Yooo the shoe industry is wild, almost as cray as the sports card industry I used to be in lol. Everyone fighting one another to make a couple bucks. I have found that I personally hate being in a biz that relies on unregulated “comps” to justify the “value” of my goods. Example 1: All it takes is one person who is in desperate need of money and decides to do a fire sale on their goods and all of a sudden your goods lose value too because of that “comp” and the ensuing sales based on that comp. Example 2: Goods are sold on a certain platform with x amount of fees, taxes, and shipping which are added to the sell price and sets the true cost that someone is willing to pay, but when you go to events in person the buyers/sellers based their offer off a comp from the sale price only and will use it against you and/or to their advantage whenever possible rather than assessing the true sale price (all-in). Example 3: Especially with used goods, there are varying conditions from item to item and the comp doesn’t reflect that. A comp is just a comp set in stone that is used for comparison without taking actual conditions of the goods into account. Okay, I could go on and on, but I’m bored, you get the point, that concludes my Ted talk 😂 lol Remember to collect for the right reason (collect what you love) and don’t forget to take all these things I mentioned into account when negotiating!
