Last week, 19 students at Pomona College in Southern California were arrested by riot police and banned from campus after holding a pro-Palestine protest on their campus. Melia, one of the students arrested at the sit-in, joins the show to discuss Pomona Divest from Apartheid activism and the significant repression students face nationwide for leading the Palestine solidarity movement.

The student occupation was from the start against this school policies, but the school worked with students who were exercising their right to protest. Where is the line when that protest impedes on the rights of others? The school also required all individuals on campus to identify themselves upon request by campus administrators or Campus Safety. These individuals chose to remain masked. This isn't repression as you claim. It's consequences for bad student behavior.

Very fine interview and I wish Melia and the other Divestment activist students she was with well. The police should wake the f*ck up, gain some real, true education, get themselves a drink and some healthy snack foods, relax and learn to enjoy activists who are of good conduct and conscience. That could really help for gaining real, healthy education.

This is a connected student movement combating Israel’s genocide and occupation of Palestine. The same structures of domination and violence that we are being subjected to as students at Pomona College in California to silence us are the very same structures that are violently oppressing Palestinian people every day to keep them under occupation for 57 years. We view this global Palestinian liberation movement as an extremely interconnected fight and we are thankful for the bravery and leadership of the students and the Palestinian Boycott Divestment Sanction movement throughout our country and around the world For showing us what it means to stand up and demand material change for our institutions. We have power to ask for justice for Palestine of our institutions because without students, there would be no school.
