Previously Guts had to choose between protecting Casca or revenge but now Griffith has made the mistake of making the black swordsman choose both.

Can you imagine how painful it’s going to be for Casca to be in Falconia?? The brand reacts to the presence of apostles with pain and bleeding. There is a literal army of them there. Just being close to Griffith caused the brand to react so strongly that Gutts almost passed out once. I wonder if there will be any problems amongst the demon ranks when Griffith shows up with a branded sacrifice.

If Miura hired these artists to assist him, it means he trusted them. And if he trusted them..I do also.

I’m just impressed they’ve delivered a high quality product on a monthly basis that still feels true to Berserk. We’re only four issues in post-Miura, and the team has already grown more confident with the storytelling and art. I’m sure these will only get better as time goes on. Taking on creative control of such a beloved manga is no easy feat, but the fact the team had the courage and ability to continue this story is really impressive.

Having Casca interact with Charlotte or Sonia is very dangerous to Griffiths plan, Sonia could read her mind through one of her panic attacks, and Charlotte has met her before, and already knows Griffith isn't on good terms with old Hawk members.

I have a feeling that we're going to have some Casca-centric chapters in the future, just like we had a few Rickert-centric chapters a while back. I'm looking forward to that. It's going to be interesting to see how Casca deals with all the things she's going to remember and realize.

The art is good enough that, if you got a first time reader who knew nothing about Miura's passing, they would not be able to tell which chapter Studio Gaga took over. Even under Miura, Berserk's art style evolved and shifted so much that one arc is barely recognizable compared to the other. Even major shifts within the same arc like when Miura went digital. I see this shift as another stage of that evolution. One positive change for example is that the newer art style is a lot more reminiscent of Conviction arc, and feels like a return to roots.

I think in the next few chapters we might see guts, in the activated berserker armour, fighting off the waves of spirits(?) around him. But he won’t just be fighting these spirits but I think he will be fighting the beast of darkness itself? Maybe? The will of man has been put to the ultimate test in this moment and if guts can defeat essentially himself, maybe it will grant him a new level of power to defeat or at least stand a slight chance against the godhand themselves

The concept of a “Two Towers”-esque arc where everyone disbands and then reconciles at the very end does sound totally cool, and if that is to be the case and Guts and Puck are left alone together once again, I do hope that Puck has at least one heartfelt moment or talk with Guts as opposed to the perpetual comic-relief funk he was kind of in before Miura-Sensei’s passing

I actually love where the story is going. I’m looking forward to seeing sane Casca interacting with Griffith, and how she will react. I’m very hopeful for future chapters

I want to see Casca slap Griffith when she wakes up and he just has to stand there and take it.

The fact we will receive a true ending of berserk and the team at forefront are all extremely passionate keeping to the art and story of Miura should be all people need. People are so ungrateful

Caca being in Falconia is actually brilliant. The chapters where we check in on Griffith were always a disappointing slog to get through because they would take us away from the main story.. particularly Casca's story at the time of Elfhelm. But now Casca IS the story in Falconia. So that side of things just got a lot more interesting.

This is the biggest opportunity to give casca a proper redemption in her learning to overcome her trauma on her own after having the help of others bring her mind back. I don’t understand the “oh great another casca rescue arc again” complaints. First off there was only 1 and that arc was a lot more than just rescuing casca. Second I’m actually really excited to see how casca reacts to the situation she’s in and hopefully this leads to great character development for her. I hope I don’t eat my words but Casca going right back to her oooo ooo state after all that effort restoring her mind just seems so unlikely. I don’t get how that’s what people think is going to happen.

Here’s a more interesting question. Casca is a sacrifice due to Griffith. Griffith is now protecting Casca. Will this cause conflict between him and the remaining godhand?

You know, when Casca got her life back, that was pretty much the end of the journey for Guts. Griffith appearing and kidnapping Casca is now the next plot beat to put Guts in his next step of his journey. A direct confrontation against griffith and maybe the god hand.

All I can truly say is that in the end Mr.Miura is truly blessed to have a Great Freind like Mr.Mori. RIP Kentaro Miura

One thing I've not seen anyone mention about Casca heading to Falconia is the fact that she is still branded as a sacrifice and is heading to Apostle City. I highly doubt that she'll die or anything but I don't believe that she'll be allowed to essentially roam free because of that. If what you say about Casca being Griffith's weakness due to the Moonlight Boy's influence ends up being true; then I highly doubt that any Apostle or demon will even come remotely near her. Another thing I could see happening is Casca revealing to Charlotte what actually happened after The Hawks escaped Windham. I believe that this could be the start of Griffith's dream collapsing on him (again lol) with Charlotte finally knowing that Griffith is not the man she fell in love with, but is in fact a member of the Godhand and finally learning that he is a horrible being that has committed unspeakable acts.

