At the 2019 Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN we watched the only Case 150 tractor in the world demonstrate it's power on the Prony Brake. Impressive machine that was built by Kory Anderson. Info links below.

Very impressive!! At 200 RPM's it would have been 180 HP. (200 X 4725 ft=lbs) / 5250 = 180HP The Engine did not seem to be working that hard at 900 pounds on the scale.

Does your brake have the capability to get any more horsepower out of the 150?

That prony brake is owned by WMSTR and it bottoms out at 1000lbs, but with different weights on the scale you can get more than 1000lbs and they were at only 900lbs on the scale before the belt became too dangerous to go farther. The finale numbers I believe were 171hp and over 5000ft-lbs of torque and the engine had a lot more in it than that.

Brett is correct. We had more room to go on the scale. When we got to 950 lbs on the scale the frequency of the power pulses appears to be just right to cause the belt to form a nice standing wave and the belt really started to hop.We tried going to 1000 lbs again, at 950 lbs the belt was hopping again. At that point we had not broken anything and no one was hurt, so we decided to stop.

Another follow up on amount how much force the scale on the Red Brake can measure. The full sweep on the needle is 1000 lbs. Sliding weights can add another 600 lbs of capacity. If the other components could put up with it, the Red Brake could measure 1600lbs X 5.25ft = 8400 ft-lb of torque.

The lever arm on the Red Brake is 5.25 ft long. Torque = Force X length of the lever arm. 950 lb X 5.25 ft = 4988 ft-lb of torque.

@@BillTheTractorMan No doubt the belt was slipping. But if the governor was working correctly, the engine's rpm would've stayed higher whilst the belt slips.
