Vegas was literally meant to be a tourist trap. Not a place to raise a family.

Born in Vegas and still living here. The strip doesn’t care one tiny bit about the locals and haven’t for years now. I used to go to all the restaurants on the strip and go to shows, these days I avoid the strip like a plague.

This is happening in every major city.

Vegas is meant to always be changing. Its never going to be a city with a rooted culture outside of the hospitality and service industry.

Ofc the locals feel like they’re forgotten about. It’s all about everyone else coming to Vegas but not the people who are born here and live here on the daily. Now everything is about price gouging tf out of everyone.

This is happening everywhere. It's not just Vegas. This one of the many downsides of social media. People post about places and then its seems world flocks there. Try living in a beach community. There is NO off-season anymore. People came to visit and never leave. Small remote towns? People move there and work remotely (and drive up all the prices). It's the future unfortunately.

I had a Lyft driver who was born here tell me that he wished people would stop moving to Las Vegas because we are causing everything to go up in price. He lamented that people who are locals can't afford to live here anymore.

Moved to Vegas in ‘91 and it’s night and day difference. Locals have been left out in the proverbial cold. And I’m so phenomenally disappointed about what Hard Rock is going to do to the Mirage as well. One of the last properties on the Strip with REAL character, doomed to become just another soulless glass/lights/concrete getup.

I was born in 1970 in Vegas and lived my whole life here. Living in Vegas sucks now. Over-crowded, people crawling on top of people everywhere, ridiculously expensive in every way. Sure it's evolved and become more sophisticated and that's great, but no one gives a s**t about the longtime locals who helped build this place have called it home for decades. Vegas has become a place that you need to make a 100k per year minimum to live decently. It was not like that most of my life here. It was always booming and was a mecca for small business owners but after the pandemic when housing prices skyrocketed and half of California moved here that was truly the end for Vegas as I knew it in so many ways. There are really only traces of it left. However, I still have a lot of memories of great times when this place was much smaller and friendlier from local businesses to the casinos and everything in between.

I remember during the recession 2007 onwards, the casinos were courting locals. There were huge buffet discounts if you’re local. I felt sooo important. My family would eat there twice a week. It was so nice to show off your local ID! One day they don’t accept local IDs for discount. 😢 worse after the pandemic all buffets disappeared! For 15 years my family staycationed at the Mandalay at least once a year. We loved the buffet. One Beer at the gift shop costs $7.00 two years ago. I’d buy me at least ten and roam around the casino. Next year 2023, it doubled! This year we book at the Mandalay. Maybe beer tripled? So bye bye Strip. The investors don’t care about locals. Seriously We feel disrespected. they courted the locals during the recession. Now they don’t care. Look at the F1, so many small businesses affected, us locals suffered going to work. Nobody cared. This Clark County Commission confronted with cash strapped investors just keep on approving stuff regardless of the locals feelings. Truly they don’t care about us. watch out. When the next recession hits we know better.

San Diego used to be one of the cheapest cities in California. The past 10 years it has become very impersonal and expensive

The reason I don't go on the strip I have everything near me in Henderson and don't need to rub shoulders with visitors who do things they wouldn't do in their home town

I dont even live in Vegas anymore and understand exactly what everyone is saying. It seems like the government only cares about turning vegas into little compton, making the strip a million times bigger and mire expensive and yes charging us for parking. If you are a las Vegas native you shouldn’t have to pay for parking on the strip.

The LOCALS CANNOT EVEN GO TO THE STRIPS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PAY THE VERY HIGH FEE FOR PARKING. FIFTY DOLLARS ON SUNDAYS

Driving is in Las Vegas is terrible, and everyone drives so fast and crazy now. Vegas has become what we all left to come here in the first place.

So, if you're locals, then you should know that the Vegas Strip changes all the time, right? In about 3 years, there's going to be a giant guitar building on the Strip. A few years ago, there was not a giant sphere there. Now, it's part of the Strip. 😅

Maybe it’s because I am retired, but as a local, I truly appreciate the casinos that cater to me: South Point, Silverton and Orleans (in that order). Free parking, good restaurants and movie theaters, I like to bowl, and all of the restaurants are very good with reasonably priced food. What more did you ask for? I am not a big gambler and don’t earn a lot of comps, but Silverton drew me in with a promotion and I like their 24 hour café.

Locals feel forgotten? Man you were never even remembered in the first place 😂

All the people moving there and all that new construction will be for naught in a few years when the city runs out of water and the high temperatures renders it uninhabitable.