I’m 35 and started reading berserk when I was 14. Can’t really say I’m OG but these newer generation of manga readers who is point by choice and accessibility needs to stop acting like professional critique…. Have your opinions but stop thinking it’s always right. Ryan, keep up the good work👍

I think these chapters have been great, but I have lost so many brain cells looking at Casca theories. One person said she would become an apostle and serve alongside Griffith.

Mori's first instinct was to reveal the ending in an interview, or release the plot in articles with spot illustrations. When Miura died, Hakusensha said the future was uncertain, when 364 was published in September, the same was said, and when Volume 41 was printed at the end of last year, the same was said. Mori did not rush into continuing the story. He sat with the decision for months, and decided that not just a manga presentation, but continuing the actual manga was the best way to proceed. Either he or Hakusensha could have given the series a subtitle, which in creating distance, would have also given more deflection from criticism. Neither chose that, which says that Mori, Studio Gaga and Hakusensha are all confident enough in what they are producing that it still deserves to stand beside Miura's work. Mori knows enough of the plot to tell the story. I fully expect some chapters will move quicker because of Mori's refusal to embellish what Miura told him, but I do not understand the people writing off the new team for these few dialogue-sparse, conflict-heavy chapters.

So true, Ryan! Everybody is entitled to their opinions and that's fine, but guys, understand this is our best case scenario. I guarantee everybody wanted Miura here with us to finish this and I don't mean to be harsh but Miura is dead, sucks but that's the best case scenario they respect his passing last year, we got his best life long best friend to move his awesome legacy and his apprentices, I'm sorry but no one other than these guys are more qualified to finish this, not me, not you. I saw on Twitter a big artist I really love basically tearing down "but miura" dude, sorry we know this, but as an artist as well you should know Miura was one of a kind and understand these people have big shoes they will never fit but they are still doing it. Casca being in Falconia is easily the best thing that could happen for exploring and continuing the character after such a massive event. If she stayed in Elfhiem as if Griffith never took her then she would simply be spending the whole time fighting or fleeing the destruction while we would get very little of her character. Now there is a big chance of her being unrestrained and seeing Falconia through her eyes while she learns more about herself, what she wants to do next and Guts

Even Miura cannot replicate himself from years past, because he was an evolving artist always improving. All i want is the art to look like the characters in an honorable way and to not disrespect Miura's work

As long as the plot follows through logically and coherently then Mori will have done well.

The too much action argument is stupid

The art of manga and anime are probably the greatest things I've ever experienced. So much breath and stories I've seen it's insane.

Thank you for making this one Ryan. I was feeling a little bit anxious about Casca, since she's a very dear character to me. But some of the things you said really make sense, like her and Griffith having a conversation (which I do feel is necessary before the end) and Puck and Guts being together again for the final arc, which I'd personally love. You helped dissuade some of my fears and I hope more people see this one :)

I remember when the continuation of Berserk was announced and I wasn't sure how I felt. I went into chapter 365... and it was Berserk, I recognized it wasn't Miura but I looked at it and it was Berserk, I kept reading the chapters that were released following that one and it was Berserk.

Berserk is such a good story that when I saw the panels of casca being taken away and guts look of sadness, I was in a sad mood all day. I could barely crack a smile. That's a good story

Those people who complain just do it for attention. I'm excited with how things are going. We have so much things to look forward to in the future. Casca will have a big role in Falconia. It have so much things I want to find out about still.

I think they replicate his art to a freaking tea. Going back and looking at some of the pages from Fantasia and even Millennium Empire I can't really see it a difference... And that's surprising to me. Because they're putting out these chapters so freaking quick. I think they're absolutely doing an amazing job. I think you're finally learning Ryan just how the world is. People complain about every fucking thing they always have and they always will. That's why you shouldn't give a shit when people complain cuz ultimately it's nonsense.

Also i think were going to get alot more Casca interacting with other people. shes been "gone" from the story for so long that i think her talking with the people in falconia and seeing whats going on is super interesting. This could be setting up a situation where she takes Grifith down from the inside so to speak and my boy Guts takes him out from the outside. no matter what happenes i will read it and i will enjoy it.

Honestly we did need a Caska chapter. She will remember, her baby is mixed with Griff and we really didn’t know what she wanted. These all have to be resolved to wrap up the story.

Great video Ryan but I highly doubt Casca being in Falconia will stop the moonlight boy from leaving Falconia and visiting Guts via the branches of the world tree. The boy loves both of his parents and has saved them both many times throughout the manga as both the demon baby and moonlight boy .The boy even played with Guts in chapter 364. So I doubt the boy will abandon his father now that his mother is in falconia.

On a semi related note I both love and hate that Elfheim is beneath the surface possibly even more dark and miserable than the rest of the world. It feels like a but of a cheapshot, but at the same time DOES call back to the Irish Book of Invasions and their myths in general where the land has been conquered many times, and before the Tuathe de Danann there were other, darker beings like the Fomorians.

