Seeing is believing when everyone’s favorite friendly ghost stars in this charming, live-action adventure from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. “Ghost therapist” Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman) and his daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci), have been hired by Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty) and her partner-in-slime, Dibs (Eric Idle), to get rid of the spirits at drafty, old Whipstaff Manor. Sure enough, the place is haunted by The Ghostly Trio - Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso - who don’t believe “fleshies” should come anywhere near their haunted domain. But Kat soon meets another, very different kind of spirit: Casper, a good-natured ghost who's just looking for a friend. Can they all learn to live with each other? With dazzling special effects and undeniable humor, it’s a family friendly adventure that’s ghostly fun for everyone!

Used to get teary eyed at the Kat and Casper dance, but now as a grown man, her dad's arc makes me bawl. I know this movie has a lot of goofy kid-centric gags and the villains are stock, but I do think there's something so melancholy about him dedicating his life to searching for her and finally getting that one minute of closure.

Same! I’ve watched this movie since I was at least 6-7 but only in recent years (late twenties now) did I bite and rewatch for nostalgia and man oh man, when this scene comes on after he gives up his chance at becoming human so her dad can instead, and the mom returns… I have to turn my face to stone to keep the tears from flowing lmaoo

As a kid, death was always something that hit me so hard, despite never losing anyone. Her mother coming back to talk to her dad was so sad to me. I would cry every time. As for Casper, I thought Devon Sawa was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. When he turns and you see him for the first time, it was a feeling 8 year old me had never felt 🤣

This scene used to always get to me as a kid. And the fact that death could take your loved ones away in the physical form was something I never could deal with. This my sister’s favorite movie as a kid. Unfortunately she passed away last November right before her birthday. I remember watching this movie so much with her and that song meant so much for me. The lyrics were powerful, she was truly my best friend in this life. I know you’re out there somewhere Ashley😢 & that hook especially will always make me think of you🌹❤️

@Jesse Ramirez exactly. That piano motif throughout the movie is a punch in the gut EVERY. TIME. I'm 33 now and grew up on this film, it wasn't until I was an adult that I learned to really appreciate the magic of this score and how death is dealt with. Amazing amazing movie

I don’t even have the words to describe how powerful this was for me back in the day.. This movie had such an impact on me as a kid since it was around that time I lost my older brother and my Dad.. and I still remember how this one scene, tho unbelievably sad, brought me so much peace and literally helped get me thru that time. It’s so incredibly moving that even now as a grown man, brings tears to my eyes every time I see it! I consider myself so blessed to have grown up in a time with such heartwarming and memorable films such as this one, and I would sincerely like to Thank all those responsible for making them!

Wow, this brought me back to a time I miss. Film now is just not the same. I know every generation says this but there is this magic in film that has been lost. It's the little moments like this scene and how subtle they were. The intimacy of these moments when we watched them back in the day before internet and social media. Not knowing what they ment to other people but just our own experiences made them special. Life and what it produced was way more subtle, more mysterious, more intriguing back then. Don't get me wrong it is awesome to connect with so many so easily but we definitely gained something at a sacrifice of something else...something that possibly was more important?