How terribly the locals are neglected … disproportionate and high property taxes, high cost of utilities, dangerous drivers in Las Vegas street, criminals in every valley neighborhoods, fuel @ $4.75 per gallon, grocery pricing beyond reach, limited choice of recreational facilities, safety in UNLV and CCSD schools, short of integrity in public offices, unbelievable 75 cents minimum wage hike

I lived in Las Vegas for over 55 years and I had to get away because it has just gotten to big. I'm still close enough to see my doctors but far enough to forget the crap that is Las Vegas today.

Bottom of the list in healthcare, education, and unemployment rate. Yep, our city, county, and state government officials could give a crap about us.

When I moved to Las Vegas in 2007 they still cared about and took care of the locals. We had deals made available to everyone daily. Then when they decided we're going to start charging locals for parking and deals don't exist that's when the spiral begin. The locals have waited too long to vocalize this! I left because no amount of money could make me stay in a city that no longer cares about its locals and it shows! I left during the Pandemic.

I visit family living in Las Vegas for almost 25 years and never go to the Strip. My thing now is seeking out different restaurants outside of the Strip and Downtown. You would be amazed what’s out there. And, the Mexican food is really good. My favorite is the Spring Valley/Chinatown District to eat. So much better than the Strip. And, much cheaper.

That’s a clear sign to move out of Vegas if they feel they’re being forgotten.

I use to go to Vegas 4 or 5 times a year, the last time l visited Vegas it was the 1st time l was not looking forward in coming back and its been a year and no real desire to go any time soon saddens me ...

Locals aways crying about discounts because live here. They are the type that go to local bar for watch a party. Because they never buy tickets to support there team.

Its the same in every city, every country. Exponential growth in population, development, and desertification. Humans eating up the environment like locus.

We lived in Henderson for 15 years. Our kids were born there. We had a good life. Cost of living was low. We loved Town Square. What’s that like now? We usually went to the Strip for restaurants, shows and the Bellagio garden. The hotels need to let locals park for free. Many stopped going because of that. We’d spend 10x on restaurants for a family of four over parking fees. For us things went downhill after Covid, then we moved out of the state.

Las Vegas from like 1955-1981-ish was golden era. Corporations starting taking everything over in the 1990s. Fast forward to the 2020s and Vegas has now become something totally different than what it used to be. There is no more of that classic spirit that it used to have. Las Vegas is like over corporatized now. Unnecessary resort fees Parking fees More rules in general that basically restrict your ability to have fun Gambling is even more rigged than ever Vegas sucks now

I was born here in 1955. My parents moved here after WW2, the stories I could tell . I remember when Ch 8 had the Cinderella Show. Every day she would put on her magic glasses and see all the kids watching...except me. Lol! I was also Mr Green's newspaper girl for a few years. I agree, it is getting too big . I don't mind that so much, until I see the gangs moving here or the many people who have no respect for my town, then I resent it. I do miss being able to go grocery shopping 24/7. As for the hotels, and their bleeding every last penny from their customers, I blame these corporations who purchase a hotel and run it with a lack of understanding of what made Las Vegas unique. The idea that they have the 'bells' to charge their own customers to park, is insanity. The disgusting way they have hidden fees tacked on to the advertised price for a hotel room, is another way corporations have hurt our image. In the past, people of all walks of life could come here and expect to be treated like they mattered. Even something as simple as being given free drinks whilst you played the slots was part of our charm. People loved getting free tickets to the buffet or to the shows. Those simple actions on our part would bring that person back, time and time again. Corporate greed will kill us. Why? There are too many other gambling cities now. We give people very little reason to return. More than the rapid growth of my town, I am unhappy with the treatment we are extending to our lifeblood. What's next? Will they charge you to sit in a restaurant, to walk through a casino, or to breathe inside a hotel? We need our flamboyant charaters to step up and get this city out of the corporate hands before they do more damage.

I’ve lived here for 4 years, but have visited for 45 years. I enjoy the UPSCALE direction the Strip is headed (more fine dining and high end shopping, less $5 t-shirts and junky souvenir shops……and the people that frequent those places). But I do realize 99% of the locals I’ve met don’t want to SPEND ANY MONEY!! So it’s the TYPE of person who lives here is WHY they don’t like the Strip. They want cheap, cheap, cheap! …..the girl in the video would valet her trashy Chevy?! I guarantee she’ll want a steak at Outback Steakhouse……NOT Ocean Prime. (enough said). 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔👎🏻

I’m a tourist like everyone else and I completely understand the pain of the locals. I don’t know what the ‘Local’s Night’ consisted of, but if they’ve deteriorated over the last several years, than it’s time to improve them by bringing them back level they were at, maybe even better than before.

The whole Country is changing it changes each generation.