I have nothing but praise for the hard work everyone has done on these chapters. I also think you bring up great points that make sense. People seem to be jumping to conclusions with not enough information given yet.

So many people question why did Griffith took Casca? I have a couple of theories how this story will continue. 1.Griffith took Casca because of the Moonlight boy. He cannot control this aspect of his body, and the Moonlight boy will try to return to Casca. If Casca is in Falconia, Griffith wont leave Falconia every month. His main conflict would be to keep this a secret. 2. Guts will realize he cant do anything to Griffith. But there is one thing he overlooks, that Griffith is vulnerable once every month. Yes, im talking about the Moonlight boy again. Guts could be targeting the Moonlight boy to kill Griffith, but this could ignite a conflict between him and Casca, as Im not sure if Casca knows about the boy being Griffith. 3. Guts probably will have to face the dilemma of leaving his team again. Even though they are trustworthy, they are not used to fighting apostles, so he probably wouldnt want them to die. But as the current state of the world stands, they are safer with him. 4. We have yet to see Rickert arriving to the Bakiraaka village, maybe Miura wanted to have him become a hero-just-in-time at some point. Edit: typo

Hey, the way I look at it, I'm here for the story. That's what matters the most if you genuinely care about berserk. I've seen very few people complain about the art being garbage, and they should take a step down and get a coloring picture book instead.

Oh my god thank you , this is exactly what I thought and I’m so glad you got it and posted this video as I was super disappointed at some popular berserk fandom figures calling this “damsel in distress” a bad plot point. I completely agree on what you pointed but allow me to add something as a person who’s a fan of Miura for decades and also a fan of all classic fantasy fiction. Kentaro Miura’s understanding of fantasy tropes is so mind blowingly on the point yet so unique, this is how I immediately knew kouji mori did the vision justice because this segment of the story is perfectly how Miura takes a fantasy trope and project it with his own way. As in the hero’s love is taken to a castle or dungeon and he has to save her , or if you’re gonna go big brain you can even say griffith carrying casca is a twisted form of the hero in shining armor , either way it has a respectful weight for the genre and I can immediately tell this is perfectly in Miura’s vision One great subtext of this is also guts having to confront all the darkness , meaning guts can’t abandon his revenge and sit in elfhelm and live peacefully with casca , it’s just not happening cuz griffith eventually would’ve ruined it for him yet again and this happened so many times in the story although none direct in some (in floras house , conviction saga for example) It’s necessary for guts to confront griffith for the last time so this whole conflict could end , but this time it’s gonna be the opposite where guts will actively chase him for a reason other than bloody revenge, it’s now for casca and finally being free of suffering. Sorry for the long text I’m just hyped about recent events and your vid is awesome, best of luck my man.

I think disrespect to Mori or Studio Gaga is really upsetting. Yes Berserk changed our lives and we miss Miura but Berserk also changed their lives. And on top of that they knew Miura and were close to him. His passing no doubt has a much more profound impact on them as people than it does us. Not only is finishing the story a way to honor Miura and his work, but it is also a way for them to work through the grief of losing their mentor and friend.

About the points you made about the art in berserk, there is one thing that I always loved about Miura's era of berserk: How he drew the closeup of the eyes and the faces of his characters. I don't know what it is, but Miura knew how to capture the complex emotions that flash through the faces and eyes of people in real life and he made it ino a mesmerizing kit in his already great art style. In fact, one of the few fears I had when Berserk came back is how the studio would capture that. However with close ups for character faces seen in chapters 365 and 368, my fear for this series being in good hands was finally led to rest. It's not a perfect replica, it will never be, but it's how the new artist still give Berserk's characters expressions of despair and brokenness that made me respect them for what they are doing.

The art is a non-issue, yeah no shit it's not Miura, it's still his assistants which he trusted. And it's still better than most manga out there. What is Casca supposed to do? She was in shock and passed out, even if she was awake, Guts couldn't touch Griffith. I like the theory that Casca will meet Luca and the girls, I guess she will have some freedom to explore Falconia, but will be restricted when the full moon comes. Never thought about the crew being separated, I was just assuming they would all escape together on the boat but thinking more about it, yeah that seems difficult. Wondering who will Guts be partnered with, just alone with Puck again? I think it would make more sense with the progress Guts made as a person, to still be with and rely on someone. Guts will probably meet with Rickert's crew eventually, really curious to see how that turns out.

The BCS ending was beautiful man. Didn't expect them to redeem him in any way but I was pleasantly surprised by how well they executed it. Can't wait for the video man

I feel like Rickert escaping Falconia is the first set up of the falling dominos, one of them going to eventually meet Rickert and the meeting is going to be one of the major plot point. Maybe they devise a plan to spread the message of true horror of what Griffith's did walking down the road to forming Falconia.

