I am the Hemlock Case Guy. I have become highly skilled in these, the greatest garden tractors ever to be made. With that, there is special knowledge needed to keep them operating as intended. I am NOT a dealer, I am not a collector, I buy parts and pay sales tax when I use them.
If I had a crane I still would not drop my Case tractor from it as was done on a TV commercial back in the day. But, I could and almost all other garden tractors could not.

Thanks so much for this! I had one on pieces and needed to know how the pulleys were orientated (extended hub side up or down)

Looks like you're using a pneumatic air hammer with a tapered punch. Very effective on pulley removal.

I had a 1984, I believe, Case IH 220 with the 10 hp Kohler and a 38" left discharge deck. That was the loudest deck I ever mowed with. That little tractor was a brute. I pulled a bobcat trailer (empty) up my steep driveway and about 1/8 mile up a steep road. It didn't bat an eye. Did have some issue stopping though. The brakes on those things were not the greatest. Retarding the hydraulics just caused the tractor to slide. Some white knuckle driving got me stopped without doing any damage. But that hydraulic drive was tough. High low range. I sold it after I purchased a Kubota. Had I had room, I'd surely have kept it.

Never had any luck doing it this way. The key ways would destroy the bearings every time. I always had to heat up the pulley hub

I did not at any time during the video drive anywhere near hard enough to drive the key through not just the bearing, that is being thrown out, but also the washer that comes first. Now sometimes the washer does get a ding in it. But, a couple taps with a hammer on the little dings on a flat surface and it is good again. Doesn't the heating of the hubs destroy the bearings? I throw the bearings out as it is the whole point. The bearings are pre-lubed. So, I assume the heat melts the grease and the grease would then run out of the bearing. When you heat the hubs, does the pulley just fall up and off? I am just curious.

Hemlock Case Guy the only reason that I ever took them off was because the bearings were shot. But the sheaves were always seized to the shafts. I made a thin prying tool that fit under the sheave that would push up on the hub while I used an acetylene torch in a circular pattern on top of the hub. They come off pretty easy that way. I just sandblast and repaint them. It sure would have been nice if the Case engineers had put a grooved slot like a power steering pulley has for a removal tool on the top of the sheave. I’ve never worried about reusing the old bearings. I get new ones and remove the seal that faces the inside of the spindle housing and add grease zerks to the housings just like the Allis Chalmers / John Deere decks have. I pre fill the housing by hand with grease before assembly. Then a few hits with a grease gun every 20 hours or so and the bearings stay very happy.

Never saw a Case rear discharge deck. Would like to run across one of those.

Do you have to remove the blades before removing the pulley and spindle. I have a BushHog ATH900 and it is very similar to yours