Those of us from Phoenix Arizona know how you feel. They have taken over our city with new move ins from other states and they are growing water parks etc. our cost of living has gone up, the streets are more packed and the newbies bring their bad habits and don’t want to respect us.

I've had a few locals tell me they'll visit the Strip on Mon/Tues/Weds, but thats it. No one ever said the other days unless they had visitors in town.

I moved to Las Vegas in 1992 and use to enjoy hanging out on the strip in many of the old classic hotel/casinos. But after about a decade + later, it just wasn’t the same vibe that I once enjoyed before. The old hotels were torn down. The casino lounge acts that we use to go listen to were changing to please the younger generation or completely disappearing all together. I can go on and on… I love Las Vegas. But going to strip or even downtown these days doesn’t happen very much.

thousands of homeless people defecating in front of children and occupying every single local park, super inflation, high crime, no public transportation,, horrible weather, drug addiction, prostitution and abuse... I can name a lot more things that in my opinion are more important than local discounts for buffets or free parking.

We’re ranked #50 in the nation as it pertains to schools. That alone tells you that this place has moved on from its locals. All of the deep pockets business owners live elsewhere. They just set up shop and return home to collect their money. We can’t even get decent roadways here. Blame the decision makers for what they have turned this place into.

Unfortunately Las Vegas was built to entertainment Adults and raise on tourism income, we were fine until outsiders came to live here telling to realtors how cheap own and rent was in Las Vegas, then paying for food was also cheap for them and then gas and then pandemic excuses everything went up except our Las Vegas minimum wage, Las Vegas can’t afford what outsiders can paid because their outside salaries or retirement income can afford.

My family used to live in Las Vegas from 1974 when my grandfather moved there with my grandmother, aunt and dad because my grandfather was in the United States Air Force and got sent to Nellis Air Force Base and when he retired from the US Military, after 28 years of service, a year later my grandfather decided that he wanted to stay there so he and my grandmother brought a house in an area which was pretty much the edge of town about a mile or so east of what is now Charleston and Buffalo. My stayed in the Las Vegas Area until my dad and I moved in 2012. So I can say is that people were complaining about many of these problems in the mid 1970s and continued to do so until we left. This is nothing new nor was the explosive growth of the Las Vegas Area and Clark County. The Las Vegas Area and Clark County saw massive population growth from the time my family first moved to Las Vegas in 1974, and this would continue with massively explosive growth with just a couple of short slowdowns in the early 1980s, and early 1990s, until the Great Recession in the late 2000s. That was the slowest period of growth since at least my grandfather first got stationed in the Las Vegas Area in 1974. The late 2000s a very odd time to be living in Las Vegas because not only wasn’t the Strip and Downtown not doing well but the numbers of housing being built and people moving here really slowed down and the are would not start to recover until the early 2010s. So many of the issues in this video are nothing new.

Plus, Vegas has gotten to expensive, just got back from a visit and I was really surprised.

I love Vegas. It would be so much more fun if it was more affordable. It's not fair how locals are forgotten, or if you become a local, how fast you're thrown in the back.

I visited Vegas a few times in my life, and the locals are not very fond of tourist. I remember one lady telling off one of my friends for not having a cigarette for her when she asked him I can’t really blame the locals on this one. They deal with out of towners every single day and the out-of-towners act like they’re better than them so I could see where they’re coming from

I had to move away from Vegas in 2015. I miss those days a lot. But so many of the things I loved have disappeared. The golf course I used to play, which surrounded my apartment complex, was closed down. And the apartment complex was sold to new management which drove it into the ground with awful changes. The locals discounts and deals dried up and so did Lake Mead. Makes me sad but I guess I was forced to move just in time.

Las Vegas is an animap of its own. I lived there for a few years back in 2015. I used to drive my cousin to the strip every night for work. I won't ever forget trying to get to the public libary on foot was literally impossible. The public bus system is extremely expensive and poorely routed.

My parents woukd vacation in Las Vegas. As they were driving back home to California in 1967 my Father said to my Mother, "Just you wait and see. This whole desert road is going to be lined up with hotels and casinos." My Mother said to him, "You are crazy that will never happen." Well my Father turned out not to be crazy.

I have lived in Vegas for 36 years and love it. To this date, I have stayed away from the casino life.

It changes as the economy changes, and people remember it when they personally had a good time. Downtown was for locals and the strip for visotors. Just think about the changes in economy and what some strip casino tried to do..Around the 80s brought the 'family friendly' themes, and the early 2010s tried to get anyone to visit even locals.

