat Pump Cycle: This is literally the reverse. You use the condenser to heat up the air, which you can now circulate inside the car. This will use less energy than an electric element due to the lower power input of a pump, which is the only energy input to the system required. Refrigeration Cycle: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pump#/media/File:Refrigeration_PV_diagram.svg

I'm an ME (Mechanical engineer) and the way you described a heat pump is perfect. it's a reverse refrigerator/AC system. The underlying principle behind a heat pump is that boiling a liquid (turning it into gas) takes a lot of heat energy and stores it in the liquid and condensing a liquid (turning it form a gas to liquid) takes heat out of the liquid and emits it to the local area. to control whether the gas/liquid wants to boil or condense at a given temperature all that's necessary is to control the pressure. low pressure makes liquids want to boil, and high pressure makes the liquid want to condense. so on the "outside" the liquid is kept to a low pressure, making the liquid boil, taking heat energy out of the area outside the car. the liquid is then moved to another chamber inside the car where the pressure is increased. this makes the gas condense into a liquid. The heat that was transferred to the fluid when it boiled is now transferred inside the car. So what the heat pump is doing is cooling the air outside the car to heat up the air inside the car. The reason this is more efficient that using a resistive heater is because all the heat that warms the cabin has to come from the electricity to heat the resistive coil. A heat pump gets most of it's heat from the air outside the car that it's cooling off. the energy drain on the battery is actually just the Mechanical energy used to compress the and move the fluid around. Which is way less power, and it means you lose a lot less range when the temperature dips.

The principle of heating pumps is that you use compression and expansion to increase or decrease the temperature of a heating medium (typically a HFC-solution) more than the ambient temperature would. Basically, you have a closed loop, filled with HFC. Part of that, called an evaporator, has a very low pressure, which means that the HFC will boil and become a gas at very low temperatures. In this stage, the HFC absorbs heat. Then, the HFC passes a compressor. This increases the pressure, which both increases the temperature of the HFC, and turns it back into a fluid. Now, the hot HFC passes into a part called the condenser, where it drains its heat into the environment. Finally, the now chilled HFC passes into an expansion valve, where it drops in temperature and returns to a gaseous for due to lower pressure. Then the cycle repeats. Depending on what you want to do, you place the evaporator and the condenser on different parts of your system. If the evaporator is inside, and the condenser is outside, you'll cool what's inside. It's a fridge. If the evaporator is outside and the condenser is inside, you'll heat what's inside. It's a heating pump. There's your basic breakdown of compressor technology for you, Mat!

@@bighands69 funny enough, except for some charging related Software issues which have since been fixed, the Chinese Model 3 are of much better quality then the American models. reverse refrigeration : we compress optimal gas and compression produces heat (unlike electric heating which is complete loss of energy, in refrigeration technique it this compressed energy can be use to cool also)
@mitko456
@mitko456 3 жыл бұрын
I am sure that heat pump question was just a bait and a joke but here is my shot at explaining in layman’s terms: simple electric heater would use 1kwh electricity to deliver 1kwh heat (3.6MJ), heat pump would use 3-4times less electric energy to deliver the same heat so say 0.3kwh. Gas is used that can be compressed with the pump and thus the temperature would rise. The compressed side is the hot side. The hot side is used to blow hot air in the car and by doing so, cooling the hot side of the heat pump system. Then the gas is let to expand on the cold side. The expanded gas has very low temperature because heat was already taken from it when it was compressed to heat the car. The expanded gas temp. is much lower than the outside air so it can absorb heat from outside and then be compressed again to the hot side and so on. Heat pump is much more complex device than a simple resistive heater though.

Something like a reverse refrigerator? Start by looking up "Peltier chips", they can be used for heating, reverse the polarity and now they cool, very cold in fact. And you can also use them to turn heat into electricity. And the nice bit about them is you can buy them starting at under $3 Canadian for the 12v 3amp models and they make bigger ones as well. You will find them in coolers that can also keep food warm by plugging them into your lighter socket. That's the first thing that comes to mine anyway. If you are in a pinch you can make a fridge from Styrofoam Gorilla Glue and a couple of heat sinks using this chip and it gets cold! Takes about 20 min to build and is handy when your fridge breaks down or you are camping, don't reverse the polarity though or your fridge will melt.

Love Mat's reviews... He's always complaining about the gloveblox. There's a quite clever reason for not opening the gloveblox pressing a button. It's for safety reasons. This way Sentry's mode USB flash drive is safe from intruders. Menu's can change frequently and some buttons can be hard to find though, but you can always use voice commands. Also adjusting mirrors is a thing you setup once for your profile, that is loaded based on the phone that opened the car. You can also adjust mirrors to behave differently when reversing. Have my Model 3 for almost 2 years now and so far no regrets.

I have a Tesla. love it. It hauls. No one will even try and drag me. (Which sucks). I’m never going back to ICE engines. I do all my own maintenance and knowing I can flog my Tesla from cold and basically don’t have to stress about engine gearbox, driveline and brake maintenance is literally the best feeling. Oh, and done 30,000km off my own solar, and never HAD to stop for a charge… I’m WAAAAAAAAAAY up (if you like to argue that charging is inconvenient). You would have stopped at a servo over 50 times by now assuming your ICE car gets 600km from a tank. (Assuming an average fuel stop takes 8 mins, that’s 400 mins credit I have for the day I DO have to stop to charge on a road trip - for which I have cafe’s, games and Netflix) but it will charge at over 1200km/h charge rate on all my local super chargers….. so maybe 30 mins max stop time remembering I can finish my charge at my destination. ICE engines are at their engineering peak of power and economy… meanwhile batteries are only going to get larger capacity and lighter… there is only faster and better performance ahead for EV’s.
