Hey Mat Your videos are absolutely amazing. Your humor is great and the bandwidth of the videos (from cheap to outrageously expensive) is awesome. What I would still find cool, especially with the more expensive cars, is a night shot. Both from the outside (headlights and such), but also from the inside. For example, the new Volkswagen Touarg from the inside with ambient lighting looks breathtaking. Surely many of your followers would like to see this as well. Just such an idea ! Keep up the good work.

I own a mk7 GTI only talk what you know. But still correct. the mk7 is one of the best cars of this decade for that reason I may not upgrade it to the mk8 because its may not be a huge increase in performace. But the best car for the money inside and out as well as performance.

Quite expensive for a 40bhp bump with skirts and seats. People who tend to buy GTIs want understated, slick at everything with good kerbside appeal. Looks wise it comes over as a little loud. People who want a more dynamic experience with the fast and furious looks will just go for the Honda or Renault. Not quite sure what VW were trying to do. Personally would save some money and go for a Performance Pack with a remap. Plus could spec a manual if you choose. Kind of stepping on the toes of the M140i where you can get some good deals.

I like the updated looks. still looks understated but a tad more aggressive. But I dont understand why you still wouldnt get a golf R though, its faster and has all wheel drive, I guess its for people who like the driving dynamics of a front wheel drive, but still no reason as to why you cant take your golf R to track. I personally would like a TCR edition of the golf R with like 350hp and some body kit and removed weight. But who knows, MK 8 golfs are coming soon so who know whats in store for the GTI and R, plus rumours of a 5 cylinder.

GTFREAK not complaining about the fact that it’s a good car. It’s just the price. After options it’s pushing near £40k..want more power get an R and that has AWD. However the R for me doesn’t look as good. Most people who buy GTIs aren’t really fussed with track days. That’s kind of what the Clubsport was for. I love my Mk 7.5 Gti but just feel the tcr is a lot of money that’s all.

Harrison Sloan pretty sure they have already confirmed the power plants as 232 bhp , 286 bhp and 325bhp for the R . No 5 cylinders unfortunately.

Couldn’t of said it better myself. I would save money and buy a focus st. It has a tiny bit less power but for a much more affordable price. Not to mention that the St is a manual only which makes it more fun to drive

I've owned a MK3 GTI 2.0L, MK4 GTI 1.8T, MK5 GTI 2.0L, and now a MK7 GTI 2.0L PP (auto). While the MK7 is by far the most refined and capable car of the bunch, the simple MK3 was by far the most fun to drive. No electronic nannies, no traction control, hydraulic clutch, cable throttle, 5 speed, decent brakes, not too much power... just the right elements to make an everyday sporty car super fun.

My TE Cortina 3.3 litre 6cyl did the 1/4 mile/400metre in 12.98 back in the early 1980's. It was an awesome Sleeper...........which blew away a lot of V8's :D

I've own owned every Golf GTI but the 3 and 4, I am now in the 2018 Golf R. The best of them all is the Mk5 Ed30, it was just perfect. IMO

Majinvash the mk5 is the only Golf that can be classed as hideous looking. Nothing about the mk5 was good to look at. I have a facelifted Mk7 R and a Mk4 R32. The 2 best looking, and best feeling Golfs ever made.

I have a modified Golf MK7 R. It runs just over 500hp using Revo stage 3 hardware and software. 0-60 sub 3 seconds. For the price of a brand new TCR you could purchase a 3 year old Golf MK7 R spend a few grand on it and the result is a super car killer for the same price...........

I'd actually spend less and get the standard Golf GTI. I can have that with a manual as well. Also, I think the Golf GTI (and R) is one of the nicest looking hot hatches right now. There are others that look more striking and in-your-face (Civic Type R, Megane RS) but after a few years those will look dated while the Golf will still look nice.

dude what TCR success? 2018 was fail for teams using VW Golf TCR. Best in Europe position was 8th in drivers standings, 6th in teams. In WTCR they got owned by i30N TCR. Loeb Racing Team using Golf TCR finished 4th, in drivers standing ended 8th. Say no more...

I understand why you would take this over the golf r. This car sits on the more aggressive, track focused side of the gti after the original and performance variants . It's pretty much a front wheel drive golf r. The golf r is more focused to be an overall package for daily drivability while this is aimed at being a tracked focused monster inspired by the tcr race car. This car will probably be the same price as the golf r in Australia once it comes here but I love my front wheel drive cars and I would definently take it over the golf r as I do occasionally enjoy track days and crazy drives which is what this car was intended to do.

They've had plastic, well GFRP, oil pans since the Mk7 came out in 2013. I was dubious about durability at first but they seem to be holding up - they don't appear to be any less durable than the normal aluminium pans, which can crack just as easily upon a heavy impact. As it's GFRP - glass fiber reinforced plastic it doesn't shatter or crack in the same way as ordinary hard plastics, it does have a behaviour similar to that of aluminium.

You make no sense. This car is fwd. 0/60 in 5.3 is bloody fast. It doesn’t have 4wd. So lighter and faster around corners. Take it to a track and the r would probs loose to a stock gti. You would only buy the r if it’s very wet all the time or your a shit driver that wants to cars aids to make you look better at driving.

Pointless car. No manual No actual weight reduction No actual decent exhaust Not even actual sport seats Is just a 3 door hatchback with some some brake, tune, small body parts. Still prefer the Golf R with a manual gearbox.

norafirestorm I’ve driven plenty versions of both. Same platform drives pretty much the same except the cupra is filled with much more cheap plastic bits.

@@MrOpticBlade your wrong, traded in my Mk7 Golf R for a Cupra 300, the level of plasticness is identical, infact I'd go as far as saying the Leon is screwed together better, waaay less rattles in it than the golf! Plus the Golfs silly font used in the displays drove me crazy, something a 13 year old would choose!