Good Stuff Ozzy. I love, love, LOVE Vegas. Hotels do need to make accommodations more locals-friendly like it used to be. When I moved here in 2010, what a time. It was like being in a movie every day. Of course I was younger (still young!!) & clubbing damn near every day. Moved out here with a convertible Vette & a chunk of money. The Las Vegas Weekly used to have a calendar at the back of their magazine (and online) that showed all of the events that locals could get into for free. Marquee on Mondays, Tao on Tuesdays. Encore Beach. On & on. Comedy shows. Concerts. Watch parties. Lagasse's Stadium was crackin'. All of the various pools. Somebody show locals love like that again & let us know where the hook-ups are.

Not to mention transportation sucks. Being bus, taxi, car,etc . They need to expand the monrail.

People have to realize one thing and one thing only...Vegas was always meant to be a "cash cow" it was created to generate money point blank period. It's called "sin city" for a reason but even that title no longer exists way too many "stroller parents" going up and down the strip. I too miss the old 9.99 stake dinner days but Vegas is in a constant momentum of change, nothing on it is really meant to last. It's always on to the next money generating thing. As much as i love the city I can't find myself living there today...nowadays it's just go to the city make as much money as you can from the "outsiders" and get out, live your life somewhere cheap and fun, for me my new Vegas now is Dade County, but that's just me.

It's important to remember the locals as Vegas continues to expand. Their experiences and challenges need more attention.

I have a family member living in Vegas and visit the town often. My impression is that the city does not focus on education because it always needs thousands of low-skilled people to fill low-paying casino jobs on and off the strip.

Grow up! People in other parts of the world have been feeling like this for decades because all the tourist town cater to American tourists, so they avoid those places…. In recent years, more Americans are moving in, not just visiting anymore, pricing out the locals. Cry harder!

All I've heard is that Vegas locals love expansion. Kept crowing about that's how Vegas is and been for decades. Now Vegas has turned into a massive Disneyland with rides coming to downtown

Las Vegas is not about the people who live here but for the tourists and the resorts that cater to them. That is why we don't have nice things here.

the growth of the suburban sprawl to the point where 1970s era neighorhoods are called historic west side because they are as inner city as 1890s neighborhoods are in east coast cities. a place that would still be pretty close to the edge of suburban sprawl in most other cities is considered close to downtown

The last straw for me was a few months they picked up a guy that was dining on a dead guy's face on the sidewalk, his desert was one of the eyeballs. Taking the family out of here to a safer city if there is one anymore.

I visited Las Vegas last year, and there was so much construction inside the valley but outside the valley there is nothing, literally😳

I've been visiting Vegas since the early 80's and I cannot believe the amount of homeless people these days, and just general derelicts, bums hanging around at gas stations, everywhere. I've also never seen so many items locked up at Smith's. I also noticed a distinct increase in the amount of a certain "folk" many of whom were homeless, wandering around, laying around...ugh. Felt unsafe.

Vegas is my 2nd home. Always go there at least 5 times a year. Cali resident. Been doing this since i was 21. The strip is meant for tourists. And the local spot out of the strip are better anyway. Durango casino is awesome. Even palace stations. If have friends that live there, and i actually prefer the local spots outside the strip cause it's less traffic and all the stores and places off of the strip are pretty new and clean. Just don't go to downtown area. lol.

That’s how EVERY corporate works. Once the business is booming, they don’t give a shit about the local or ANY discounts. Simply because they know the money is gonna come either way. Sad but true.

Can't have it both ways. Though Vegas could make the place better by limiting gambling licenses to Las Vegas Blvd, Fremont St, and Boulder Highway. Gambling doesn't need to be EVERYWHERE.

They killed it a long time ago, The stardust and the mirage they keep getting rid of classic places locals enjoy and replacing them with resorts world and hardrock and those are not casinos which locals will have fun. There just overpriced bland metropolis jungles. No buffets, no real entertainment, no real limos. Hell they don’t even want you to be able to drive to the strip anymore.

Types of elites who took over the casinos after the mob were terrible (MGM Resorts Jim Murren). Lack of construction caused home price hikes.

Even my passengers noticed a huge difference when they come back. They come to visit family or stay in the hotels. When they’re going home, they’ll ask me if I ever go on the strip. I’ll say yeah, when I have to pass by to get to the 15.

Everyone (California, Hawaii, Idaho) has the same complaint Maybe grant more oil leases.

Take it from a Floridian who lives just outside of Tampa FL and travels to Vegas throughout the year because the company I work for is headquartered there. Get off the strip. Downtown LV is amazing, but not for living. Places like Henderson NV have reasonable pricing for homes/rentals and only a quick drive to the action.
