Kept me safe as a young policeman serving in the fight in Ovamboland 1983 along the Angolan border. Always felt more protected when inside with the only real fear being an RPG7. Landmines were no longer feared when you were inside. Fantastic engineering that destroyed trees and bush in pursuit of our enemy. Never once let us down!

I was your next door neighbour at 101. I just learn from an insider that the ANC sold the ADE engine plant in Atlantis to Cuba, who has never paid a cent for it.

Yup we had 4 caspirs… based at the KG Hokke at Oshakati… we normally teamed up with RM teams or Koevoet as our crew were 90% ET’s so we would draw on their knowledge of caches or knowledge of Swapo routes in the bush. Sad day it was when they gave our caspirs to COMOPS eventually… our call signs were CN

....And then.... The Chief Engineer of Denel was head hunted by Thales Australia to develop the Bushmaster PMV. I had the great oppostunity to speak to one of the design Enginners of the Bushmaster in Bendigo Australia and said that the vehicle looked very much like the SADF Casspir. He told me that it was the same design in principle with a few changes. Troops face inward and a whole heap of bins were attached to the sides to soften the look of the vehicle. I work on these vehicles everyday.

casspir troops faced inwards too... seat were along both walls...biggest issue i found is the top of my R4 front sight would get hooked on the shooting flaps that opened outwards....

I'm not a mechanic (tiffy) but one of my oddest memories whilst bundu bashing north of Oom Wille se pad in Sector 10 was one day the front axle of one of our Caspirs - i guess cv's or steering column??? failed and we drove the caspir back to a Koevoet camp with two caspirs on either side and someone on the front bumpers having to kick the front tires to make it change direction. Took a WHILE but we made it home

Our Caspirs had a single MAG mounted on the co-driver/gunner side with two bicycle styled grips to rotate angle it and almost like a bike brake lever to fire the weapon... Koevoet went top gunners style with 50's, 30 Brownings sometimes mounted forward through the left front window... between the driver compartment and main troop compartment were the radio racks and bins with the open commanders hatch.. best spot to perch pre contact - and quick to drop inside if needed

@williamsmith8790 Жыл бұрын
@@LexlutherVII Let’s not get ridiculous. It’s not that technically advanced. South Africa had a different insurgency experience at that time. Necessity is the mother of invention. We didn’t fight an adversary that utilized IEDs as their primary offense until the 2000s. The SADF did it in the 80s. Due to South Africa being a political pariah their tactics were probably not something the average staff officer was willing to introduce in the 90s US Army.

When other countries start buying your armoured vehicles then you know they're good. Despite the SANDF being a shadow of what it was, it doesn't make our equipment any less impressive. @@BB-nw6cs Maybe you are right. I did not do any research. But my fieldwork on this topic is not too shabby. And having firsthand knowledge of an exploding triple cheese mine must count for something. Maybe I can even apply for frequent flyer miles in these great vehicles?
@maddog.mcewan Жыл бұрын
mmmm not so sure on that.... the buffel was not as safe against TM47's or 56's especially as the terrs use to sometimes lay a couple blocks of TNT underneath the mines to boost its effect... they got clever against the buffel as it was top heavy... so they would flip it on its side and lay their ambush to fire into the open top flipped side

Is because they are Africans. Sure they are whites, but western countries only see them as Third world countries. The same goes to Eastern Europeans. They are whites but they are in the same boat as Africans, Middle Eastern, Asians, South Americans. I'm a builder and people from Eastern Europeans aren't call by their names, but their countries names. Just to remember everybody that they are foreigners. UK left the EU, because more Eastern Europeans were coming into their country.

Problem is weight size and turning circles. Weight it cannot enter most parking lots and or shopping center areas, size the very same as it wont fit in the current cash depots and under roofs and on suspended decks etc, and off course the turning circle is the same as the two previous problems. To change all the depots and all the rest that goes with it is more than the money being robbed at the moment so its not really profitable . Ratels would also have been great, the same problems.
