The Australien micro brand Ocean to Orbit has presented its first watch: The Lhotse follows the path of iconic field watches like the Rolex Explorer. The result is a handsome watch with tough specs, Swiss made but with a moderate price tag under 900 Euros or 900 USD. I really like this watch and I quite like the Ocean to Orbit name. It says a lot, literally but also of their intentions. I do hope they do a "Space-Dweller" version of it, like the VERY rare and VERY obscure Rolex 1016 Explorer.

The design of this watch I find very cohesive. These guys definitely know beautiful aesthetics. I especially like the blue one with the red tip on the seconds hand.

Explorer always has been available in 36mm. Which is actually the _maximum_ I can pull off. As someone who personally prefers 34/35mm cases and 40 to 42mm lug-to-lug, it always annoys me a little when channels talk about Rolex alternatives that are always bigger than the original.

yes, very reminiscence to the style of the great 30s European jazz guitarist "Djanjo" Jean Reinhardt. i love Caseback Watches rendition as well, sort of sets him apart from the other watch enthusiasts。 ps: deeper blue ie deep navy blue approaching black, for me. also 35mm and can't get over not having the ubiquitous 369 dial.

Cost-cutting is definitely evident on the bracelet. At this point, no microbrand should be offering anything but on-the-fly adjustment clasps.

Just wanted to let you know that we are working on updating the bracelet and the clasp will be a milled version that is quite compact. We will also be offering an on-the-fly adjustment when it is ready for production, but this will come a little later.

It doesn't stand out which can be good but here it's bad. I would say it's boring more than anything. Who cares about it being Swiss made or that it's been taken on a hiking expedition, it's still a boring looking watch.

Nice watch, but I think the CW sea lander in both 36 and 39mm (150metres WR) has more to offer and at much the same price. Also, CW is more established. So nothing that really stands out for me.

I also have a Sealander 39 and would love the 36, but was not available when I bought mine. The Sealander, for me, just seems to outshine this Ocean To Orbit in all respects. Quality of finish, nicer case back, better WR etc. These guys would need to up their game, if they want to be serious contender. Just my thoughts and in the end it is personal choice. Have a great day.

@@jamesgreig8796 I will make a call on that when I have my Sealander 39mm next to my Lhotse. It seems like they are still making improvements to the bracelet and clasp prior to shipping. The CW lightcatcher case is certainly hard to beat!

I like the brand name. I mean, why not? There's already watch brands out there that are 3 words long. It's just that we're used to those other two words being "and Co." My problem is more with the watch itself. The lug to lug is just a tad too long. And the bracelet does nothing to compliment the watch. It's just meh. That's a shame. I prefer watch designs that take a more holistic perspective and consider the bracelet as equally important as the watch. It doesn't have to be an integrated bracelet (prefer it not to be), but that the bracelet is considered to be the watches "clothes" or suit so to speak. This watches "suit" says Mens Warehouse.

I love the watch, but I hate the name LHOTSE and that it is so prominent on the dial. Not sexy at all. Imagine when someone asks you what model that is and you respond LHOTSE and they say LOHTSE WHAT? Or they could have left the name off the dial and put LHOTSE somewhere on the case back. But they could have called it Mountaineer or so. 😉
@thegorn
@thegorn 9 күн бұрын
"Lhotse" (pronounced "Lot-say") is a highly respected mount in the Himalayas and the world's 4th highest peak. I think it's a fine name for a watch model. The size of the text of "LHOTSE" visually balances the weight of the logo and brand and the words "AUTOMATIC" above the pinion.
@j.vanguard4654
@j.vanguard4654 9 күн бұрын
@@thegorn This is clear, but if you ask 100 people, I bet less than 5 would even know this. Look at how Rolex names its watches. Can you imagine a Submariner or an Explorer named LHOTSE? I am sorry, but I can't. It is just not a great name for a watch. It is like the fourth man on the Moon. It doesn't really matter.

@DavidDewitt-hc7cs 16 күн бұрын
As one of the founders I would like to understand why it is atrocious? It would be good if you could explain since it is simply words that describe the why of the brand “built for use from ocean to orbit”
@danisheverblue
@danisheverblue 16 күн бұрын
I may not use that word atrocious, but tend more to agree with them As in when you see the dial and the name doesnt make you feel right about it. It does look and for me feel weird. Since your the founder i would suggest take cristopher ward as an example. They had similar issues with their branding and they changed the logo and positionof the name compared to their earlier pieces and that has definitely helped them in the positive side. If they released todays collection with their old branding it wouldn't be doing so well as today.@DavidDewitt-hc7cs

@@DavidDewitt-hc7cs The name suggests a lot for a three handed watch with no distinguishing features that enable it to go from 'Ocean to orbit' (aside from the name saying it). Piggy backing off the Rolex Explorers marketing, basically using the same messaging, makes this feel even less interesting.
