This was without a doubt the scariest and sketchiest recovery I've ever done, so I enlisted the help of my friend Jason with the Primal Outdoors KZfaq channel that you can check out at / primaloutdoors . This is an area that basically right in our backyard and is a beautiful view of the canyon, river, and reservoir. But unfortunately someone thought it would be fun to jump a riding lawnmower off the cliff and down into the canyon. We wanted that eyesore out of there before it attracted even more garbage to be dumped over the edge, so I built a homemade gin pole gantry crane like is used in the oil fields and drill rig sites, then spliced together a couple of ‪@YankumRopes‬ to have enough reach with my ‪@harborfreight‬ Badlands winch. The job went perfectly and we got not only the mower, but some tires, and a bunch of small trash cleaned up as well.
Be sure to check out the upcoming PLS Bend public lands cleanup on July 11th right after the Overland Expo weekend to join Jason and I to clean up even more public lands!

Couple of things…1. The drone shots made this an impressive junk recovery video, shows the shear scale you were working against, 2. Mighty impressive driving abilities to park the trailer against the wheel chocks every time you had to move it around, 3. Being great stewards of the land is something most take for granted and others just blatantly ignore. Moral of the story … impressive group of guys!!

Good stuff.. Great idea of how to set up the gin pole with the added safety length of the trailer. As a Geocacher we have a thing called a CITO which means Cache In Trash Out by where we go to an area and all do an hour of walking the area picking up anything and putting it back at a central area for the local council to come and collect (sometimes the council provides skip bins for us to put all the stuff into on the day). It is good to give back to the environment and if people would stop throwing the trash on public land and take it to the recycling places or just offer it for free to someone else then we would all be in a better place.

Especially the application of the fulcrum of the lower snatch block . And yes before I get a hater comment saying that it's only a 300 pounds of weight yes it is only a 300 pounds And not that much force on it . It's not this lifting application it would be potentially the next when they try to pick up something even heavier.
@CaseyLaDelle
@CaseyLaDelle 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if this was any sort of regular use thing I would very much prefer a pintle hitch, and even thought of spinning it upside down for a heavier lift. But I test lifted the front of my Jeep with zero issues and only built the setup for this one project, so I left the hitch as is

Beautiful scenery and as much as I would love to have been there to enjoy in person, you would never have gotten me that close to the edge. Good of You, Jason and David to get rid of stupid peoples garbage.

Great job guys, needs to be more of you types! Question: Why not swedish seat / Climbing harness rappel using the winch, bring him up and down on the gin pole?

Thank you. Why in the world would anyone want to do something like this is just crazy. Again I want to thank you for cleaning this mess up. Only wish there was a way to find out who did it and make them pay.

@@lightman489 had they planned better, 3/8" steel cable (a couple of 100' spouls installed on the trailer wrinch) would have been used instead of the rope! 🤔😎

You should have bought a bosuns chair with you Casey, then you could have lifted Jason up the cliff as well. Saved him the walk. Also a cage of some sort for lifting rubbish up in bulk-ish loads. Remember that roof rack off the jeep? That would have done the job just nicely. great job all of you.

Excellent! As someone living with local public areas being shut down one after another due to trash and junk being dumped, I really appreciate what you guys did. I was wondering where this was. We have a place in Redmond and I am planning to do some camping this year when we come up. That dam looks like a really good place and if I cant camp there, then the cliff you were on would be nearly as good. Keep up the work. Loving the videos! I will gladly come along to lend a hand this summer when I get there!
