A review and field test of the Casström Nr. 10 Forest Knife - a wonderful bushcraft knife for the outdoorsman who wants a high quality cutting tool. It comes with a very good ferro rod with matching handle and a beautiful leather sheath with a dangler option. This is my favourite bushcraft knife now and therefore I wanted to do a test and review, as this knife outperforms all other knives I have tried. I took it with me for an overnighter in the woods and got really fond of it.
The knife can be ordered directly from amzn.to/2lQixl0

I have had my Castrom Lars Falt knife in Sleipner steel with a curly birch handle delivered today and my first impression is what a beautifully made knife and razor sharp out of the box , will give it a gentle strop later , thank you Casstrom.

Takk for demonstrasjonen :) - Martin

Ja, det er en veldig hendig størrelse. Jeg synes også den er akkurat lett nok til at jeg kan ha den i beltet når jeg går med sekk. Veldig fornøyd med denne kniven!

Good review and the fist other one that talks about the handle first. It's probably more important for us guys with big hands. There's a rumor that both Casstrom and TBS outsource the production (or part of it) to Albaceta in Spain, home of the Joker knives. I recently discovered Joker knives but as one big hand guy to another I can sure recommend them. I've got several knives of the Joker brand right now and the handles are great (for people with big hands), great sheaths, great steels, perfect fit and finish and right now about half the price of Casstrom and TBS. I say for now because I totally expect the prices to go up in the near future or the other brands will have to bring their prices down. Cheers, Steve

I recently bought the caastrom lars falt knife and i have only good things to say caastrom. It is fantastic quality and value for money. IMO the best bushcraft equippment usually comes from scandinavia... for ex mora, light my fire, fallkniven, gransfors etc etc. I think in time caastrom will also become a classic brand.

I think so too. I must say I prefer the TBS Boar to the Casstrøm, but that is much because I think the Casstrøm handles doesn't really fit big hands. The quality of their steel is excellent.

The Knife looks excellent, but easily overlooked is quality and function of the sheath. I really like the sheath design looks strong and functional and the flint stick is well thought out. I bought a really nice antlered handled Damascus steal knife, which i love unfortunately they failed to see the importance of paring it with a nice functional sheath (o well). Looks like you found a good pairing. Thanks for the video.

I have always wanted one but been concerned the handle might be to slim. I have medium siezed hands but does not like small handles. Most knifes have no curve on the spine of the handle. This one has. Therefore I want one. Does the Fält knife have a larger handle? Is it as comfortable?

Say Heah Bjorn, Your Castro has a very similar handle to my S. O. G. Pillar Fix Blade. I really like the handle although my Pillar has a Micarta Handle and the blade has a S. O. G. Signature Camel Hump's that was very popular even in Vietnam by Special Forces and Tunnel Rat's, I have the Seal Pup Elite TiNi and the Trident 2.0. But my Pillar is one of my Fav's S. O. G. 's. I teamed it with my 2HAWKS Double Bit Hatchet and my Wicked Tough Saw and I use it in the bush even though some think it's too Tactical, But it's not. Keep up the good work.,,.p

Hi Bjorn, great review!.. I was considering getting the stainless steel versus of the No. 10 but wanted to get your idea on ease of sharpening after several years. I've read K720 Carbon is difficult but unsure on this one.
@kovona
@kovona 3 жыл бұрын
I bought a cheap $50 corundum whetstone set from Amazon that comes in 400/1000/3000/8000 grit to sharpen my K720 no.10 SFK. For sure it takes longer to sharpen compare to my old cheapo 440A folder, but not that much more. Finishing with 3000 grit, it's already razor sharp. A few passes with the 8000 grit and it's sharp enough to split hairs. They say a tool steel like K720 can be brittle, but I dropped my blade hard onto concrete once and it got maybe two tiny nicks from that ordeal. Definitely a good knife steel, and corrosion isn't too much of an issue once a patina builds up and you remember to oil it occasionally.

Hi Bjorn, what would you rate this knife from 1-10? Is their any need I getting a custom knife or will this suffice? I'm just looking for my first proper bushcraft knife and this looks almost like a custom knife at half the price

Nice review! Got that knife my self. Likable, but I am not 100% comfortable with the somewhat tilted handle shape. Much prefer the staright and rounded handle of one of my favorite scandinavian knives, the (semi-full tang) Helle Temagami. Also like the Enzo Trapper (95 and 115) and the Enzo Camper. Casstrom's new Woodsman seems interesting. Btw I purchased a couple of Casstroms danglers to use with other knives. Really like the clip on/off carabiner solution, which makes it easy to remove the sheath when needed with out having to open up or take off your belt.

Curius what you picked in the end or still deciding andy? 11month old comment.

Yes, this is my only concern. I prefer it had a longer blade even 1 cm more than this. Because if a knife is short it does not need to be full tang, it will never brake for sure. Like Mora. If it makes a longer version I will buy it for sure. Thank you for your wish. My Gods are Greek ones with Zeus on top, but I respect so much everything Scandinavian. Be well brother