MY heart broke again for Guts and Casca to see her being taken away by Griffith again after what he did to her is the worse that could happen. Guts expression is one of sadness because in his heart he feels like he fail the one person who really cared for him. Moon child will keep Casca safe from Griffith but now that she knows that Griffith is Moon child this will create another crisis for her. Charlotte may be of help to her in Falconia and also Luca if they run into each-other again but we will see. Another thing that may happen is Griffith somehow takes off the Brand of sacrifice from her which would give Guts peace of mind not saying that he would do that just to make Guts happy but just to keep the demons away. The reason for Griffith taking her is to stop himself from randomly disappearing to where she is in the world and now at Falconia that wont happen she is Griffith's only vulnerability because of the Moon child inside him. In the childs form maybe he is mortal and what better way to protect himself from Guts and Skull Knight than by using Casca's love for her child as a shield. So many scenarios that come to mind we will see.

Man, just the idea of the manga having an ending and that we can know what Miura had in mind makes me happy. Maybe I would be happy with only the manuscript of what should happen, but since someone is doing the manga, hey, perfect then.

I think Griffith will be the one to heal Casca’s mind with his powers somehow but I don’t think it will change how she feels about him.

I think the relationship between Casca and Sonia will be important, if they meet. What will happen if she reads her mind?

I predict Casca will somehow meet up with good old Luca in Falconia.

One thing that just popped into my head is that, it will take time for the crew to go and get to Falconia you know? Since they are now in Elfhelm I wonder how much time will go by until they can reach Casca again? I think this is a really interesting turn of events and will put the characters in a very complex predicament.

Technically it hasn’t been that long since Casca was healed by Farnese and Schrieke. Casca like Guts is still suffering from ptsd,also Casca is on the first level of getting better. Also someone tell me how is a unconscious person supposed to fight a God. Trust me I want Golden Age Casca too but it won’t make sense if Casca was able to get a hit on Griffith but Guts isn’t.

Never has any piece of media made me actually feel so much emotion and worry for characters I have complete faith in kouji Mori and the fact there's high anxiety about cascas fate proves how well written berserk is

Agree and adding to your analysis, I think this next portion will be focused on Casca confronting and overcoming her trauma. The story already hinted to us that Guts is at his limits and is in need of some backstage time. Remember during his sword practice in elf island he actually lost grip of his sword and his eyesight is further deteriorating. When their enemy is deep in the ether world, there is a huge gap between what the characters are capable of now and the victory that they sought. I'm guessing the blacksmith and elf queen will play a part in bridging that gap, and possibly bringing Guts back to a somewhat refreshed form. Or maybe a fortified Casca will save Guts this time :D

I am with you on the Caska not being a damsel in Distress. I think it would make way more sense for to be a demsel if was still "out of her mind", but now that the story concluded that journey, it's only natural we see how she would react to the situation in more active way as character. The story was building up to this moment for a long time.

told a friend to read bezerk he said too much dialogue, then i told him there is a good amount of bloody battles that are unmatched by anything else. i even got to thinking of that whole wyld thing and just how he would of loved the fucking savageness of the whole thing. he rejects it as a fact and then says he would read all the dialogue if it was good i quote " nah i can read alot of dialogue just when that shit aint boring." reminds me of the people who complain about casca being a damsel in distress, just want to look at it from their angle and refuse to accept there are a whole nother 359 degrees they could take before they make a cirlce.

I think, given the fact that we were literally just shown that a competent witch can delve into her memories, I would be surprised if Sonia doesn't just do that because she doesn't trust casca (which I think would mainly happen because of her being unable to admit her jealousy)

I'm very curious how Casca and Sonia will interact. I kinda saw Sonia and Casca as playing similar roles in their respective incarnation of the Hawks. Both want to be as close to Griffith as possible, compensating their lack of royal lineage with battlefield utility. And as someone mentioned below, Sonia could view Casca's memories and see what her future could hold if she gets too close to Griffith.

@3:01 i feel like the lack of dialog suits whats happening not only the action but guts has been more and more silent leading up to this,(mostly because hes putting everything he has on a chance to fix casca, and not only that but draining himself and literally killing himself in the armor along the way) this time heading to the isalnd he's focused on one objective(her) nothing eles matters whats there to talk about and now more than ever having her ripped away hes not one to voice his feeling and say outloud "im sad" or to say the others or some shit your just supposed to know as the reader his scilence on the journey to the island was his doubt his hope that it works out in the end and was worth everything up to this in that armor. this chapter seeing guts react to whats going on is 1000 times more sincere and heartfelt than if he had to fell to his knees and have some inner dialog sap story like demondslayer. its suposed to be indecribale how he feels just pure shock being flipped on his head
