would be better to see the reference image you are painting from. but was really helpful, i find neoclassical and photo/hyperealist techniques can inform much types of painting. I paint abstractly but of figures and try to be informed with all the tools available to use to my advantage.

i'm confused why would you use acrylic spray paint over a lead primed surface- thats a big no no

Wow, it would never have occurred to me to use spray paint like you did. Does it help to keep the darks from going chalky? I have a horrible, persistent problem with my darks, especially if they've been altered or painted over at all, going flat and chalky. And no amount of retouch in the world will help! Does putting that dark base under there avoid that problem? Lovely painting, fun to watch it come together!

londerosa keep them pure....a single dab of light color or white, even dirty solvent -especially from white (or water for acrylics) & thats it....They sometimes fool us into thinking we have squeaked by until they dry. Then its chalky darks. Use one brush only for any pure color & other brushes for the lights. When i use acrylic, I not only have the separate brushes but I also have a separate water for the whites/lights & darks. It could also b a drying illusion. In that case oiling over oil paints or a clear over acrylics will bring the deep darks back. Best of luck!
