• Closing thoughts:
o On wrist - Perfect Goldilocks sizing, giving awesome Aqua Terra meets Oyster perpetual vibes
o Model Variants - 4 standard colorways available at launch plus a 50pc limited edition
o Comparable models - The Lhotse fits right in with some of the similarly themed top microbrand offerings from the likes of Traska, Clemence, Halios, or even Christopher Ward
o Bottom-line - While it does lack the convenience of a toolless micro-adjusting clasp, the design and execution still make it contender for a top option within the ultra-competitive GADA watch under $1000 segment

Great artists steal. This is a rare and fantastic example of a brand stealing the spirit of an icon, in this case the Rolex Datejust. Congrats to the designers who created this piece. The cherry on top IMO is the flat top bezel and the contrast with the top hat crystal. Superb! 👏👏👏

Your videos always make me appreciate a watch afterwards when I might initially go in thinking it may not be all that. This is actually pretty well done. I could see if I were in a market for such a watch, this would be pretty appealing. Btw, thanks for your service. Have a great weekend.

A lot to like here, but 3 deal breakers for me: those long flat lugs (wishes they curved down more); that long brand name across the top of the dial (I suspect like Christopher Ward, at some point these guys will use just only the logo not the name); and STP, no thanks and no soprods either. But a great first effort for sure!

lugs - I have a racing chronograph with that same C-style case shape and same lugs, and it's absolutely not an issue from a wearability standpoint. Aesthetically I like it too. Looks vintage. brand name - just looks big because most of the shots here fill the video frame with the dial and in real life it's not going to present anywhere near as big. The STP - it's an unknown for me. Here's hoping the STP 1-21 is much improved over the earlier 1-11. It is probably fine though. I'm just glad it's not Soprod.

Great video and always appreciate the low light transitions. Lots of this feels like a Traska. Think for me theres a bit too much on the dial. Not sure on the T which has the name and depth on. Do wish Automatic was just removed from a lot of watches. Brand and logo at top, name of model at the bottom would be sweet

Seems like the brand name is a twist on the outdoor brand called "Sea to Summit", which makes outdoor gear and was started by legendary adventurer and mountaineer - Tim MaCartney Snape. Hopefully the STP 1-21 fixes the issues in the earlier STP 1-11. Would prefer an Sellita SW200-1b no-date auto, but hopefully the STP is OK. Do you know if the improved AR is going to be a clear AR, or a blue AR? I really don't like the blue AR cast like you get on Breitlings etc. That's a deal breaker for me if it's not clear AR. Also I want AR on the underside only. IS the AR just on the inside? Thanks Average Bro. Edit: Website says "internal colorless AR coating." - nice

Considering it's Swiss made and has a Swiss 4Hz movement instead of being Chinese made with SII/Seiko NH35A movement, I see the value in it for sure. Plus applied indices, applied logo, what looks like a proper embossed crown instead of cheap etching, screw links, properly sculped solid end links... it's pretty compelling I think. Thankfully I'm in Australia, so won't get slugged with import duties. I would like toolless microadjust but can live with the holes on a light gada watch.

Promising brand. Especially if they really start releasing "ocean" and "orbit" style watches. This watch at $800 is too expensive for the few features it has in a crowded field full of heavy hitters. At full price of $895 it is a hard pass. Thanks for the video, Mark!

Are you sure it's a true no-date movement? I looked up the instructions for the ST1-21 entitled "STP1-21_Technical_Package_complete_20240206.pdf" and it says the movement has "3 positions: 1)Manual winding, 2) Quick correction of date, 3) Time setting". Very odd. Also is it bidirectional or unidirectional and if uni - is it a noisy rotor?

I like the watch, not sure about the name though, it seems like an aftethought. It reminds me of the VPC full name that is hard to pronounce. Anyway, maybe it's not too late to change the name, after all, Reise eventually became RZE. I also would like to see quick release triggers for the bracelet, tool less microadjust, surface hardening and maybe an updated SW300 with twin barrels and 56 hrs of PR.

Feel like the price is *slightly* high for this. I realize the "swiss made" likes to carry more weight than it should, but nothing else on this watch screams "$800" to me. This same piece with a comparable Japanese movement would be $600. Especially with no quick adjust, which is becoming a much more common feature in the microbrand market.

Seems like if they were enthusiasts as you say, they would have informed you on how to pronounce the model name. Sending it up “lowtsay” on a Sherpa seems like an entrepreneur move, right? Nothing wrong with that, but I wonder how much ribbing his Sherpa bros gave him taking an unnecessary item up such a dangerous ascent. Definitely a better model name than a mountain that had the worst air accident in a countries history, and Everest has already been taken. We all get to have our own opinion though.

I read your comment this morning and wanted to share with you some interesting things that we learnt from interviewing Purnima. She wore our watch for 2 and a half months and climbed two mountains. For us this was really about creating a story for the watch mostly because we love genuine design and in a world where that is hard to find we felt this was important, but we got so much more than we expected. Above 5000m batteries don’t last, so to conserve battery life they will power up the satellite phone to check the time on the final ascent. This is became of how much oxygen each climber carries. When her team knew that she had a watch she became the go to person for time keeping. You can read the entire interview on our website. Her story is is actually pretty incredible and we feel very privileged to be a small part of it.
@thegorn
@thegorn Ай бұрын
@@DavidDewitt-hc7cs That's a wonderful story. Much better than Rolex, where Sir Edmund Hillary only carried the Smiths to the summit of Everest but Hans Wilsdorf made out like he did. Wilsdorf also shoved a datejust around the neck of Miss Mercedes Gleitze and got her to swim the English channel. Having that darn oyster around her neck was probably why she never finished that second crossing (but did complete the first swim sans Rolex), but Rolex won't tell you the full story about that either. Both of those marketing efforts by Rolex are repugnant, whereas your colab is both authentic and successful, given that Purnima summited and also wore the watch for 2 and a half months - she obviously appreciated it.

@@DavidDewitt-hc7cs I appreciate your reply very much and since I consider myself an enthusiast and since you are also clearly an enthusiast, I feel I owe it to you, and want to make sure I explain my response. First as a husband to an incredible wife, and a father of daughters, I want to make sure I sincerely apologize to Purnima, as in my haste it appears that I assumed she was male, a huge mistake on my part, and I wish I had taken more time to write my response more accurately. As a former mountaineer who has met my hero Reinhold Meissner, and have over 50 summits on major mountains, with mostly ski descents, she has my utmost respect and admiration, especially since she has submitted a mountain I will never be able to. My reply was mostly driven by my own initial feelings towards the reviewer who I don’t know, but I had made my own assumption from past reviews that I agreed with very much, that we would have similar takes on all watches, which is silly of me. I want to clarify that I do really like your design, and that my issue was more with how the reviewer went about his review. I do have huge respect for you and your partner for taking on such an endeavor, and only hope full success for you as if you also had submitted Everest itself. I still have a Sherpa friend that I am in touch with and love any chance I get to spend time with him, as he is always ribbing me for something and I adore his friendship. Very cool that your watch became an essential tool for the climbers and sherpas, and again I apologize for my quick judgment based on my mountaineering experience that was decades ago. It would be so cool to see her and the actual watch she wore for an incredible advertisement. I wish you, your partner, and your new watch huge success.
