Walid Daqqa, a prominent Palestinian revolutionary organizer and thinker, and one of the longest-serving Palestinian political prisoners, died in an Israeli jail after spending 38 years imprisoned by the Israeli occupation. Diagnosed with cancer in 2022, Israel killed Daqqa through medical neglect, refusing to provide him with available medical treatment. Basil Farraj, Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies, Birzeit University, Palestine, delves into Daqqa's pivotal role in the prisoners' movement and sheds light on Israel's systematic medical neglect, torture, and blatant disregard for the rights of over 10,000 Palestinians held hostage in Israeli prisons.

Daqqah was convicted of commanding the PFLP affiliated group that abducted and killed the soldier not convicted of carrying out the killing himself. He has always denied commanding this group. ALSO, he was convicted in 1986 based on British emergency regulations dating back to 1945, which require a much lower standard of proof for conviction than Israeli criminal law.
